[Bug 183969] Re: xserver-xorg-core update breaks java & wxwidgets apps

2008-01-18 Thread Stephan Steiner
Is glx affected too?
Yesterday I played doom3 on my computer.
This morning I installed the update to 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.1 and I'm not
able anymore to play opengl games.
even typing glxinfo on the terminal crashed the x server.
I tried to upgrade to the 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.2 release, but it did not
help. neither did downgrading to 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8 help.
Any ideas if it is possible that glx may be affected too?
I rebooted after every upgrade/downgrade attempt, just to be sure...

similar problems

Yes, I've got an nvidia graphic card.
I fixed the opengl (glx) problems by restoring the symbolic link
/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so to my nvidia driver

/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions# ls -l
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  16 2008-01-18 21:10 libglx.so -> libglx.so.169.07

[Bug 113532] Re: kernel 2.6.20 disk write performance much slower than 2.6.17

2007-05-16 Thread Stephan Steiner
Same here.
I was running Ubuntu 6.10, and everything worked fine. Then, after upgrading to
7.10, VMware began to run slow due to excessive hard disk activity.
I recorded some statistical data with dstat when starting up a virtual machine
and I get about 50% of cpu wait on computer. See http://tinyurl.com/2ng4tz
I've got a Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core with a Western Digital Raptor SATA hard drive
and 2 GB RAM. I'm using VMware Workstation 5.5.4.
