[Bug 1420698] Re: "use network time" is not installing ntp?
I similarly noticed that one of my three computers running Ubuntu 14.04 did not update the time for DST. Looking into it further, I realized the one that did not update did not have ntp installed. After manually installing, it solved the problem. Re: [Bug 708840] Re: ASUS K42J fail to wake from sleep or hibernate
I got this laptop to suspend/resume by unloading the usb drivers. Add this script to /etc/pm/sleep.d, call it something like 20_custom-ehci_hcd and make it executable: BUSES=":00:1a.0 :00:1d.0" case "${1}" in hibernate|suspend) for bus in $BUSES; do echo -n $bus | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind done ;; resume|thaw) for bus in $BUSES; do echo -n $bus | tee /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind done ;; esac I have not successfully been able to hibernate and resume even with Ubuntu 10.10 and the most up to date kernels. I ran the script: apport-collect -p linux 708840 to report the current state. I was expecting to be prompted to enter what was happening but there was no such prompt. The problem continues to be that when I hibernate, instead of going into a low/no power state, the computer freezes with a blank screen. No keyboard or mouse activity wake (or even affect) the laptop. After hard rebooting, everything runs normal. I followed these directions. The only change is now when I click to hibernate or suspend the screen saver does not come on, the screen goes black but is still running. Thanks for working on this. Re: [Bug 708840] Re: ASUS K42J fail to wake from sleep or hibernate
The computer hibernates after installing this most recent kernel! Thank you. Also, overall the drivers are better for this laptop in Ubuntu 10.10 (compared to 10.04). One example, I found the screen resolution had increased. [Bug 695191] Re: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build
Simon, Kia ora! I just read you post and noticed what you said about the battery life in 10.04 negatively affected because of supplying power to both video cards. Also that you solved this using the 2.6.35 kernel. A few questions: Which computer are you referring to? the ASUS K42JC? (I have been terribly disappointed in battery life for such a new computer.) You mention 2.6.35 kernel is the default for 10.10, do later kernels include the necessary fix or do you have to stick with 2.6.35? Thanks for sharing what you've learned. It'd be great to have this laptop last longer that 45-60 mins. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/695191 Title: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 695191] Re: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build
Additionally, does the 2.6.35 kernel allow the laptop to correctly switch between the two video cards depending on the intensity of the video demand or does it simply only power one of the two video cards? If it does enable the nvidea card to work, is that only after enabling and installing the proprietary drivers? In 10.04, when I enabled and installed the proprietary driver I got a blank black screen and was only able to fix this by reinstalling the OS. I read in a few other places online that people experienced that same problem with the ASUS K42JC. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/695191 Title: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36 bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 708840] Re: ASUS K42J fail to wake from sleep or hibernate
Fabio, I followed your directions. It seems like they all installed but I got the following error report/notice while I was installing the packages you mentioned: ProblemType: Package DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36+bdcom-0ubuntu3 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-020635rc1-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Feb 1 17:27:18 2011 ErrorMessage: bcmwl kernel module failed to build InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release amd64 (20100429) PackageVersion: 5.60.48.36+bdcom-0ubuntu3 SourcePackage: bcmwl Title: package bcmwl-kernel-source 5.60.48.36+bdcom-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: bcmwl kernel module failed to build When I went to test if it would sleep or hibernate, I tried sleep, still unsuccessful (not able to gain access to the computer again without hard rebooting). The hibernate options is no longer available in the Power management gui. I am not familiar enough with power management to hibernate from the terminal so I did not test that.
