[Bug 104437] Re: Mounted partitions uses /dev/sdx instead of /dev/hdx as mount device

2007-10-01 Thread Tal Shachar
i have a somewhat similar bug

when i installed the beta

the mount program did creat an fstab with all of the appropriate enteries for
each partition
but from some reason it does not really mount them

when i try to enter the drive it tells me it can't read it

have no idea why

this was not a problem in the previus ubuntu versions

2007-08-31 Thread Tal Shachar

thanks to the daily 31/08 iso of ubuntu gutsy gibbon

my system is lg P1 pro express dual, running on ati radeon x1400 with a
widescreen

the resolution seems to work fine btw
which is sth that was fucked up in previouse verssions as well :)

thank you all crazy programers that know more than me on how to fix
these things

now if only my agre modem and soundcard would work fine :)

[Bug 102291] Re: [needs packaging] et131x driver for Agere ET131x gigabit ethernet cards

2007-08-10 Thread Tal Shachar
it is a very popular module for the network card of more than just a few LG
laptops (many lenovo use it as well)
its not clear to me why it is not an "out of the box support" in a distribution
like ubuntu that marked on its flag the simpleness of installation.

furthermore, even if you are a linux geek, you are stuck in some sort of a
catch 22. in order to have internet--> you need the driver || in order to get
the driver --> you need the internet. :)
and then starts the trouble of defining usb disk on keys and tons of hell

i don't understand why they just won't put it as an out of the box thingy.
i mean, even if its license is a bit problematic from what i understand it is
possible to put it as a restricted driver which only those who are interested
will install, much like they do with ati drivers. (which is yet another
tidiouse problem for those of you with readon x cards)

[Bug 119465] ati radeon cards won't work

2007-06-08 Thread Tal Shachar
Public bug reported:

this problem started on ubuntu edgy, continued with feisty, and now it
taggs along to gutsy gibbon.

from some reason any ati card (at least i know on my own expirience that it
happens on ati mobility radeon x1400) just won't work, period.
doesn't matter if you install it in any resolution, regular mode, safe graphics
mode.

in any situation it just crashes in the middle of the instalation and
tells you that it couln't install your graphics card.

from my experience with dapper and feisty this problem could be solved
by installing from the alternative disc, and then installing the fglrx
drivers manualy in command line.(cause forget about an out of the box
working graphic gui)

what i did on feisty to make it work was the following things:
first i enabled restricted repositories
then i edited xorg.conf
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and aded the following lines:

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "off"
EndSection

then i continued with the following code lines:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-$(uname -r) # (Okay if it is
already installed)
sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
sudo depmod -a

sudo aticonfig --initial
sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv

sudo shutdown -r now

i really think that this problem should be fixed automatically on the
installation proccess. i mean, i'm no programer, and if i managed to
solve it my self, i imagine its no biggie to solve it automaticly by the
installation proccess or the live CD

[Bug 119468] et131x, ethernet card

2007-06-08 Thread Tal Shachar
Public bug reported:

well, thats an old ubuntu problem, with an easy solution.
why wasn't it fixed yet? i duuno. :P

any agere ethernet card just won't work
the model name is et131x
and there is a solution
i don't know why it wasn't integrated into the system yet.

here are to useful links for installing the driver for this network card

http://dadams1969.googlepages.com/et131xkernelmodule
http://sourceforge.net/projects/et131x/

its just so annoying to try and install it, trying to get the driver on the
computer, WITHOUT ANY INTERNET CONNECTION !! :)

anyway's, it will be nice if it happened automaticly. after all
thats what ubuntu is all about . no?
