[Bug 211318] Re: KDM hangs upon logout in Kubuntu 8.04

2008-05-20 Thread Swift
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 181343 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/181343

Confirmed.

Kubuntu 8.04 (freshly installed)
Using nvida-glx with GeForce4MX. If I remember it didn't happen with "nv"
driver.
Display size is 1600x1200 where usplash tries to display something at max res
(over 1900x1400), this corrupts all consoles.
Tried with basic KDE4 settings (no .kde4) it's ok, any new settings that
creates a .kde4 directory will eventually lead to a crash
of knotify4 (quickly disappears). Notification sound is delayed by 5 to 10 secs
before crash.
This doesn't happen with KDE3.5

Both kdm and kdm4 were used with same results.

[Bug 181343] Re: [hardy] logout ends in blank screen

2008-05-20 Thread Swift
continued from Swift:

*** Running kdm from KDE4 ***
The Nvidia module crashed and reports backtrace in /var/log/kdm.log
(Driver 96.43.05). Sorry I don't have it anymore.

Found a workaround I've read somewhere else:
Add the following line in [X-*-Core] stanza in /usr/lib/kde4/etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc
file
TerminateServer=true
(You'll get X fully restarted, kill + restart, and the Nvidia Logo that you can
remove
in xorg.conf file)
Logout still has a weird delay, but eventually works and gets back to Welcome
screen.

[Bug 334249] Re: Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty

2009-06-26 Thread Swift Arrow
I can confirm the same problem with a Dell Vostro 1510. I've been able
to define it exactly:

Cold boot (adaptor or battery):
Kbd and Trackpad do not work at login screen. Solution is to keep adapter
plugged in, keep battery in, press power button, laptop powers off, then
immediatly press power button to power it on again. If you wait too long (a
minute or so) it won't work.

Cold boot (battery):
kbd and trackpad do not work at login screen. Workaround is to plug in
external mouse and press reboot button. This does not completely power off
hardware between cycles.

Looking through the logs, I see that on the first boot, where it doesn't
work, two less modules are detected. In the boot where it works, it
detects more hardware and configures the stuff. I'm attaching the
relevant logs.

[Bug 364003] [NEW] Multiple Video Players Crash After Trying To Load A Video

Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 on an eee pc 904HA.
Compiz/Desktop effects is disabled on this system. This is a fresh

The instructions to follow my problem are below:
I open a media player such as Totem, VLC or another media player, the player
loads up to their home screen with no problems. I then load a video, I have
tested both ogg theora and wmv video and then the application crashes and
quits. I would normally expect it to play the video.

[Bug 317974] Re: [needs packaging] KDE Partition Manager

2009-01-16 Thread Christopher Swift
Yeah I had made a mistake, the entire first comment was incorrect :). I
was thinking about something else. I am now packaging and sorting out
the licensing and copyright of the files to upload to revu for a review
by the Ubuntu MOTU team. After that has been completed, it _should_ be
ready in time for Jaunty.

Have you written a manpage for the project at all? If you haven't I can
write one for you for the project to be Ubuntu uploaded or I can help
you out with writing a manpage yourself, that you can update upstream if
you wanted to?

[Bug 327032] Re: Jabra BT125 Doesn't Work

2009-02-21 Thread Christopher Swift
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 361411] Re: "Save page as" problem

2009-04-14 Thread Christopher Swift
Thank you for taking the time to report this "bug" however it is not a
bug of Ubuntu nor Firefox. The issue lies in the default settings of
Firefox, it auto-saves to the Desktop of the user using Firefox. To
change this go to the Edit toolbar, then Preferences and in that
dialogue window click on "Always ask me where to save files" and this
should fix your problem.

Regards,
Chris.

[Bug 360458] Re: (Intrepid 8.10) Cannot install packages either with Synaptics or update manager

2009-04-14 Thread Christopher Swift
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How
to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

instructions on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs? Also, please answer
these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

P.S. Please disregard the comment about upgrading to an unsupported beta
of the software as Ubuntu and Canonical will be unable to support you
with any further Firefox errors if using unsupported software.

[Bug 428817] [NEW] Print Dialog does not allow editing of page parameters

2009-09-13 Thread Swift Arrow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cups-pdf

In Ubuntu-jaunty amd64,

Cups PDF driver does not allow us to change the paper size, orientation,
or anything. I would like to print my images from GIMP to pdf, but they
are wider than an A4 page, and so I cannot print them to a whole pdf! I
know PDF format can support multiple sizes. And the options are there,
just greyed out.

