[Bug 300271] Re: Setting the network proxy doesn't change the synaptic proxy settings (gnome-network-preferences) for authenticated proxies
I can confirm this: no password or no_proxy variables are written to /etc/environment. This probably means this bug affects all 'terminal' apps, since they would all need the passwd and no proxy infor;ation to function correctly... -- Setting the network proxy doesn't change the synaptic proxy settings (gnome-network-preferences) for authenticated proxies https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/300271 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 300271] Re: Setting the network proxy doesn't change the synaptic proxy settings (gnome-network-preferences) for authenticated proxies
If you are referring to gnome-network-preferences, that's what I used to set the proxy and proxy exceptions settings. This is supposed to write some variables which other programs use (amongst which, I suppose, synaptic, but also things like wget), in /etc/environment. When you change the settings using gnome-network-preferences (and use the set system wide button), some variables are not written to /etc/environment, namely the ones that govern the authentication for the proxy, and the exceptions list. The ones that say which server to use are written to that file. This has the effect that an effected app either can access the proxy server but can't authenticate, or that it can access a proxy server that doesn't use authentication, but doesn't know when NOT to use the proxy, eg when accessing stuff on the local LAN. Steps to reproduce: 1) open gnome-network-preferences 2) select manual configuration, enter a valid proxy server, set up authentication if needed 3) add some exceptions on the next tab 4) click set system wide, fill in password 5) check /etc/environment: observe that the settings for the proxy are there, except the ones for authentication, and the no_proxy one.

I can confirm this as well The crash only happens when you give a process a lower nice value (requiring root rights) , not when you renice it to a higher value (which can be done without root rights). It seems like there's a problem asking for the user password for the renice, because my taskbar does show a "administrative task" entry, the admin window that should ask the password never appears though, and the gnome- system-monitor closes. -- System Monitor crashes when changing nice value of process https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206583 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 106303] iec958 is docking headphone instead of spdif
Public bug reported: I have a dell xps m1710 laptop, which has the ability to output digital coax spdif through either the extra pin on the s-video or the dell d-docking station spdif connection. This works in windows, so it's not a problem with the docking. With the intel-hda driver, the spdif output does not work. There is an iec958 switch in the mixer, but this seems to toggle the docking station's headphone jack on and off, instead of enabling/disabling the spdif output as one would expect. When using the docking headphone jack, the laptop speakers are not turned off, and the volume cannot be changed (fixed volume). The headphone jack on the laptop does turn of the laptopspeakers when used, and reacts to the normal volume controls. [Bug 115984] Re: beid segfault in 64 bits mode
I found the following workaround: 1. add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list (add hardy repository): deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu hardy main restricted universe multiverse 2. add to/create the file /etc/apt/preferences (make sure only packages you manually upgrade from the hardy repo get upgraded, not all of them): Package: * Pin: release a=hardy Pin-Priority: 400 3. run apt-get update 4. run the following: sudo apt-get install -t hardy beid-tools The last step will update a lot of things, amongst which libc6. So far, this has not caused problems for me, but ymmv. I guess this also makes this package unsuited for backporting. I also had to do a reboot before the new packages would work, but since then all eid-supported stuff runs flawless: signing mails in thunderbird, logging on to taxonweb, You may also want to remove the hardy repository from sources and the lines in the preferences file after the upgrade, as it may cause some trouble when you should decide to upgrade your ubuntu in the future. In case you run into problems and want to rollback the changes: 1. Make sure you don't have the Hardy repositories present in your "/etc/apt/sources.list" (see step 1 of installation.) 2. Edit "/etc/apt/preferences" to contain the following, and delete any references to Hardy: Package: * Pin: release v=7.10 Pin-Priority: 1100 Note that the release should be changed for whatever release you are using (eg., 7.04 for feisty, 7.10 as shown for gutsy.) You should specify this by version number and not by name because otherwise you need separate entries for gutsy, gutsy-updates, etc. 3. Run "apt-get dist-upgrade". This will downgrade your packages. 4. Edit "/etc/apt/preferences" and remove the pin you added in step 2, or just remove the file completely. You should now be back at your current release. ps: most of the above info comes from this thread on ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=4293754&postcount=325 -- beid segfault in 64 bits mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/115984 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 70687] Re: both button and tap-to-click cease working intermittently on touchpad
I can confirm this bug on a dell XPS m1710 (core 2 duo 2ghz, 2gb ram, geforce 7950/512) I'll try the notcs option, I hope that solves the problem... Haven't tried the 32bit version.. -- both button and tap-to-click cease working intermittently on touchpad https://launchpad.net/bugs/70687 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 639908] Re: brasero crashed with signal 5 in g_variant_new_va()
I had this problem when trying to copy a dvd to iso. Installing libdvdcss2 from the medibuntu repo fixed it, so I guess this error points to a missing dependency for the task brasero needs to perform. No idea what that would be for an audiocd though... -- brasero crashed with signal 5 in g_variant_new_va() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/639908 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 628144] Re: Slow / unresponsive unity while launching applications
I also would say that the "applications" launcher is too slow on an Asus EEE 1000HE...
