[Bug 1937869] [NEW] not able to SSH access a server after bridge-utils was removed

2021-07-23 Thread Patricia Domingues
Public bug reported:

I've upgraded a server via `do-release-upgrade` from Ubuntu Bionic to
Focal. It was ENI configured (since Ubuntu 12.04 Precise):

```
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface
iface eth0 inet manual
# The primary bridge interface
auto br0
iface br0 inet static
 address 10.230.71.10
 netmask 255.255.248.0
 gateway 10.230.64.1
 bridge_ports eth0
 dns-nameservers 10.230.64.1
```

and I lost SSH access to the system after the upgrade was completed
because bridge-utils was removed during the last upgrade phase:

```Remove obsolete packages?
187 packages are going to be removed.
...
Removing bridge-utils (1.6-2ubuntu1) ...
```
I think the reason was because `bridge-utils` was automatically installed,
probably via `libvirt-bin`, but is this correct - a automatically package
cleanup happening in an "obsolete removal" phase?

[Bug 1847806] Re: eoan: ppc64el install on pseries-eoan VM fails to install

2019-10-15 Thread Patricia Domingues
In order to check that this issue is limited to qemu emulation.
I've tested ppc64le KVM guests on a ppc64le Ubuntu Eoan (19.10) host on a
POWER9 bare metal - PowerNV 9006-12P.
- Guests: Ubuntu Bionic (18.04); Ubuntu Disco (19.04); Ubuntu Eoan (19.10).
Also tested these guests on a ppc64le Ubuntu Eoan host on a POWER8 bare metal
(host in SMT off mode) - PowerNV 8335-GTA.
I was able to SSH into all guests.

[Bug 1837443] Re: [Power9][Witherspoon dd2.3] unable to set hwclock

2019-09-02 Thread Patricia Domingues
Ok. I was able to reproduce the error and then I've followed the instructions
from comment #2
Step 1 (### With busctl on BMC), but I've got this output:
`An enumeration mapping was attempted for which no valid enumeration value
exists.` which I think it didn't work.

But what I understood from openbmc (and from the command above mentioned) what
was required: changing time owner to SPLIT, which means we are able to set
different time for BMC and host
I managed to change it from BMC System Management Web UI, ran the hwclock
command into host and was able to change it:

`sudo /sbin/hwclock --set --verbose --date "2004/11/22 04:10:00";`
output: https://pastebin.canonical.com/p/Tc4w7573cJ/

`sudo /sbin/hwclock
2004-11-22 04:10:15.457567+00:00
```
After that, I've changed it again with:
`ubuntu@bobone:~$ sudo /sbin/hwclock --systohc`
and then
```
`sudo /sbin/hwclock
2019-09-02 23:04:40.480165+00:00
```
2019-08-30 Thread Patricia Domingues
I think it worth mentioning, as the machine above that we are not able
to deploy Disco is a Gigabyte(gbt-mt30)Cavium ThunderX 88XX, I've
decided to test Disco in other machine, not Gigabyte, but Cavium
ThunderX 88XX(CRB-2s) and I've noticed that in one machine Disco is
successfully deployed and in another it fails. The only difference
between these machines are the disks:
[Bug 1833618] Re: failing to deploy Ubuntu Disco
2019-09-12 Thread Patricia Domingues
Ryan,
Sorry for delay, we had a BMC issue and it required a manual intervention to
fix it.
I've tested Eoan in that machine and it also fails, it doens't show the same
curtin error as Disco shows, but Eoan is not deployed.
It get stuck and MAAS shows `Marking node failed - Node operation 'Deploying'
timed out after 40 minutes.`
Attaching the console log for it (machine nominated as seidel).
Let me know if I can provide any other info.
 and  you do not need to add `subiquity-channel=...` on kernel command line.
[Bug 1888916] [NEW] upgrade from bionic to focal a server with molly-guard moves back sources.list to bionic entries
2020-07-24 Thread Patricia Domingues
Public bug reported:
I've upgraded a server via `do-release-upgrade` from Ubuntu Bionic to
Focal, with molly-guard installed on it - molly-guard configured to
always ask for the hostname.
After it has finished:
```
System upgrade is complete.

Restart required

To finish the upgrade, a restart is required.
If you select 'y' the system will be restarted.

Continue [yN] y
I: molly-guard: reboot is always molly-guarded on this system.
Please type in hostname of the machine to reboot:
Good thing I asked; I won't reboot bates ...

=== Command detached from window (Tue Jul 21 15:23:36 2020) ===

=== Command terminated normally (Tue Jul 21 15:23:46 2020) ===
```
It doesn't alert you it was restoring original state of sources.list.
After rebooting the system and it came back up showing `Welcome to Ubuntu 20.04
LTS`, I've just noticed it was pointing out to bionic instead of focal
installing a package.
[Bug 1888916] Re: upgrade from bionic to focal a server with molly-guard moves back sources.list to bionic entries
2020-08-19 Thread Patricia Domingues
Ok. I see what I might have made wrong: trying to resurrect the session
(pressing 'r')
I was able to reproduce it just this way:
After it asks for upgrade:
```
If you select 'y' the system will be restarted.

Continue [yN] y
I: molly-guard: reboot is always molly-guarded on this system.
Please type in hostname of the machine to reboot:
Good thing I asked; I won't reboot upgteste ...

