[Bug 211318] Re: KDM hangs upon logout in Kubuntu 8.04
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 181343 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181343 Confirmed. Kubuntu 8.04 (freshly installed) Using nvida-glx with GeForce4MX. If I remember it didn't happen with "nv" driver. Display size is 1600x1200 where usplash tries to display something at max res (over 1900x1400), this corrupts all consoles. Tried with basic KDE4 settings (no .kde4) it's ok, any new settings that creates a .kde4 directory will eventually lead to a crash of knotify4 (quickly disappears). Notification sound is delayed by 5 to 10 secs before crash. This doesn't happen with KDE3.5 Both kdm and kdm4 were used with same results. -- KDM hangs upon logout in Kubuntu 8.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211318 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

continued from Swift: *** Running kdm from KDE4 *** The Nvidia module crashed and reports backtrace in /var/log/kdm.log (Driver 96.43.05). Sorry I don't have it anymore. [Bug 334249] Re: Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty
I can confirm the same problem with a Dell Vostro 1510. I've been able to define it exactly: Cold boot (adaptor or battery): Kbd and Trackpad do not work at login screen. Solution is to keep adapter plugged in, keep battery in, press power button, laptop powers off, then immediatly press power button to power it on again. If you wait too long (a minute or so) it won't work. Cold boot (battery): kbd and trackpad do not work at login screen. Workaround is to plug in external mouse and press reboot button. This does not completely power off hardware between cycles. Looking through the logs, I see that on the first boot, where it doesn't work, two less modules are detected. In the boot where it works, it detects more hardware and configures the stuff. I'm attaching the relevant logs. ** Attachment added: "bootlogs of working and not working boots." http://launchpadlibrarian.net/28412411/bootlogs -- Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334249 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 428817] [NEW] Print Dialog does not allow editing of page parameters
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cups-pdf In Ubuntu-jaunty amd64, Cups PDF driver does not allow us to change the paper size, orientation, or anything. I would like to print my images from GIMP to pdf, but they are wider than an A4 page, and so I cannot print them to a whole pdf! I know PDF format can support multiple sizes. And the options are there, just greyed out. This is non-application specific. Firefox print dialog behaves the same. OOo Print dialog doesn't even show the Cups PDF driver. If those options are there, but are just greyed out, I would consider this a problem. If the options have not been implemented, perhaps put up a notice on that tab saying that they don't exist? [Bug 428817] Re: Print Dialog does not allow editing of page parameters
Oops... I notice that you've assigned it to GTK. Good on you! My suggestions: 1. Get rid of page setup tab on printer dialog. Its useless. Integrate the functionality that seems to be targeted at it in the File > page setup dialog box. 2. Allow the application to specify custom page sizes automatically (eg, printing to pdf in GIMP should give the option to use the image size for page size). 3. Move the new Page Setup dialog box to the printer dialog, as a tab. Make File>Page Setup open the dialog set to that tab. Again, I hope this is ironed out in the future. Re: [Bug 428817] Re: Print Dialog does not allow editing of page parameters
You have to use File>print setup, not the options in the print dialogue box. Re: [Bug 334249] Re: Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty
Try this: After booting up, read the grub instructions. You should be able to press e to edit one of the boot options. press e. select the kopt line (Kernel options line) to edit, press e again (if I remember correctly). Add i8042.reset i8042.nodemux to the end of the line. then boot from that line. Now your keyboard should work when you get to ubuntu. edit (as root) your /boot/grub/menu.lst file to include "i8042.reset i8042.nodemux" to the end of the kopt line. Save it. Your problems shoudl be solved until next update. Next time you upgrade your kernel, those options that you just added won't be carried forward. To carry them forward automatically, add those options to the default kernel options in the automagic kernels list section of menu.lst, and run sudo update-grub On Mon, Aug 24, 2009 at 4:53 AM, plnnightsky wrote: > I am running vostro 1510 with very similar issues. Here's a snippet from my menu.lst, on a vostro 1510. I initially had the same problem as you. Edit yours to look like this (note the kopt line), and run sudo update-grub, you should be good to go! ### BEGIN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST ## lines between the AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST markers will be modified ## by the debian update-grub script except for the default options below ## DO NOT UNCOMMENT THEM, Just edit them to your needs ## ## Start Default Options ## ## default kernel options ## default kernel options for automagic boot options ## If you want special options for specific kernels use kopt_x_y_z ## where x.y.z is kernel version. Minor versions can be omitted. ## e.g. kopt=root=/dev/hda1 ro ## kopt_2_6_8=root=/dev/hdc1 ro ## kopt_2_6_8_2_686=root=/dev/hdc2 ro # kopt=root=UUID=5b57a778-aea9-454c-832e-4fda8cd2fac3 ro i8042.reset i8042.nodemux resume=/dev/sda2 skype: swift.arrow facebook: facebook.com/linkeshd Lakshya (Association of Mechanical Engineers) Medicine for Tibet (Australian Charity) People for Animals (Kollam Chapter) Indian Youth Climate Network Agents of Change: Political Strategy Working Group President: Wise Earth Publishers Website designer/developer. [Bug 437524] Re: wifi stopped working in ubuntu 9.04
Thank you for reporting this bug. As your report stands the information given could be a bit thorough if you could help out by doing the following things it may help us diagnose the bug a bit more accurately. Can you please run this command and paste the output here. "lspci | grep Network" . Could you please allow let us know what happens if you connect through the command line as this may help us narrow down on the package affecting this bug. A guide for this is available at: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-troubleshoot-wireless-network- connection-in-ubuntu.html Also when refering to the wifi being turned on and off, is this something that the machine is doing by itself or is it possible that you are flicking the switch which disable wifi on your own machine. Your distance from your access may also be an issue, I would recommend going closer to the access point and tell us if the issue re-occurs.
