[Bug 277946] Re: [intrepid] wizardpen tablet wont configure (multiple xinput entries)

2009-04-17 Thread Steffan Jacobs
It works in Jaunty Beta if you apply the patch on
http://code.google.com/p/linuxgenius/issues/detail?id=1 before
compiling.

I used the HAL based configuration on
http://digitalbluewave.blogspot.com/2008/10/genius-wizardpen-with-
intrepid-ibex.html which works perfectly

The only difference seems to be that mouse pointer starts at the top
instead of the middle as usual on startup. I'm wondering if this is
because in the xorg.conf that I use in Intrepid there is

InputDevice "WizardPen Tablet" "AlwaysCore"

in the ServerLayout? The rest of the values seem to be the same whether
set in the HAL file or directly in Xorg.conf. Does anyone know how to
use HAL to influence ServerLayout? It obviously not a problem, just a
small cosmetic thing I'd like to fix.

Is anyone actively maintaining
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TabletSetupWizardpen BTW? I'd like to
help out updating it for Jaunty and making it clearer concerning
Intrepid.

If this is a solution, is this going to end up in an update or at least

[Bug 277946] Re: [intrepid] wizardpen tablet wont configure (multiple xinput entries)

2009-04-03 Thread Steffan Jacobs
I bought a Trust TB-6300 yesterday and have finally configured it in
Intrepid :D.

I was a hassle though.. the documentation has become a bit of a mess
apparently (see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TabletSetupWizardpen
and the pages it links to)

I had to change

in the above file to

to make it match (noting it here just in case someone finds this trying to do
the same thing I did)

I'm using driver 0.7.0-alpha1 and added the TB-6300 configuration on the
help page mentioned above to xorg.conf (this because the calibration
mentioned there first did not seem to work for me)

Does anyone know if this going to be any easier in Jaunty? Would be
really nice if these devices would "just work"

If this thing actually helps fix my RSI I will be willing to help get it
done.

Sorry, leave apport-collect be for now, it's not that important anyway.
It is clear that you are running Karmic, upgraded from Jaunty. I assume
you have not made changes to openoffice yourself, installed any external
packages related to openoffice, etc?

And just for clarity, is the problem that the default formatting for new
documents is not changed, or the default formatting for new paragraphs
etc in a certain document?

2010-01-30 Thread Steffan Jacobs
Is this problem still an issue? If so, it seems a file in the OpenFTD
package is colliding with a package in gift-openft. Since the OpenFTD
packages are external, this is not really a Ubuntu bug, and should be
reported to the packager of OpenFTD, so that he/she can change this name
and make their external packages compatible with Ubuntu's.

[Bug 294187] Re: Firefox Locales should install locale specific search plugins

2010-03-01 Thread Steffan Jacobs
I can reproduce this in both 3.0 (in 8.04 LTS, which will still be
supported on the desktop for a while) and 3.5 (in Karmic), so I have
switched both to confirmed.

It should be considered however that this is probably not a bug that
should be fixed in an LTS release, or even a stable one. I am pretty new
to all this, so if anyone with more experience feels this means the bug
should be invalid, then please make it so.

@Kangaroo:

The suggestion you make above might be a good idea, but I feel it is out
of scope for this bug or even Ubuntu. The point of this bug is that for
all but American users, you get an experience using Firefox in Ubuntu
that is less than that of a separately downloaded Firefox, like you
would also use on Windows or Mac. If you download a Latvian version of
Firefox from Mozilla, you would get the Latvian search engines as well,
with no choice offered. Anyone using the Ubuntu package currently does
not get that and that should be improved. You might want to make your
suggestion to Mozilla though, any improvements to Mozilla upstream will
end up in Ubuntu eventually.

[Bug 463253] Re: enigmail-locales-it is not newer as enigmail package

2009-12-14 Thread Steffan Jacobs
I have tried to use the Italian version (from Karmic) and it works just
fine for me. I installed enigmail-locale-it, which in turn pulled in
thunderbird-locale-it. Since I'm not actually running my system in
Italian, I used export LANG="it_IT.UTF-8" and started thunderbird from
Terminal to start in Italian. It started in Italian and Thunderbird and
Enigmail worked perfectly.

I also tried German and that also worked fine.

I have marked the bug as incomplete now, unless you can give more
information about when the Italian translation does not work, the bug
should automatically expire.

Particularly it would be great if you could give an example file and an

Also, since you are using Kubuntu, you could try removing the package

[Bug 467068] Re: openoffice could not find default browser

2009-11-12 Thread Steffan Jacobs
Confirming this on my Kubuntu Karmic AMD64 install, here's what I did
and experienced:

I started oocalc and created a link to http://www.kubuntu.org/ in the
topleft cell. I clicked the link while my browser was open. I had
previously set firefox as my default browser and this correctly opened
this link in a new tab. Calc however displays an error message saying
that no browser could be found.

