[Bug 90020] Kopete should not use a patched contact list by default

2007-03-05 Thread Tarek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdenetwork

Feisty's Kopete appears to have a modified contact list (
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FeistyFawn/Herd4/Kubuntu#head-
4d575b0b04e320f919b389b2187bcabfae0f122f ), which is done via Kopete
reloading kits (
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22kopete+reloading+kit%22 ). These kits
are patches on the source.

Unfortunately for me, I am running a high-resolution screen (1600x1200),
and the avatars are now unusably small.

In addition, the colour scheme of the contact list is not comprehensible
to me, and amounts to a low-contrast scheme that makes managing my
contact list even more difficult.

This problem cannot be easily rectified, since it requires another
patched version to be compiled.

My proposed solution is reversion to the stock KDE Kopete theme, or
otherwise permit the user choice in the various themes.

[Bug 90155] Keyboard applet does not work in gnome-panel

2007-03-06 Thread Tarek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Hey all,

I upgraded to Feisty yesterday, and updated this morning. When starting
a GNOME session, I get "The panel encountered a problem while loading
"OAFIID:GNOME_KeyboardApplet". If I do not delete the applet, every
subsequent entry into GNOME will result in no GNOME panel until I do a
"killall gnome-panel" a few minutes into the session. The applet does
not appear to co-exist peacefully with the panel.

[Bug 75398] Re: Regression: Fan does not come on due to ACPI problems

2007-03-06 Thread Tarek
I have this problem with 2.6.20-9-generic. My system is an HP NC4200.
Fans work normally before hibernate (suspend is broken due to another
bug), but the fan does not work after, and the system overheats.

I will try the package above and report back.

[Bug 53923] Re: Texas Instruments Card reader (8039) not working

2007-01-12 Thread Tarek
On my HP NC4200, I only need to modprobe tifm_sd to get a working SD/MMC
reader. Also, adding it to the /etc/modules means that I don't need to
do it every time.

Could somebody point to documentation about how to get this to be
detected properly so I could perhaps submit a patch?

[Bug 69868] Re: Contrast setting is bad

2007-01-12 Thread Tarek
Same problem, however it is also true for mplayer and Ogle. I'm actually
not sure how to set either of those, so if advised, I will go and test
settings in those out.

As for gxine, I'm happy with 20480 (I could only set it as 20506),
however I didn't find it useful to set that for brightness

One note is that the above fix breaks suspend for me. The following has
to be added to /etc/default/acpi-support to make it sleep and wake up
appropriately. Unfortunately, it still doesn't safely unmount on sleep.

Make sure this line is in /etc/default/acpi-support:

MODULES="tifm_sd sdhci mmc_core"

[Bug 892030] [NEW] Cannot find files in encrypted home folder

2011-11-18 Thread Tarek
Public bug reported:

Hi,

My home filesystem is encrypted since 9.10, but since I've upgraded from 11.04
to 11.10, I cannot locate my home files. I first noticed it with Dash, but in
the terminal, when I try to locate my Documentos folder (which corresponds to
the Documents folder in portuguese-brazilian) using:
sudo updatedb && sudo locate Documentos
or even using
sudo whereis Documentos
nothing is found.
In the global search it can only find programs and in the files search it
always displays my most recent files, no matter what I type in the search field.

I suspect it is caused by the encryption of my home folder due to the
errors I saw in my syslog.

[Bug 879858] [NEW] Kernel panic after grub-install on UEFI Asus 1215B

2011-10-22 Thread Tarek
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu: 11.10 oneiric
Package: grub-efi 1.99-12ubuntu5

While installing Ubuntu on my Asus 1215b using a Live USB, A kernel
panic was being issued and Ubuntu wouldn't boot. After trying to install
manually (issuing a grub-install command), the same problem occurred. My
partitions are as follow: a 100MB FAT32 efi partition on /dev/sda1, a
2GB swap on /dev/sda2, a 100GB ext4 partition for / (boot) and an ext4
partition for /home with what's left.

Steps to reproduce:

follow the guide here http://askubuntu.com/questions/53578/can-i
-install-in-uefi-mode-with-the-alternate-installer/57380#57380 and
execute grub-install using this command:

sudo grub-install --recheck --no-floppy --force

[Bug 1172821] [NEW] App Indicator not showing apps launched with Wine

2013-04-25 Thread Tarek
Public bug reported:

System: Intel® Core™ i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz × 4, 3,8 GiB RAM
OS: Ubuntu 13.04 64 bits
Unity: 7.0.0daily13.04.18~13.04-0ubuntu1
Wine: 1.4.1-0ubuntu5

Given that I launch an app with wine that has a systray icon
When that app opens
Then I should see the systray icon displayed in the App Indicator
But the icon is not displayed
And I can only see the icon when I open the Workspace switcher (Alt+s)
Or while switching workspaces (ctrl+alt+arrow)

Since Wine nor Unity crash, I couldn't find any log or useful debug info
on the problem.

It used to work in 12.10, so I think the problem is related to the
recent removal of system tray support
(http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2013/02/raring-retires-system-tray-
whitelist). Yet, as I understand, Wine apps are whitelisted. Maybe the
problem is that Unity is not recognizing the app as being launched by
Wine?

EDIT: tested with Pidgin to make sure the behaviour wasn't app specific.
The bug was reproduced.

