Joseph, feels kind'a silly for me to have you building kernels for me to test, so I went ahead and did the bisect myself to save you that time. Making a quick summary of this behavior Kernel <= 3.3 : System is able to successfully resume multiple times. Everything works. 3.4-RC1 : System reboots while trying to resume from *first* suspend 3.4-RC2 -> 3.8 (current): System recovers from first suspend, never recovers from second suspend. 6742259866d03d5bc19815441ba928e8378343dc is the first commit that exhibits the behavior described on this bug. It is necessary for the hypervisor to update these values with uptodate ones before the CPU uses them. Abstract TSC's save/restore sched_clock_state functions and use restore_state to write to KVM_SYSTEM_TIME MSR, forcing an update. [Bug 847691] [NEW] blank external monitor, with no cursor, after login
Public bug reported: I've been using a Twinview (nvidia) setup on kubuntu 11.04 with an external Dell U2410 monitor for a long while without any problems. Something changed recently though (don't know if it was an update), as for today, all I get is a blank screen on the external monitor, no cursor even. I can move windows to the external monitor, but I just can't see them, not even the cursor. The monitor claims it is receiving input (as it would power down if not receiving input), and, when booting/logging in (I have autologin to kde enabled), for a short second I can move the cursor to the external monitor and see e.g. the password dialog box there. It looks as though something disables output to the external monitor quickly after X starts. What could that be? [Bug 847691] Re: blank external monitor, with no cursor, after login
Ah! A suspend to RAM and resume fixed it. (Docked, but that may not have been necessary.) It looks like some stale state somewhere associated with suspending. It is possible that my laptop powered down while in the suspended state just before the problem appearing (I'm not certain). Any idea where could that stale state be? This bug report is about failing to resume from *second* suspension, where I just get with a blank display. In 3.4-rc1 reboots while trying to resume from *first* suspend.
