[Bug 1796539] [NEW] package tinyproxy 1.8.4-5 failed to install/upgrade: installed tinyproxy package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2018-10-07 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Public bug reported:

Configuration file /etc/tinyproxy/tinyproxy.conf contained:
User nobody
Group nogroup

But previous installation used:
User tinyproxy
Group tinyproxy

This has probably changed after upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04.
However, existing files (and their parent folders):
/var/run/tinyproxy/tinyproxy.pid
/var/log/tinyproxy/tinyproxy.log

used uid/gid owners:
tinyproxy:adm

=> tinyproxy service failed to start because of permissions.

[Bug 1840560] Re: "error: can't find command hwmatch" during grub

2019-10-26 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Rather than editing /etc/grub/10_linux, I suggest adding this line to the
/etc/default/grub:
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep

So the problematic if-then statement is not reached at all.
Don't forget executing "sudo update-grub" afterwards.

However, its still just another workaround...

Public bug reported:

Currently, I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with 3.14.1 kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

1. ) I simply tried installing nvidia-331-updates-uvm package from Ubuntu 14.04
repository, and the package installation "failed" (build problems registering
kernel module).
(I was installing just this one package, nothing else).

2.) Afterwards, when package was installed. I tried installing 3.14.4 kernel
from the same source (URI).
The same build problem occured.

=> It seems that this package version of simply not prepared for 3.14.x
kernel.

Hi,
problem still present on linux-image-4.8.0-58-generic with these conditions:
- while executing JVM launched from >>32-bit<< C (on 64-bit kernel)
- defining "higher" JVM stack size (eg. -Xss2048k JVM argument)

=> causes JVM segmentation fault

Attached test case (sources + binary + output logs):
Bug1699772_i386_jvm_segfault_problem.tgz
test_case1.c (32-bit) => using -Xss1024k => RUNS OK.
test_case2.c (32-bit) => using -Xss2048k => Segmentation fault.
test_case1.c (64-bit) => using -Xss1024k => RUNS OK.
test_case2.c (64-bit) => using -Xss2048k => RUNS OK.

2017-07-11 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1699772 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1699772

THIS COMMENT ALSO ADDED TO (PARENT) BUG
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1699772

However, that bug has FixReleased (at least for 64-bit JVMs). I guess it
should be also fixed for 32-bit JVMs launched from C on 64-bit kernel.

I'm not sure, whether it would be better adding this comment just to Bug
1699772, or just to this ("duplicate") Bug 1700270, or creating just another
bug ID.
I have chosen adding it to Bug 1699772 and also here, since my code example is
based on previously-provided test.c which I downloaded from Bug 1700270.

[Bug 1338211] [NEW] Czech version of power-suspendfail contains grammar errors

2014-07-06 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Public bug reported:

Page https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/ubuntu-help/power-suspendfail.html
contains these grammatical errors:

1.) "smáčkněte", it should be "zmáčkněte"
2.) "smáčknout" => "zmáčknout"

3.) To not produce more silly bug report, here is another problem I mentioned
in English version:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PowerManagement/Hibernate

"00sleep_module" should be replaced by "sleep_module" (remove two
zeros).

Unfortunately, both pages are not editable so I can't fix it myself.

[Bug 1283938] Re: [Samsung NP535U4X-S01TH] Ubuntu 14.04 blank screen after wakeup from sleep

2014-07-06 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
HI,
my setup:
- Lenovo T530 with NVIDIA Corporation GF108M [NVS 5400M] (rev a1)
- Ubuntu 14.04 with mainline kernel 3.14.9
- NVIDIA driver nvidia-331-updates:

My computer hanged during hibernate resume just after reading the image from
the disk.
I found working solution by reading non-editable file:
/usr/lib/pm-utils/defaults
This worked for me (so now hibernation works again):

1.) echo "HIBERNATE_RESUME_POST_VIDEO=\"no\"" | sudo tee
/etc/pm/config.d/hibernate
2.) Just to be sure (probably unnecessary):
sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo reboot

3.) Test
sudo pm-hibernate

4.) Alternative test:
# press ctrl+alt+1 (go to virtual terminal)
sudo pm-hibernate

[Bug 1265570] Re: nvidia-331 update installs bumblebee [xorg-edgers]

2014-02-06 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
I was also just trying to install the newest NVIDIA driver only. I was
quite lucky that it took me just a few minutes to find out what was
happening... It also helped me choosing NVIDIA Optimus option in the
BIOS settings. However, only Intel GPU started to work. Bumblebee was
unable to start nvidia (driver), even if I fixed its
/etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf with correct nvidia driver paths...