This is non-application specific. Firefox print dialog behaves the
same. OOo Print dialog doesn't even show the Cups PDF driver.

If those options are there, but are just greyed out, I would consider
this a problem. If the options have not been implemented, perhaps put
up a notice on that tab saying that they don't exist?

I hope whoever fixes this gets paid for it! Thanks for the awesome
work!

[Bug 428817] Re: Print Dialog does not allow editing of page parameters

2009-09-13 Thread Swift Arrow
Oops... I notice that you've assigned it to GTK. Good on you!

My suggestions:

1. Get rid of page setup tab on printer dialog. Its useless. Integrate
the functionality that seems to be targeted at it in the File > page
setup dialog box.

2. Allow the application to specify custom page sizes automatically (eg,
printing to pdf in GIMP should give the option to use the image size for
page size).

3. Move the new Page Setup dialog box to the printer dialog, as a tab.
Make File>Page Setup open the dialog set to that tab.

Again, I hope this is ironed out in the future. I love and really
appreciate all the work that so many selfless ppl have put in!

You have to use File>print setup, not the options in the print dialogue

Re: [Bug 334249] Re: Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty

2009-08-23 Thread Swift Arrow
Try this:
After booting up, read the grub instructions. You should be able to press e
to edit one of the boot options. press e. select the kopt line (Kernel
options line) to edit, press e again (if I remember correctly).

Add i8042.reset i8042.nodemux to the end of the line. then boot from that
line.

Now your keyboard should work when you get to ubuntu.

edit (as root) your /boot/grub/menu.lst file to include "i8042.reset
i8042.nodemux" to the end of the kopt line.

Save it. Your problems shoudl be solved until next update. Next time you
upgrade your kernel, those options that you just added won't be carried
forward. To carry them forward automatically, add those options to the
default kernel options in the automagic kernels list section of menu.lst,
and run sudo update-grub

Here's a snippet from my menu.lst, on a vostro 1510. I initially had the
same problem as you.
Edit yours to look like this (note the kopt line), and run sudo update-grub,
you should be good to go!

### BEGIN AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST
## lines between the AUTOMAGIC KERNELS LIST markers will be modified
## by the debian update-grub script except for the default options below

## DO NOT UNCOMMENT THEM, Just edit them to your needs

## ## Start Default Options ##
## default kernel options
## default kernel options for automagic boot options
## If you want special options for specific kernels use kopt_x_y_z
## where x.y.z is kernel version. Minor versions can be omitted.
## e.g. kopt=root=/dev/hda1 ro
## kopt_2_6_8=root=/dev/hdc1 ro
## kopt_2_6_8_2_686=root=/dev/hdc2 ro

[Bug 437524] Re: wifi stopped working in ubuntu 9.04

2009-10-03 Thread Christopher Swift
Thank you for reporting this bug. As your report stands the information
given could be a bit thorough if you could help out by doing the
following things it may help us diagnose the bug a bit more accurately.
Can you please run this command and paste the output here. "lspci | grep
Network" .

Could you please allow let us know what happens if you connect through
the command line as this may help us narrow down on the package
affecting this bug. A guide for this is available at:
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-troubleshoot-wireless-network-
connection-in-ubuntu.html

Also when refering to the wifi being turned on and off, is this
something that the machine is doing by itself or is it possible that you
are flicking the switch which disable wifi on your own machine. Your
distance from your access may also be an issue, I would recommend going
closer to the access point and tell us if the issue re-occurs.

Thanks

[Bug 1836440] Re: RTL8723BS wifi not working

2019-11-20 Thread James Swift
I have the same issue with this driver. I can boot the live usb with
secure boot and the wifi works. But after install, I cannot get the
module to load the firmware and so there is no interface. I have tried
all the available efi files, but nothing enables the module. Although my
laptop says I can turn of secureboot, it seems to make no difference.

[Bug 1836440] Re: RTL8723BS wifi not working

2019-11-21 Thread James Swift
I will attach a full dmesg from 19.10 when I get back home. In the meantime I
can say that as far as the driver messages go the only difference I have found
is that the following line is present in the live dmesg, but missing from the
dmesg after I install:

rtl8723bs: acquire FW from file:rtlwifi/rtl8723bs_nic.bin
