[Bug 573349] [NEW] Facebook authorisation fail crashes app
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gwibber When setting up a broadcast account for Facebook in gwibber: - Click "authorise" - Click "Log in with Facebook" - Click "Cancel" - A dialog is shown saying authorisation cannot be completed and the "Broadcast Accounts" program crashes. This problem also occurs if you select "Do not allow" on any of the authorisation options. [Bug 573350] [NEW] Separate system tray icons for each service
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gwibber The current implementation of gwibber in Ubuntu 10.04 is not as user friendly as it could be. As it stands it is split into two distinct sections of the system tray: - The first is represented by an envelope and contains links to open up the main Chat, Mail or Broadcast windows. - The second is represented by a speech bubble along side your username and lets you change the Chat status. These raises several issues: - The first icon of an envelope is misleading when it does more than just mail. - The second icon of a speech bubble is misleading as it does not let you send any chat messages. - It now takes two clicks to open up the contact list for chat or to check mail. - The two icons are separated by the date, which is completely unrelated. I propose this is changed to split the service into three icons, one for chat, one for mail and one for broadcast. This has distinct advantages: - The user now clicks on the icon for the action they wish to perform. - The rare situation of adding new accounts can still be done from within the window that opens, or via right-clicking the system tray icons. - Only a single click is required to get to the primary screen of each service. As it stands I would prefer to turn off the gwibber integration as I feel it is not easier to use than each of the applications independently and I am not confident in the benefits an integration would bring. What do you think? ** Affects: gwibber (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Separate system tray icons for each service https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573350 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 573355] [NEW] Mail does not run in the background
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gwibber Currently the envelope icon in the system tray provides access to the user's chat accounts, mail client and broadcast accounts. Both the chat and broadcast options open a new window for their respective contents, but after closing this window the applications continue to run in the background. When the mail client option is chosen a new window is again opened, but the service is terminated once this window is closed. This behaviour is inconsistent and subtracts from the benefits of the integrated communication system that gwibber provides. I recommend that evolution should run in the background by default, to match the behaviour of the other clients or it should be separated from gwibber altogether. ** Affects: gwibber (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Mail does not run in the background https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573355 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 573360] [NEW] Magic Spacebar option has no explanation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution There is an option within Mail Preferences that says "Enable Magic Spacebar". In order to understand what this option does the user must click "Help", search for "Magic Spacebar", click the first result and they are finally provided with an explanation. All options within the preferences page should be self-explanatory, or in the rare cases that this is difficult, an easy way to get this extra information should be provided. [Bug 573350] Re: Separate system tray icons for each service
Thanks for those links, it was worth raising this bug to get a reference to that article. I understand the work being done and I approve of what you'll be trying to achieve. I see that the system is a work in progress and it is perhaps a little bit of a shame that the full notification area change wasn't ready for this release, especially as after only one day the Opera and bluetooth icons have already made a mockery of the system. I still think an option to separate the messaging menu icons could be a nice idea as these are much more active components of the notification area. Furthermore it would be nice to be told that you have a new IM or a new email by different icons, as they require different levels of attention. And the speech bubble is still misleading. I will keep an eye on the project until the next release. -- Separate system tray icons for each service https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/573350 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 573713] [NEW] Does not initialise properly after install
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: synaptic I installed 10.04 on my laptop without a network connection, so the installation was unable to update package lists or any other fancy things before I first booted the system. Soon after booting, with internet now set up, both Synaptic and aptitude were unable to find either the 'vim' or 'xchat'. If you typed 'vim' into a terminal it would suggest you install the vim package, but aptitude could then not find it. After telling synaptic to reload the package lists and waiting for around 5 minutes, aptitude was able to find and install both vim and xchat. However, synaptic still had no idea about these packages, as shown by the attached screenshot. In summary: 1) Package lists should be reloaded automatically when the OS first has an internet connection or supplied on the installation disk. 2) Synaptic needs to refresh with these new package lists without requiring a reboot. 3) Terminal should never suggest to install a package that aptitude/synaptic know nothing about. Note: I am unsure whether synaptic just failed to recompile its search correctly or had no knowledge of the package at all. As the search is the best way to find a package, I would still consider this a critical failure. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: synaptic If you enter a search term whilst the search is rebuilding, it will show you the currently available results. When the rebuilding is complete, I would expect any new results to be shown, but this does not happen. Instead I need to perform the search again. To fix: Perform the search again when the rebuilding is complete, appending any new results to the bottom of the list. [Bug 532754] Re: gnome-appearance does not reflect order of metacity buttons correctly
This bug is especially important in Ubuntu 10.04 where different themes push the window buttons into different corners of the window. [Bug 573771] [NEW] Unable to change the position of window controls
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 10.04 moves the window controls to the left side of the window, which is fine and is a valid design choice for the theme. However there a great number of a existing Linux users that wish to update all their software whilst retaining an OS layout that they are familiar to. Therefore, the gnome-appearance-properties dialog should allow the user to choose what side of the window the window buttons are placed on. [Bug 680817] Re: Personal information is not saved between sessions
Yes, nothing has fixed it as far as I know. After I posted this report I switched to Pidgin and noticed some strange behaviour. Whilst testing Empathy, I changed my name to Tester, to see what affect it had on the underlying XML (none, apparently). Then in Pidgin, when I spoke to other users, they saw my name as Tester, though I couldn't see it in Pidgin itself. Seems to be some crossover in the configuration files. [Bug 680817] [NEW] Personal information is not saved between sessions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: empathy I have a Jabber account set up. If I go to Edit -> Personal Information, the Alias is set to my email address by default. I can change the alias and it will persist until I reboot my computer, at which point it will be reset to my email address.