=> Since I rather prefer performance, I'll purge the bumblebee package
too.

Anyway, there is an interesting report below "Unresolved symbol:
fbGetGCPrivateKey". I suggest that this means that it wouldn't be
working on Saucy (13.10) anyway. Not without installing also other
packages (kernel?, Xorg?).

[Bug 1033253] Re: WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2012-10-19 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
I've just checked that the bug is also present in latest Ubuntu: 12.10 Quantal
Quetzal.
Since nobody has been assigned to this bug I wonder, how to proceed...

I seems to me like a simple compile-time problem or something...

[Bug 481155] Re: Intermittent boot hang, cites modem-manager

2012-10-30 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
It seems to me that this is the problem I face with my T530.

I've got fresh installation of Ubuntu 12.10 and it ALWAYS hangs during
the OS startup.

Workaround: Simple CTRL+C kills the modemmanager and the booting process
continues without problem.

However, it is pretty annoying so I've uninstalled modemmanager for
right...

/var/log/upstart/modemmanager.log attached.

[Bug 1033253] [NEW] WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2012-08-05 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Public bug reported:

1.) lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04

2.) apt-cache policy libXrender1
libxrender1:
  Installed: 1:0.9.6-2build1
  Candidate: 1:0.9.6-2build1
  Version table:
 *** 1:0.9.6-2build1 0

apt-cache policy libXrender1:i386

  Version table:

Packages

3.) What you expected to happen: Eclipse window rendering would be working at
the similar speed as in Oneric.
4.) What happened instead: Eclipse was terribly slow.

Conditions: WID 6.2 Linux version is 32-bit. Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit version
installed with latest updates. ia32-libs and libstdc++5:i386 package to make
WID 6.2 working.

WID 6.2 was running smoothly on Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric) but that stopped
directly after upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04. The problem is that window
rendering (BPEL editor) started to be terribly slow (CPU at 100%).

I tried to investigate the problem and finally after a few days and nights I've
find out that the problem is in libXrender package.
Since code has not been changed between the two Ubuntu releases, it's somehow
related to how the package is build.

5.) My analysis of the problem:

5.1) Some simple tests first
- Usage of different window environment had no effect (Unity, Gnome Shell,
Gnome Classic, XFCE).
- Usage of latest Xorg versions (xorg-edgers) had also no effect.
- Usage of older/newer nvidia drivers had no effect.
- Usage of xserver-xorg-video-noveau had no effect.

5.2) Compare versions and changelog
 http://lino.ubuntuupdates.org/pm/libxrender
   precise mainbase1:0.9.6-2build1
   oneiric mainbase1:0.9.6-2

  Change Log:
  Version: 1:0.9.6-2build1 2012-03-02 07:04:57 UTC
  libxrender (1:0.9.6-2build1) precise; urgency=low
* No-change rebuild against current pkgbinarymangler to fix broken
  md5sums. (see LP #875466)
   -- Martin Pitt Wed, 29 Feb 2012 17:58:51 +0100

5.3) Locate file
  Precise: /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXrender.so.1.3.0
  Oneiric: /usr/lib32/libXrender.so.1.3.0

5.4) Compare libXrender library dependency
=> By using ldd utility
=> nearly same output (ie.just addresses are different)

5.5) Filesize comparison (Result: Size differ significantly)
 Precise size: 34424
 Oneiric size: 38520

