[Bug 980727] [NEW] Cannot connect to certain websites through a roline(rotronic) router
Public bug reported: I have a toshiba laptop from about 2008 connected through cable to a router (roline rotronic router almost no name since I couldn't find firmware upgrades). The router is connected to the isp through pppoe. I cannot connect to google.com or any sites related to google.com such as youtube or sites that use google-analytics. It either times out or it finally connects after about 5 minutes in waiting. This behavior starts about 2 days after booting, so the first about 48 hours everything is peachy. I have tried using firefox, opera, chromium, lynx, wget everything. Ping works and it's not a DNS problem since I tried the google 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 addresses and it doesn't help in any way. I tried restarting the router. Nothing. Modified the mt from 1500 to 1492 like on the pppoe on the router. Nothing. Tried 1464. Now no sites work. Back on 1492, everything works except google. I install wireshark and see that when I wait for google to load I get a lot of TCP previous segment lost errors to google ip. The dns keeps trying different google servers with different ips but all have the same problem: TCP previous segment lost. After a few minutes it either times out or it finds a server that responds. But if I try again then I have to wait another 5 minutes. Rebooting the sytem works. For 2 days that is. Using windows both xp and 7 doesn't exhibit the problem. Other windows machines on the network don't exhibit the issue. I closed all other machines so that I am alone connected to the router. Nothing. After a few hours it might start working again all by itself and after another couple of days it starts having the problem again. I reinstalled the system from scratch. Formatted even the home partition hoping it was some damn configuration file. Still can't connect. Using startpage.com instead of google.com or google.ro (I am from Romania) works. I had the system working for months when I installed some updates including a kernel update a couple of months ago. From then on ubuntu 11.10 started exhibiting this problem. I do not remember what kernel version it was but I updated to 3.2 I think after I tried the precise pangolin beta and it still exhibited the issue. Last thing I tried now: I got rid of the router and connected directly to internet using pppoe configuration from ubuntu. Guess what now google and everything else works. I got back behind the router and you guessed it: everything works except google. So it seems there is some bad interaction between my ubuntu and that router! But then again it worked for months and windows xp and 7 both work like a charm. Any ideas what the kernel programmers might have changed in the tcp stack (I assume it must be something about the interaction between linux stack and the router stack)? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980727 Title: Cannot connect to certain websites through a roline(rotronic) router To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/980727/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1011123] [NEW] Creating a folder in save or save as dialog does not work

Public bug reported: For example when somebody contacts me on pidgin a new highlighted window appears in the task manager. When I click it there are two types of reactions. Sometimes it gets selected and removes the highlight but when I move to a new window it rehighlights even though no new message has been passed and other times it doesn't get selected and remains highlighted even though I selected the window and I am looking at it and when I change focus to another window it remains highlighted. I have added a screenshot to highlight the issue. Another thing to note is that the windows in the task manager seem incomplete at the corners and there is no rectangle around them. [Bug 980727] Re: Cannot connect to certain websites through a roline(rotronic) router
I've tried an older version of the kernel from around september (when I can be sure it worked) and I still have the same problem. So it actually could be the router falling apart. But it still doesn't make any sense because windows is working quite well... Something from the router is interacting wrongly with my Ubuntu and makes it not be able to take connections from google after 2 days. [Bug 947881] [NEW] VirtualBox crash when trying to share a mounted point folder
Public bug reported: I am not sure if this bug is in VirtualBox or is something deeper. I mounted a .img file to /media and then tried to share it to the windows xp running in VirtualBox. When I selected the folder VirtualBox crashed meaning it wouldn't respond to anything with the windows window blackened and the shared folder window also dead. I had to kill all processes linked with VirtualBox from the terminal and when the VirtualBox was zombified I still couldn't get rid of the VirtualBox opened windows. So I tried xkill to kill the opened windows since (theoretically) everything associated with VirtualBox was dead. xkill did the trick and everything closed. Then I went to the mount point with nautilus and when I clicked to open the folder nautilus froze with Uninterruptible trying to do I/O on the folder I guess. From what I read it is impossible to kill an Uninterruptible process so I tried to unmount the damn mounted .img but it said the device is busy. I finally manage to unmount by using umount -l trying to force some exception in the I/O in the kernel but still nothing, nautilus is Uninterruptible. I tried to remount the folder but I couldn't since it said it's busy, so now I am stuck with an open nautilus process that cannot be killed! I do not know whether this is a VirtualBox bug, a mount bug, a nautilus bug or a kernel bug! Any help killing nautilus is appreciated since rebooting is not an option! Also running ps aux | grep nautilus I get user 23726 0.2 0.0 738636 1296 ?DFeb26 27:59 /usr/bin/nautilus Doesn't this mean that nautilus is Defunct? So why am I getting Uninterruptible in System Monitor? [Bug 697358] Re: Regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior
I still have a bug where when I open a window maximized I still need to focus it so it gets right in the center of the screen. It's as if it starts 2-3 pixels to the right or left (on the other side I get white lines or garbage) and only when I refocus i get the window to move to center position and take the whole screen correctly. If you take a look at the attachment you will see two white lines on the left and right of the window going up to the tab menu. Should I report a new bug or is it still in this regression? ** Attachment added: "Screenshot-8.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libwnck/+bug/697358/+attachment/2173892/+files/Screenshot-8.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/697358 Title: Regression in window list applet (wnck-applet) behavior To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/697358/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 738236] [NEW] In the upper right corner of the screen I should see the menu with shutdown restart hibernate etc. Instead I see duplication of username
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Also this bug extends to other areas and is different every time I boot. Sometimes in the lower left corner of the screen at the minimize all windows button I see a duplication like in the the upper right. Or sometimes the wired connection icon (up and down arrow upper right) goes double like sebi ebi next to it. It could be something with the ATI drivers with my 3400 series (which is actually 3450 from what I've seen in Windows 7). In the lower left corner the bug goes away when I start a program in the taskbar and it refreshes or something. [Bug 809643] Re: If only one song in the playlist sometimes after finishing playing it starts again
I cannot yet recreate that issue in debug mode (and I have been running in debug mode since I posted this bug) but I found something that may be related somehow. After finishing the last song in a playlist in starts playing I don't know what song since the song title doesn't change. It's like it jumps to another directory and starts a song from there. The last 2 or 3 songs in rhythmbox-debug.txt exhibited this behavior. The strange thing is that I can get this bug to show only extremely rarely. For example I listened to Blondie-Maria and after the song ended it started another song(I don't know which since I have a large music library and I haven't listened to them all yet). In rhythmbox-debug.txt I see Blondie-Maria as the last song played even though it wasn't. The only thing that I noticed and I may be wrong is that if I get a stutter in a song by let's say changing from a tab to another that is not in main memory in firefox (a small fraction of a second sound hitch) then this issue gets exhibited. Only trouble is I don't always get sound stutters so testing for this bug is made even harder. ** Attachment added: "rhythmbox-debug.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/809643/+attachment/2257166/+files/rhythmbox-debug.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/809643 Title: If only one song in the playlist sometimes after finishing playing it starts again To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/809643/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
