I have a similar problem and it involves so far large tiff files. I always had issues with applications freezing on Ubuntu. For these using strace always revealed underlying reasons. [Bug 1003873] Re: Inkscape hangs while trying to access slow mounts.
This affects me as well. In my case strace shows access to files, which are inaccessible. It is a common practice to hide shared file systems behind private networks. Access via internet required VPN connection or being in the local network. If this is not the case, things get weird. And this actually affects many applications (is not inkscape specific). I had issues with LibreOffice as well. In my case, strace inkscape reveals files which are at the inaccessible network. The IO (which I guess fails) takes seconds until some sort of time-out. But if there are many files, then this takes longer cumulatively. Funny thing is that none of these files were actually in any way associated to inkscape. Basically, this happens while inkscape checks/goes through recently accessed files. My guess is that some library or component does this, which is shared by many applications. If you can find, which (if this is the case) I would like to report the issue them as well. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003873 Title: Inkscape hangs while trying to access slow mounts. [Bug 1518726] [NEW] Webcam cannot start after interrupted access with "VIDIOC_STREAMON: Invalid argument"
Public bug reported: Hi, I am trying to make my first application in C++ with OpenCV, where I am trying to capture images from the built-in webcam on my Lenovo T450s. I use Eclipse CDT as my IDE to write code and debug. During several trials, sometimes I need to STOP running applications via Eclipse (probably through some interrupt signal). Whenever the application is interrupted, during the next run it cannot access the webcam and is returning "VIDIOC_STREAMON: Invalid argument" Apparently this is because resources are not released due to the interrupt. Also VLC cannot access webcam after I start seeing this error. Apparently there are 1-2 reports about this issue related to OpenCV and kernel, and there is also a workaround by handling SIGINT properly and correctly exiting. I could not work that solution in Eclipse, because probably Eclipse STOP button does not send SIGINT but some other signal. Nevertheless, I was expecting kernel to handle this in another way, so that resources would be released automatically to allow other applications to access webcam. [Bug 1535394] Re: Xorg crashes at certain wiki pages via firefox
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 trusty ubuntu ** Description changed: Hi, I am having a weird problem in Ubuntu and I will try to explain when it happens. When I open Wikipedia main page or View history on any wiki page, sometimes (not always) Xorg (I suppose) freezes (UI becomes unresponsive for a while about 10-60 seconds) until it jumps to login screen. If I login, I need to start all the application all over again. Firefox starts but if I repeat the same process (visiting the same web page) Xorg crashes again. The two pages so far this behaviour occurs are: http://en.wikipedia.org (main page, I can however directly open any article and navigate from there) http://imagej.net/index.php?title=ImgLib2_Examples&action=history (history page of a wiki page) There are no dialogs after the crash reporting about a crash. I really don't know how to track the problem to find the cause. Even though Firefox is chrashing, Xorg should not be affected.