5.6) Compare using "file" utility (Result: hashes are different)
Precise: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0x62c06ccdf7ede559a439ac33ac35dec40f035a9c,
stripped
Oneiric: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=0x05ad8f548663c542361448564b6f1c6f881f9e65,
stripped

5.7) Compare libXrender path in loaded libraries (Result: path differs)
 Find all dynamic libraries
 lsof -p | grep -E "\.so\.|\.so" | cut -c74-
List library dependency (using ldd) for every loaded library

 Result:
 - Precise: All used libraries have following dependency:
libXrender.so.1 => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXrender.so.1 (0xf69bd000)
 - Oneiric: Not tested (already upgraded to Precise). Very likely
/usr/lib32/libXrender.so.1.

5.8) libXrender is used by following loaded libraries

/opt/IBM/WID62/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/2282/1/.cp/libswt-atk-gtk-3453.so:

/opt/IBM/WID62/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/2282/1/.cp/libswt-cairo-gtk-3453.so:

/opt/IBM/WID62/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/2282/1/.cp/libswt-pi-gtk-3453.so:

 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodules/im-ibus.so:

/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/printbackends/libprintbackend-cups.so:

 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcairo.so.2.11000.2:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libcanberra-gtk.so.0.1.8:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.10:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0.2400.10:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0.3000.0:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXcursor.so.1.0.2:
 /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libXrandr.so.2.2.0:

6.) Workaround (use Oneiric libXrender library version):
6.1) Copy /usr/lib32/libXrender* from Oneiric to
/opt/IBM/WID62/oneiric/usr/lib32/
6.2) Make WID startup script /opt/IBM/WID62/runwid.sh with following content:
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/IBM/WID62/oneiric/usr/li

No (relevant) stdout/stderr errors were logged after Eclipse was started.
That's also the case for .metadata/.log log file in Eclipse's workspace.

[Bug 1033253] Re: WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2013-05-01 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
6.) SOLUTION - WORKAROUND 2:
After applying this workaround, BPEL rendering is fast again (in WID
6.2) and WID doesn't crash anymore.

Note: Workaround no. 1 used libxrender.so only. Now more (dependent)
libraries are also needed.

6.1) This patch is probably NOT needed:
Download: eclipse.platform.swt.binaries-3453i.zip
URL:
http://git.eclipse.org/c/platform/eclipse.platform.swt.binaries.git/

Modify files in /opt/IBM/SDPShared/plugins:
org.eclipse.swt_3.4.2.v3453a.jar
- Delete all files in META-INF except MANIFEST.MF
- Remove all signature related tags (SHA-1) from
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.4.1.v3453a.jar
- Delete all files in META-INF except MANIFEST.MF
- Remove all signature related tags (SHA-1) from
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
- Copy new *.so files from
eclipse.platform.swt.binaries-3453i.zip
Path in ZIP:
eclipse.platform.swt.binaries-3453i/bundles/org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86/
  to root of
org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.4.1.v3453a.jar

6.2) Use older library version (from oneiric = Ubuntu 11.10) for WID 6.2

export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/IBM/WID62/__WID_problem/oneiric/usr/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

[Bug 1033253] Re: WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2013-04-20 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Problem still valid, I'm about to ugprade to 13.04 soon. So I will
report if the bug will be still there (or more interestingly, whether
the workaround would still work)...:-)

[Bug 1033253] Re: WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2013-04-29 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
I've just upgraded from Ubuntu 12.10 to Ubuntu 13.04 during the weekend.
1.) The problem with libxrender library is STILL valid.
2.) Moreover, the workaround with oneiric's libxrender library version no
longer works (entire X server crashes after few clicks in WebSphere Integration
Studio when BPEL is opened).

So I've to find some other solution. :-(((

[Bug 481155] Re: Intermittent boot hang, cites modem-manager

2012-11-01 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
Unfortunately (for me), the workaround "solution" doesn't work for me at
all. I'm current even not certain if the problem described by me is
really in the modemmanager package.

Therefore please IGNORE my previous comments since they may NOT be
related to this ticket at all :-(((

Sorry for any inconvenience.
