[Bug 305750] [NEW] Subwoofer not working in Intel Macbooks
Public bug reported: Upon installation of Ubuntu 8.10, sound can be enabled by adding "options snd_hda_intel model=mbp3" to /etc/modprobe.d/options (This is needed due to a detection issue, but that is another bug) After rebooting, the sound does work, but there is no sound from the Macbook's built-in subwoofer which makes the sound very poor sounding in comparison to how it sounds in OSX. This difference puts Ubuntu in a bad light. Users often complain about "tinny" or "poor quality" sound. This is specifically occurring on Macbook4,1 models (and likely Macbook3,1 as well) Reference: https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4086 http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_name=4935B32D.3060501%40forestfactory.de ** Affects: alsa-driver Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: mactel-support Importance: Medium Status: Confirmed ** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Bug watch added: ALSA Bug Tracker #4086 https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4086 ** Also affects: alsa-driver via https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=4086 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Also affects: mactel-support Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mactel-support Importance: Undecided => Medium Status: New => Confirmed -- Subwoofer not working in Intel Macbooks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305750 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 262550] Re: WARNING: Intrepid might burn down MacBook Pro
You obviously do not understand how this process works. The applesmc in the Linux kernel module that allows fan-control, and temperature sensors to work in Intel-based Macs. A few of the comments above are by a user that is basically maintaining this module right now. That means that if there is a problem with it's function, he is very likely the one that will fix it and submit the patch to make the changes part of the Linux kernel. Instead of fighting the people trying to help you, you should try to give the information you can, and actually read / try the information suggested in what they link to so that the appropriate fixes can be made. Additionally, in order to be part of the Ubuntu default install, it has to be in the stable Linux kernel already when the distro's release is made. That takes time, and in the meantime, we have to work around issues. If you can help get this fix completed, it may very well be that the next release of Ubuntu will "work out of the box", but unless the problem is identified, and a fix created, that cannot happen. rydberg stated stated that "most people do not have this problem anymore" because... they don't! He (and I) know this from interacting with users in the ubuntu forums that have the same hardware as you and have this under control. If you still have a problem, the appropriate information is needed to create a fix. Also, you are being asked to restate your problem because there is so much information here, and suggestions have been made that work well for other people, and yet you are saying that you still have a problem. Because of this, it is quite likely that your problem is not fully understood and restating it might help someone figure out exactly what the problem is, and what would be needed to make the problem go away (or at least get better for now). As for your request that a GUI be made to control the fans, it could very well happen, but Linux relies on someone deciding to start the project and create the software (and really the underlying driver, applesmc, needs to work appropriately first before that can be done). Then it can be made part of a distro. If you would like to see this GUI come to fruitition, maybe you should take the first steps. Being rude and demanding will likely get people to ignore you instead of help you. I'd suggest you try to change your attitude if you would like someone to continue working on this bug. -- WARNING: Intrepid might burn down MacBook Pro https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/262550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Mactel-support] [Bug 268301] Re: ubuntu 8.04 Macbook Air Mic not working
There are WAY more than 3 Intel Mac Portables (There are about 12 I can count off the top of my head.) Additionally, There are FAR fewer Macs when compared to other machines out there and honestly having the mic not working is far less important than other issues that are present. You want to assign the bug to me? Fine. 1. I am removing the confirmed status since, nobody has confirmed anything. 2. Your issue about the community documentation wiki is not valid for the Ubuntu project. It is not official Ubuntu documentation, and thus cannot be attributed to the Ubuntu project. 3.You did provide a link to an existing bug in Linux, and they have reported back that it was fixed. If that bug was truly your problem, then this bug can be closed because the problem is fixed (and has been fixed). Obviously, you still feel that there is a problem, so I am guessing that bug had nothing to do with your problem. 4. [Bug 338083] Re: [Jaunty] MacBook 5.1 will not reboot (Restart).
Colin, I wouldn't expect to see anything interesting in your log since it is working for you. It would be helpful for comparison to others though. To get the log, you can try this: do a reboot, and when your system reboots into the refit screen, turn it off (there is a menu item for shutdown here). then put in a linux liveCD and boot from that. mount your filesystem and make a copy of /mounted/path/var/log/messages That should get you a log that is untouched after shutdown that you can attach here. Then if someone else, who cannot reboot would try, then use the livecd as above to get their log file, they can be compared. -- [Jaunty] MacBook 5.1 will not reboot (Restart). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338083 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

They should not be switched, but generally, if it is a bug that affects only intel macs, it should have mactel-support added to the project list. That helps us keep track of bugs effecting this hardware. I updated the other bugs you mentioned. It is MORE important that an appropriate package is found to file the bug against, rather than just marking it against "Ubuntu". [Bug 281580] Re: [Intrepid] New Bluetooth Wizard fails to pair with Apple Keyboard...
I have one of the white keyboards that predates the aluminum ones. I had it working fine using hidd and the hci reset method described in the blog post I mentioned in the bug description. I have had trouble with this keyboard ever since the bluetooth stack was overhauled for Hardy. I used the actual terminal commands to inferface with bluetooth through dbus, and it works everytime. That, however, does not prompt for a pairing key or anything. I described this method here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4486290 I have also tried numerous other tweaks such as altering the bluetooth device name to include only a very simple string of letters. Putting the keyboard in discovery mode, and scanning finds the device, but when you attempt to connect it just gives an error. That is all. Well, I had my bluetooth device working just fine in Intrepid until the update of the bluetooth stuff. I was using the information found here: http://idebian.wordpress.com/2008/07/06/manage-hid-bluetooth-devices-in-linux/ This explains that I need to reset the bluetooth adapter into hci mode, which I did, still no luck. I will open that bug report, though since the wizard is not giving any kind of output as to why "pairing has failed" I don't know that it will be helpful. -- hidd binary removed form bluez-utils package unable to connect as a result https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191704 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 281580] [NEW] [Intrepid] New Bluetooth Wizard fails to pair with Apple Keyboard...
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: bluez With the latest updates to Intrepid testing, the new bluetooth device setup wizard (which is an excellent improvement over the previous setup methods) fails to pair with my Apple Keyboard (pre-aluminum, broadcom based). No debug information or error messages are given other than "failed to pair". Further making this an issue is the fact that the recent bluetooth updates also removed the hidd binary from Ubuntu (again). This method seems to be the only thing that works for Apple Bluetooth Keyboards recently: http://idebian.wordpress.com/2008/07/06/manage-hid-bluetooth-devices-in-linux/ Notice that it requires hci to be reset, but cannot use hid2hci to do this. The keyboard was working fine previous to the update using the method in the above link. Removing reliable and useful software from the repos that can be useful for workarounds when new software is introduced is not a good idea. The hidd binary has been removed several times from Ubuntu and each time it has been requested that it is put back. Please make this binary available in the repos via other means so that it can be used as a fallback in the future. ** Affects: mactel-support Importance: Medium Status: New ** Affects: bluez (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apple bluetooth keyboard mactel ** Also affects: mactel-support Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mactel-support Importance: Undecided => Medium -- [Intrepid] New Bluetooth Wizard fails to pair with Apple Keyboard... https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/281580 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