[Bug 877445] Re: XCB errors in OpenGL applications caused by fglrx 11.8

2011-10-19 Thread tarek
Hi,
Ubunut 11.10 with Catalyst 11.8 and 11.9.
I have had the same crashes while playing with Imangination technologies
OpenGLES 2.0 SDK.
examining strace output i have seen that my applications call libGL.so from
/usr/lib32 open("/usr/lib32/libGL.so", O_RDONLY) which is a symlink to
mesa/libGL.so.1 and not /usr/lib32/fglrx/libGL.so.1 !!
An ln -s /usr/lib32/fglrx/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib32/libGL.so fixed the problem, It
worth a try. All my OpenGL applications are running perfectly right now :)

Good day.

[Bug 270203] Re: When connecting a portable player, RB should show its contents

I am currently using 0.11.6, and still experience this problem.

that no action is taken at all.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 254224 ***

I had everything in my computer works fine with respect to sound but
"sometimes" the Skype shows you me the "problem with audio playback"
message so I don't think it is related directly to the Sound Card.

I installed Ubuntu from the Skype site directly and in general it works.
I'm not an expert in Sound problems but it seems that the bug is a
duplicate for #254224, so I'll mark it as duplicate.

[Bug 234259] Re: Meld doesn't show differences in sequence

2008-05-27 Thread Ahmad Tarek
for:
meld ide-cd.c.new ide-cd.c
it gave me 5 steps only using arrows (it shows five changes)

for
meld ide-cd.c ide-cd.c.new
it gave me 15 change

Actually I was facing the same problem in Ubuntu 7.10 but I never faced
it on fedora 6!!!

I'll try to do more checks and I'll tell you.

Thanks for your care.

[Bug 267318] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 doesnt boot in virtualbox

2008-09-07 Thread Ahmad Tarek
I tried it in both Virtual Box 2.0 and an older version 1.6.X (I can't
remember the third number) and it didn't work. The crash is attached to
the bug report.

I tried Intrepid Alpha 5.

[Bug 148784] Re: [gutsy] virtualbox-ose should handle errors caused by lack of USB support gracefully

2007-10-27 Thread Tarek Loubani
The solution to this problem can be found here:

http://www.bgevolution.com/blog/index.php/virtualbox-on-gutsy-gibbon-
ubuntu-710-usb-enable/

Copied below without permission

VirtualBox on Gutsy Gibbon Ubuntu 7.10: USB Enable
Posted on October 21, 2007 by nseidm1.
Categories: 7.10, Gutsy Gibbon, fstab, usb, virtualbox.

By default the USB Host system, when installed on Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon,
is disable. To enable it is extremely simple. You can do it manually
with “nano” or “gedit”. Open the following file:

sudo nano /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh

or:

sudo gedit /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh

In this configuration file there is the following section:

—-

#
# Magic to make /proc/bus/usb work
#
#mkdir -p /dev/bus/usb/.usbfs
#domount usbfs “” /dev/bus/usb/.usbfs -obusmode=0700,devmode=0600,listmo$
#ln -s .usbfs/devices /dev/bus/usb/devices
#mount –rbind /dev/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb
—

To enable USB support simple remove the “#” sign in from the the bottom
4 lines so that the section looks like this:

—

#
# Magic to make /proc/bus/usb work
#
mkdir -p /dev/bus/usb/.usbfs
domount usbfs “” /dev/bus/usb/.usbfs -obusmode=0700,devmode=0600,listmo$
ln -s .usbfs/devices /dev/bus/usb/devices
mount –rbind /dev/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb

Don’t forget to add the following line in your /etc/fstab configuration
file (this is required to successfully mount USB devices in your
VirtualBox guest OS):

usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=1001,devmode=664 0 0

[Bug 105155] i8042 should be a module, not built into kernel

2007-04-10 Thread Tarek Loubani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.20

Hi all!

The i8042 module does not play nicely with suspend, and so must be
removed before suspend and reinitialized on resume. Otherwise, it has to
be reinitialized as per Bug #81667. I believe that i8042 is even on the
default acpi blacklist, though I'm not sure where it is and how to check
it.

I will try the latest i8042 from git to see if its behaviour is fixed.
However, until then, I think this should not be a part of the kernel by
default, but a module.

Thank you,

[Bug 202241] [NEW] Error in modunload() in /usr/lib/pm-utils/functions prevents module unloading

2008-03-14 Thread Tarek Loubani
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: powermanagement-interface

In Hardy Heron, it seems that modules listed in SUSPEND_MODULES cannot
be removed by modunload() in /usr/lib/pm-utils/functions

/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/50modules executes just fine, and my temporary
fix has been to replace modunload with modprobe -r in that file.

It's not obvious to me what's wrong with either modunload() or _rmmod()
in the functions file.

In my case, Hardy simply could not suspend when the unload was not
happening. I expected it to suspend. I have version 0.3.18 installed.

[Bug 90425] Re: HAL should not try to use powermanagement-interface first but last

For what it's worth, I had the same problem and also had to go through
the same process of patching before deciding to file a bug for the same
reason. The current order doesn't make sense to me either..

I can confirm that the package posted by Pavel Rojtberg fixed this

running.

[Bug 90155] Re: Keyboard applet does not work in gnome-panel

2007-03-06 Thread Tarek Loubani
Hello,

Thank you for your quick response.

The command gives me the following output:

~$ /usr/lib/gnome-applets/gnome-keyboard-applet
GTK Accessibility Module initialized
Bonobo accessibility support initialized
~$

Nothing appears to happen.

If I do the above, and then do "Add Panel" > Keyboard indicator, then it indeed
appears as expected, but causes problems in the future on subsequent logins.

Hope that helps.
