The bug has already been fixed in Jaunty. Go to Workarounds in
CompizConfig-Settings-Manager and turn on "Force synchronization between
X and GLX".

[Bug 236422] Re: sansa mp3 players not mounted when plugged in

2009-05-04 Thread Rob_H
I am having the same problem with my Sansa e260, which was working just
fine as a USB storage device under Ubuntu 8.10, but since switching to
Kubuntu 9.04 and KDE 4.2, it won't mount consistently. (It worked once a
few days ago, but not since.)

If I tail /var/log/messages when I plug it in, I can see it getting
detected:

...kernel: [ 519.384118] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and
address 7
...kernel: [ 519.520350] usb 1-4: configuration #128 chosen from 1 choice
...kernel: [ 519.552853] scsi11 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
...kernel: [ 529.928151] usb 1-4: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd
and address 7
...kernel: [ 530.076366] scsi12 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices

One strange thing here is the "reset" that happens ten seconds later. I
don't know what that's all about.

I can also see it in lsusb:

...
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0781:7421 SanDisk Corp. Sansa E200 series
...

But it doesn't show up in the KDE device notifier at all.

[Bug 351283] Re: [X300] Randomly, the texts and backgrounds on plasma widgets start to disappear

2009-07-10 Thread Rob_H
I see the same symptoms using the "radeon" driver with my Radeon X1550.
This is with Jaunty upgraded to KDE 4.2.4.

Don't understand why this was marked as a duplicate of bug 343944. The
symptoms are not the same. I see no memory leak as described in that

[Bug 42759] Re: Firestarter init fails on system boot when NetworkManager is used

2006-10-21 Thread Rob_H
Same problem, but I was able to solve it using the script posted here:

http://www.debian-administration.org/users/emeitner/weblog/2

I suggest calling the script
/usr/share/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/50firestarter so it will launch
after the 01ifupdown script. Otherwise, it doesn't work. Of course, you
also need to make the script file executable.

Usiing this approach, you can disable the Firestarter system service. It
fails to start at boot time anyway.

[Bug 184134] X.org security update broke Eclipse

2008-01-18 Thread Rob_H
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-core

After installing the most recent security update to X.org, Eclipse
Europa (installed from tarball) fails to start. If I run it from the
console, I see this:

The program 'Eclipse' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 1272 error_code 11 request_code 148 minor_code 5)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

The updated packages which I suspect caused this regression are the ones
mentioned in security notice USN-571-1. Namely:

* libxfont1 1:1.3.0-0ubuntu1.1
* xserver-xorg-core 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-12ubuntu8.1

Although I don't know for sure if these are the culprits because a few
other packages were upgraded at the same time. The error is certainly
related to X.

[Bug 69118] Re: knetworkmanager freezes if kwallet doesn't open immediately

2007-05-16 Thread Rob_H
I can't point you to the specific patch, but I can say that I also have
an HP Pavilion DV8000 series, and I have not had this problem since
upgrading to Feisty. By contrast, it was happening very frequently under
Edgy. FWIW, I am not using the Broadcom-based wi-fi that comes in the
Pavilion; I have a separate wi-fi card. But I don't think that would
make any difference.

[Bug 84774] Crackling sound during MP3 podcast playback in Amarok 1.4.5

2007-02-12 Thread Rob_H
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: amarok-xine

Since upgrading from Amarok 1.4.3 to 1.4.5, I hear a crackling sound
during playback of various MP3 podcasts. It starts about a minute or so
into playback, grows louder, and doesn't go away. Surprisingly, this
does not happen when playing back MP3s ripped from CDs. The only
difference I can think of is the bit rate.

I am using the Xine engine, and have tried various output plugins to no
avail. For what it's worth, I'm using an ATI IXP SB400 AC'97 integrated
audio controller on an HP laptop. The driver is just the default one
that ships with Kubuntu Edgy.

[Bug 519331] [NEW] PolKit-Qt dev package does not install CMake module

2010-02-09 Thread Rob_H
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libpolkit-qt-dev

The tutorial example for KAuth in KDE 4.4 does not build in Kubuntu
Karmic with the 4.4 beta packages or probably Lucid because CMake cannot
find the Polkit-Qt library even though the libpolkit-qt-dev package is
installed. I believe this is because the libpolkit-qt-dev package does
not install the CMake module ("FindPolkitQt.cmake").

[Bug 519331] Re: PolKit-Qt dev package does not install CMake module

2010-02-09 Thread Rob_H
I don't see "FindPolkitQt(-1).cmake" getting installed by any Ubuntu
package. If it's supplied by KDE, shouldn't it be installed under the
"kde-devel" or "cmake-data" packages then?

My point is that the KAuth tutorial doesn't build right now because the
kde4_install_auth_actions CMake macro depends on the PolkitQt CMake
file, and nothing is supplying it. But for this one issue, the tutorial
would build fine.
