2008-05-20 Thread Rui Castro
Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem. This is a serious bug, it makes my
dvd drive completly useless!

My DVD driver doesn't read video DVDs, it reads Audio CDs with lot of
noise in the sound and mouting data cd/dvd fails with this message.

**

I think this is a kernel related issue.

[Bug 53524] DMA access to CD-writer hangs IDE bus

2006-07-20 Thread Rui Castro
Public bug reported:

I'm having a problem burning CD-R and CD-RW. Everytime i try to burn a
CD-R ou CD-RW or erase a CD-RW the process stalls and i get "hdd: lost
interrupt" in the messages log. After that i have to reboot to be able
to use de drive.

This is a bug already reported in the kernel bug tracker
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5786

For what i understood from the that page the bug is already fixed in
kernel 2.6.16.10.

Is it possible to include this as a patch to the dapper kernel? That
would be really nice because right now i cannot burn dapper install cds
to my friends :) So, if you corrected this you would be helping with bug
#1 ;)

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)

Good news, it's working!
I'm trying Gytsy Release Candidate (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GutsyGibbon/RC) and

hang
My wireless card is Edimax - EW-7128g (rt61).

Good work, thanks.

[Bug 198267] Re: wireless rt61pci driver buggy in Hardy alpha (only 1Mbit/s) - used to be fine on Gutsy

2008-05-07 Thread Rui Castro
Hi,

I have a rt62pci based card and i have the same problem.
The connection is slow (100 KBytes maximum), the latency is very high, and the
link quality is constantly changing (my AP and wireless card are fixed).

For me, in Gutsy was worst, because the connection dropped from time to
time.

I'm attaching version.log, dmesg.log and lspci-vvnn.log.

[Bug 183943] Re: flashplugin-nonfree should include libflashsupport as a dependency

2008-04-24 Thread Rui Castro
Hi,

I have just installed Hardy and flashplugin-nonfree and i had no sound in flash
movies.
I've found out this bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flashplugin-nonfree/+bug/196470 that
libflashsupport is a dependency to be able to have sound in flashusing
pulseaudio.
I definitely support that libflashsupport should be a depency. Without sound,
flash is pretty useless.

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-04-11 Thread Rui Castro
Hi,

I have 2 Edimax EW-7108PCg cards (rt61pci driver), one in gutsy with
hardy kernel and another in hardy beta with all updates.

Both systems are connected to the same access point (with WPA1/AES) and
the connection doesn't fall as it did with the gutsy kernel, but it's
still inconstant in signal detection and performance.

The information about the connection is also wrong, I think.
This is what i see with iwconfig:

wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"Casa"
  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:18:F3:98:D3:C4
  Bit Rate=1 Mb/s Tx-Power=27 dBm
  Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr=2346 B
  Link Quality=48/100 Signal level=-40 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

the quality is varies from 50% to 90% with the wireless card and the access
point in the same room and the bit rate is always 1Mb/s!!!
Copying a music album (~100Mb) from one computer to the other takes arround 15
min. Too slow!

So, for me rt61pci from hardy is more stable, but much more slow than in
gutsy.

[Bug 34902] Re: Ralink Wireless legacy drivers (rt2500 rt61 rt73 rt2570) USB/PCMCIA/PCI hangs PC

2007-08-31 Thread Rui Castro
Hi,

I tried Gutsy tribe 5 with Edimax - EW-7128g (rt61) and it hangs the PC.

In Feisty Fawn, Network Manager doesn't present options to set WPA AES
authentication. I tried a lot of possible solutions i found in foruns
and nothing work. One solution i found here (http://howto.landure.fr
/gnu-linux/ubuntu-feisty-fawn-1/hardware-support-for-ubuntu-feisty-fawn
/easy-wpa-with-ralink-rt2400-rt2500-rt2570-rt61-and-rt7-on-ubuntu-
feisty-fawn) that basically is to use a backported kernel from Gutsy, it
hangs my PC :(

Basically I can't use my brand new wireless card! :(

No net for me, except in Windows of course.

Hi,

Just confirming this bug.
My wireless card is Edimax EW-7108PCg (rt61pci).
In my case the time it takes for the connection to stall is not minutes;
sometimes is minutes others is hours.

wireless network again.