Second situation I tested was with firefox not running, when clicking
the link, firefox is opened, but the error message is not yet shown. The
spreadsheet cannot be edited however. When closing firefox again, the
error message that a browser could not be found appears. When closing
this error the spreadsheet is usable again.

[Bug 280651] Re: Default language for Thunderbird

2009-11-16 Thread Steffan Jacobs
I confirm this bug for thunderbird-locale-nl as well.

Ideally some type of system should be in place that will install
whatever language the user was already using for it's system when adding
a new program that has corresponding localization packages. I.e. when
installing thunderbird, the thunderbird-locale-XX package belonging to
the users language should be installed (or at least suggested to the
user).

[Bug 463253] Re: enigmail-locales-it is not newer as enigmail package

2009-11-18 Thread Steffan Jacobs
Can you confirm that the language package at http://www.mozilla-
enigmail.org/download/release/0.95/enigmail-it-IT-0.95.xpi does work
correctly? Don't use the 0.96 package from the website itself, this
might not work as Karmic includes 0.95.

Because of the missing enigmail-locale-nl I am now translating Enigmail
to Dutch myself (upstream). After this is done I will also create a PPA
with packages for Ubuntu. This will be for 0.95 as that is the version
of Enigmail distributed with Karmic. Now that it seems that all packages
are probably outdated I might as well include other languages available
(from the directory above) as well.

[Bug 390648] Re: changing default formatting open office

2010-02-04 Thread Steffan Jacobs
Apparently the package python-launchpadlib is not installed on your
system. You can just install this with "sudo apt-get install python-
launchpadlib". I do think it should be installed as a dependency when
apport is installed though, so this is weird. Perhaps there are more
depency problems on you system. Perhaps you could try "sudo apt-get
check" first and see if it reports any problems.

[Bug 507228] [NEW] K3b plugin external encoder configuration window (lame) is too small by default

2010-01-13 Thread Steffan Jacobs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: k3b

When ripping an audio cd with K3b it is possible to access the settings
of the chosen filetype. The configuration window that appears for
"mp3(lame)" is very small by default and does not show all possible
options. Especially because the options in this window are large
commands, the default size for this window should be larger in my
opinion.

Actually as I've noted I my last comment, the original Italian package

work.

Do you see the XML error direct on starting with the original package?
If there is no problem for the existing language packs, it will be hard
to request get an update for Karmic.

[Bug 490359] Re: Nick saving in amsn 0.98.1

2009-12-25 Thread Steffan Jacobs
First of all, I have not authority to decide anything if that's what you
mean.

I'm also pretty new to all this and I may be wrong about anything, I
want to point out a few things however:

1) There is no current amsn 0.98.2 available on amsn's website and the only
ones who can release it are the amsn team, by placing it on there website.
There is nothing anyone can do on launchpad to make this happen.
2) Updates to stable Ubuntu releases aren't usually new upstream versions of
package, they are based upon patches for a specific problem. This way you can
prevent new problems from arising from other changes / new features.
3) This problem if complicated and based upon a problem in Microsofts servers,
not amsn. A fix was committed somewhere, but from what I can see from the
discussion, it is not really a stable fix yet and might be bandwidth hog. (
though I'd love for someone to prove me wrong on this!)

Read http://www.amsn-project.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7433 for
example, though there may be a better thread about it.

[Bug 903422] Re: Mount / Provide access to Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich, ICS) MTP devices

2012-01-24 Thread Steffan Jacobs
I have recently bought a Asus Transformer Prime which gives no feedback
on my Kubuntu 11.10 laptop when I hook it up in MTP mode. Mass storage
does not seem to be one of the options for USB though that might be
because I did not have any external memory hooked up when I connected
it. Using the instructions a OMG ubuntu I was able to mount the system
quite quickly.

I also own a Samsung Galaxy S. Though this still has mass storage
support for the built-in memory, I tried hooking it up in MTP mode for a
change. Something actually did pop-up and seemed to give some access to
the phone. It seems however that I did not have access to all the files
as I do seem to have on Windows.

I do hope that this can be included in the next release of (K)Ubuntu
because a lot of people will be running into this now. If Ubuntu truly
wants to remain a distro for the not-so-technical users things like this
should really be picked up early.

@w-troop: you might have to install the package mtp-tools (i.e. execute
'sudo apt-get install mtp-tools' ). Though I would still except some
output even if it is not installed. You could try executing just 'mtp-
detect' and see if you can find the values yourself.

[Bug 700043] Re: Install crashes before partitioning (10.10 already installed)

2011-01-07 Thread Steffan Jacobs
I could not attach /var/log/partman, as it did not exist.

I have been testing a bit and have found that having my usb stick
plugged in before booting seems to be the trigger of the crash.

The crash only occurs when the usb stick is set as the first boot
device, but the system is actually booted from the livecd.

BTW, the stick is in this case also not visible as a device in the live
system, until it is unplugged and plugged back in.
