[Bug 705243] Re: Ubnutu-certified laptop: Synaptics touchpad broken, misdetected as PS/2
It works for me since probably about August last year (2011-08). I think it must have been working by the time I posted the requested log files. I'm sorry I did not point that at the time -- I wasn't paying attention when I posted the files. I am not sure what changes I made since the last time I confirmed that it wasn't working. What should I do with respect to this report now? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/705243 Title: Ubnutu-certified laptop: Synaptics touchpad broken, misdetected as PS/2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/705243/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected oneiric ** Description changed: The touch pad is completely unresponsive. Apparently, it is now recognized as an ALPS (see the output of "xinput" below). These are the new symptoms, as of around March 2011. The old symptoms are listed at the bottom. [Bug 892040] [NEW] Wireless network is turned off after booting
Public bug reported: After booting and logging in, the wireless network is turned off. The network indicator shows it is on, but there is no connection and the indicator menu shows no networks visible. [Bug 807870] [NEW] When copying, detect files with same content but different names
Public bug reported: When copying or moving files from one directory to another, it is very often useful to know if there are identical files in the destination directory, albeit under different names. This should not be done by default, but using a "paste special" operation that could be placed as a menu entry that opens a dialog with the check box "Check for destination files with identical content"; later, other check boxes can be added. [Bug 814305] [NEW] Inspiron 1545 Wireless does not work until wired network connected
Public bug reported: After upgrading to 11.04, the computer no longer connects to the wireless network automatically. Clicking on the indicator applet in the panel shows no visible wireless networks. But when I plug in the network cable then immediately take it out again, the wireless connects to my network. The same happens when switch off wireless through the Network Settings and switch it on again. When I am connected to the Internet through my wireless network, the Network Settings shows a status Wireless "online" (which is correct), but also "wi-fi is on but not connected to the Internet". Public bug reported: When I boot the laptop and close the lid, the laptop does not suspend. [Bug 705243] [NEW] Certified laptop: ALPS touchpad broken, misdetected as PS/2
Public bug reported: "lshw" and "/proc/bus/input/devices" list the touchpad as a PS/2 mouse; USB mouse support also breaks sporadically. This is an Ubuntu certified system, Dell Inspiron 1545. I bought it from Dell with Ubuntu 9.10 installed, and everything worked through many updates until late November 2010. Now the touchpad right button and scroll do not work, and tapping is extremely sensitive (recognizing a tap when I did not touch the touchpad) and cannot be disabled. (The cursor moves fine.) Exactly when the touchpad started acting up, so did the USB mouse. Sporadically, the right button and scroll wheel do not work. All left- clicks act inside a particular window, even if the cursor is outside the window; the cursor does not change between an arrow and an "I" outside the window. Sometimes, all mouse buttons and the Alt key do not work; the cursor freezes as either an arrow or an "I", regardless where it is moved. The symptoms are the same with a fresh install (or live CD) of Ubuntu 9.04, 9.10, 10.04, 10.10. This suggests that there was some firmware installed initially, which was overwritten by some update and is not re- installed with a clean install. This could be the same bug as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/641320 or https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/191024 or https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/565543 I think the touchpad is ALPS but it could be synaptics Below are the diagnostics, as per instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection . ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/705243/+attachment/1800114/+files/Xorg.0.log ** Description changed: "lshw" and "/proc/bus/input/devices" list the touchpad as a PS/2 mouse; USB mouse support also breaks sporadically. Inspiron 1545 is Ubnutu-certified: see http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/200910-4252 . I have one which works mostly. After booting, it does not suspend and the Power Management Preferences application does not show the General tab, only the "On AC Power" and "On Battery" tabs. But after this app is run once and closed, running it again shows the General tab, and closing the lid suspends the computer. I bought the laptop from Dell with Ubuntu 9.10 pre-installed. [Bug 638025] Re: Cannot disable 'tap to touch' on touchpad Dell Inspiron 1545
It might be the same bug, but only if your computer does not recognize your touchpad, in which case it's not a bug in xserver-xorg-input- synaptics but either in the Linux kernel or in udev. To check how it's recognized, could you run these commands and post the output: sudo tpconfig -i cat /proc/bus/input/devices xinput --list -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638025 Title: Cannot disable 'tap to touch' on touchpad Dell Inspiron 1545 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 705243] Re: Ubnutu-certified laptop: ALPS touchpad broken, misdetected as PS/2
** Description changed: The touchpad right button and scroll do not work, and tapping is extremely sensitive (recognizing a tap when I did not touch the touchpad) and cannot be disabled. (The cursor moves fine.) "lshw" and "/proc/bus/input/devices" list the touchpad as a PS/2 mouse; USB mouse support also breaks sporadically. This is an Ubuntu certified system, Dell Inspiron 1545. http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/200910-4252 I bought it from Dell with Ubuntu 9.10 installed, and everything worked through many updates until late November 2010. Exactly when the touchpad started acting up, so did the USB mouse. - This could be the same bug as - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/638025 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/641320 - or https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/191024 - or https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/565543 + This could be the same bug as bug 638025, bug 641320, bug 191024, or bug + 565543. [Bug 500047] Re: trying to connect to wireless network on fresh install of 9.1
I have the same laptop model, but with an Intel 64-big processor. What is the symptom you are reporting? My wireless works fine in all versions from 9.10 to 10.10 using the B43 proprietary driver. On my computer, pressing F2 toggles the wireless state, so pressing it 3 times after reboot disables it. By the way, it was not working on one occasion, but it was fixed by shutting down the computer, removing the power and battery, returning the battery and power, and booting again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500047 Title: trying to connect to wireless network on fresh install of 9.1 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
