[Bug 442318] [NEW] Alternate install x64 on a Dell M1710 fails

2009-10-04 Thread Rickard Andrinsson
Public bug reported:

Several attempts to install using the alternate installer x64 cd fails.
I've tried it in VmWare as well as directly on the HW. Image/cd were
checked and was deemed ok. Install seems to work, but reports a
segmentation fault after reboot, or just hangs silently after checking
the battery status. When trying to use the rescue option on the cd, the
installer after a while reports that the cd is missing.

[Bug 447232] [NEW] Volume control only handle one of the sound channels

2009-10-09 Thread Rickard Andrinsson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

My volume buttons and the levers in apps that play sound only change the
volume on one of the speakers (Dell XPS M1710) Sound is also way too
loud at full volume, much higher then I've ever heard before from this
PC wich means distorsion and rattling and fear of destroying the
loudspeakers. The EQ setting on this sound must be seriously messed up,
as it sounds like the bass frequencies are very heavily boosted. I can
change the volume in the sound settings under "Application", but it's
only on/off. Volume is the same until I move the lever about 80% to the
left, then it turns silent.

I don't know if this is a bug in the alsa, the gnome-volume-control-
applet or anything else, but this worked flawlessly in 9.04 out of the
box.

[Bug 447232] Re: Volume control only handle one of the sound channels

2009-10-11 Thread Rickard Andrinsson
Noticed one thing: It's the control of the volume buttons in front of my
Dell that's bugging out. When I started Alsa mixer and used the volume
buttons, I saw that the buttons only affected the master volume. The PCM
and the LFE isn't affected until master is at 0, then those two go to
zero if I press the button a few more times. If I use the lever for PCM
in the alsa mixer, I can adjust the playback volume just the way it
should work with the frontal buttons.