[Bug 1888916] Re: upgrade from bionic to focal a server with molly-guard moves back sources.list to bionic entries

2020-08-19 Thread Patricia Domingues
Brian, answering comment#18, server upgraded has finished ~ 15h30`:
from logs: `=== Command detached from window (Tue Jul 21 15:23:36 2020) ===`

I just noticed it had bionic entries on sources.list when I was
installing bridge-utils:

```
Start-Date: 2020-07-21  16:28:23
Commandline: apt install bridge-utils
Requested-By: ubuntu (1000)
Install: bridge-utils:amd64 (1.5-15ubuntu1)
End-Date: 2020-07-21  16:28:33
```

This is Bionic version, focal is 1.6-2ubuntu1, so after that I've
replaced `sources.list` suite from bionic to focal.

Hi Waiki, thanks for raising this bug.
Please, could you share a test scenario for the verification of these patches -
how it can be tested? This is needed for every kernel SRU. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1902694] Re: Ubuntu 20.10- Undetected Data corruption in MPI workloads that use VSX for reductions on POWER9 DD2.1 systems

2020-11-03 Thread Patricia Domingues
** Description changed:

- == Comment: #0 - Waiki Wright  - 2020-11-02 17:00:07
- ==
+ SRU Justification:

- ---Problem Description---
+ [Impact]

- A data integrity issue was observed with the Ubuntu 20.04 - 5.4.0-52 and
- 20.10 - 5.8.0-26 kernel on Power 9. The root cause is found in the
- compiling of p9_hmi_special_emu(). When doing a VMX store (in
- __get_user_atomic_128_aligned()) to a buffer (vbuf), the buffer is not
- 128 bit aligned.
+ * A data integrity issue was observed on POWER 9 (DD2.1) systems.

- The fixes of this bug are accepted upstream:
- 1.
-
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/powerpc/linux.git/commit/?h=fixes&id=1da4a0272c5469169f78cd76cf175ff984f52f06
- ("powerpc: Fix undetected data corruption with P9N DD2.1 VSX CI load
emulation")
- 2.
-
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/powerpc/linux.git/commit/?h=fixes&id=d1781f23704707d350b8c9006e2bdf5394bf91b2
- ("selftests/powerpc: Make alignment handler test P9N DD2.1 vector CI load
workaround")
+ * It affects Ubuntu 20.04 with kernel 5.4.0-52 and Ubuntu 20.10 with
+ kernel 5.8.0-26 kernel.
+
+ * The root cause is found in the compiling of p9_hmi_special_emu().
+
+ * When doing a VMX store (in __get_user_atomic_128_aligned()) to a
+ buffer (vbuf), the buffer is not 128 bit aligned.
+
+ [Fix]
+
+ * 1da4a0272c54 "powerpc: Fix undetected data corruption with P9N DD2.1
+ VSX CI load emulation"
+
+ * d1781f237047 "selftests/powerpc: Make alignment handler test P9N DD2.1
+ vector CI load workaround"
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * A POWER 9 (DD2.1) bare metal system is needed that has either Ubuntu
+ 20.04, 20.10 or 21.04 installed.
+
+ * It's best to test this based on a sample application and test case
+ "selftests/powerpc: Make alignment handler test P9N DD2.1 vector CI load
workaround"
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The regression risk is relatively moderate, because:
+
+ * it only happens with special VSX (vector) instructions in use, e.g. in
+ p9_hmi_special_emu
+
+ * it happens on bare metal only and only on POWER 9 (DD2.1)
+
+ * and the changes are very overseeable (in total one effective code line
+ per patch/commit)
+
+ * Since only p9_hmi_special_emu is touched, this will break in case of
+ any regressions, but this is already broken based on this bug.
+
+ [Other]
+
+ * According to the reporter this affects Ubuntu 20.04 / 5.4.0-52 and
+ 20.10 / 5.8.0-26.
+
+ * Since the development of Hirsute is already open the SRU is requested
+ for Hirsute, too.
+
+ * Patches got upstream accepted in v5.10-rc1 and v5.10-rc2.

[Bug 1554198] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 azure instances do not reboot

2016-03-08 Thread Patricia Gaughen
Here's what I'm seeing in my testing (approx 3-4 instances per daily
image):

On instances I deploy with images that are from a daily xenial image
with a serial of 0223.1 or older, I'm seeing normal behavior after 1st
reboot - instance comes back up quickly, I'm able to ssh in and all is
well.

For instances I deploy with images that are from a daily xenial image
with a serial of 0226 or newer (through 0305), after 1st reboot I'm
seeing it take 40+ minutes before the instance is back up (able to ssh
into it). After the 1st reboot, I'm able to 'sudo reboot' and the
instance comes back up quickly.

[Bug 1626436] Re: [4.8 regression] boot has become very slow

2016-09-30 Thread Patricia Gaughen
I marked the "affects me too" button at the top, but just wanted to add
that we're seeing slow boots on EC2 also. With the latest yakkety AMI on
ec2 (ami-1bc5820c, us-east-1, m4.large) first and subsequent boots are
are much slower than expected.

Top 5 in the blame:
$ systemd-analyze blame
 2min 6.384s cloud-init.service
 14.945s cloud-init-local.service
  5.595s keyboard-setup.service
  4.079s dev-xvda1.device
  2.587s cloud-config.service
