[Bug 572962] [NEW] doesn't ask user when quitting with open messages

2010-05-01 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have just switched to Ubuntu 10.04 (from openSUSE-11.1) and I
experience a weird bug with evolution-2.28.3-0ubuntu9.

When opening a new message and not closing it, if I quit the program,
evolution won't ask whether I would like to save the message or not.
Next time I restart evolution, a warning appears if I want to recover
the previous message.

The bug is easily reproducible: compose a new message, quit evolution
without sending or closing the message window, start evolution again.

Could you please check and fix this?

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

[Bug 63996] Re: Istanbul freezes when recording ends with Record Sound

2010-05-01 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
The bug was reported almost four years ago and it affects to 15 people
at least.

Would it be possible to apply the provided patch and release the updated
version?

It might not work for all, but since Istanbul doesn't seem to be
developed further, this is better than nothing.

Thanks for your help,

[Bug 573951] [NEW] xelatex crashes when mag!=1000

2010-05-02 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: texlive-base

Already reported in https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=559257.

Sample code:

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage[a4paper,truedimen,mag=1500]{geometry}
\begin{document}
Hi
\end{document}

When compiling with xelatex, it crashes, since the geometry package
included with TeXLive 2009 (version 4.2) doesn't properly detect the
xetex driver.

Fixed in geometry 5.0, subsequent versions also contain fixes (copied
below).

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

2010-03-13 Release 5.3
  * Fixed missed initialization of \...@lines.

2010-03-01 Release 5.2
  * Fixed a bug that the papersize setting explicitly specified
with \geometry or \usepackage in the preample didn't come to
\newgeometry.
  * Added \mag offset adjustment for \newgeometry.
  * Added 'onecolumn' option as a shorthand for 'twocolumn=false'.
  * Changed the format of the verbose mode.

2010-02-15 Release 5.1
  * Fixed a bug that caused an error in 'pass' option.

[Bug 572962] Re: evolution doesn't ask when quitting with open messages

2010-05-03 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Thanks your help, Sebastien.

I'm new to Ubuntu, but I'm not new to Linux (and FLOSS) and I wonder why
the importance is not normal.

Evolution should prompt the user when exiting with unfinished messages,
as any other application does. I have been using evolution for seven
years and this is the first time it doesn't do what it must.

It is an important bug, since the recovery option is actually designed
for crashes and it doesn't save the whole message (at least not always).

Do you really think that the importance should not be set to normal at
least?

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

[Bug 175644] Re: gutsy: URW Garamond TeX tfm file installs, but font cannot be used

2010-05-08 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
This issue is almost three years old and it wasn't a bug.

URW Garamond is not included in TeXLive, since its license doesn't allow
commercial distribution (http://www.latex-
community.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=3778).

There is a command that solves this: "getnonfreefonts-sys -a" (or
"getnonfreefonts -a" if you don't want system-wide modifications).

The issue should be closed (I have tagged it as invalid), but TeXLive
should enable a way to display this info when a the users tries to
deploy one of these fonts.

I hope it helps,

[Bug 572962] Re: evolution doesn't ask when quitting with open messages

2010-05-05 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
As you can see in the attached bug report, it seems to be a bug when
quitting evolution with unfinished messages that crashes the program,
but since Ubuntu 10.04 doesn't provide Bug Buddy, the user doesn't
notice that the program crashed.

In order to be able to check this I had to download the latest stable
releases from Mandriva and openSUSE and run them live.

I hope it helps,

[Bug 584525] [NEW] [X1400] random crash when loading the X server

2010-05-23 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I used other distributions (Mandriva and openSUSE) with the radeonhd
driver, but after I switched to Ubuntu 10.04, I experience random X
crashes when the video driver is loaded. All I get is a black screen
with some random red points at the first lines. I have to restart by
turning off the computer and turning on again.

I guess that this is caused by the radeon video driver. Since I had to
restart the computer, I have no /var/log/Xorg.0.log to append, since the
new one doesn't reflect the crash. I'm not able to provide a full
backtrace, because "ulimit -c" was set to 0 (and I wonder whether this
setting will support a system restart).

Driver version is:

  xserver-xorg-video-ati:
Installed: 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5
Candidate: 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5

And Ubuntu version is:

  Description: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
  Release: 10.04

Is there anything else I need to report the crash? (I don't mind
reporting the bug myself upstream.)

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

[Bug 584525] Re: [X1400] random crash when loading the X server

2010-05-23 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Hi Bruce,

thanks for your fast reply.

Sorry, but I'm afraid I haven't expressed myself accurately.

The issue doesn't appear every time I boot the system (it seems totally
random, at least to me) and the computer is totally unresponsive, so I
cannot run any command then.

And I guess that if I run when I restart the computer, the files
collected by apport-collect might be the wrong ones, since the reboot is
fine.

Could you confirm this?

Thanks,

Pablo

[Bug 584525] Re: [X1400] random crash when loading the X server

2010-05-23 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
Hi Bruce,

I have experienced another crash. I'm attaching the Xorg.0.log file, but
I'm afraid it might be the previous one, since the crash happened less
than 20 minutes ago and last modification from this file was almost 8
hours ago.

Sorry, I have realized that I don't know how I copied the Xorg.0.log
file to the USB memory with Slax, but I'm afraid it is not there. Just
in case it might help, I attach Xorg.0.log.old.

I have tried to get a «post mortem» (or «post crashem» ;-)) backtrace,
but I'm afraid I cannot get rid of ulimit -c 0.

I have added the following uncommented line to
/etc/security/limits.conf:

roothardcoreunlimited

But ulimit -c in root is set to 0. This is why I cannot provide a
retrospective backtrace.

How can I get core files for the root?

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

[Bug 63996] Re: Istanbul freezes when recording ends with Record Sound

Sorry for my previous comment, since I thought the patch wasn't applied.

There seems to be a new patch against CVS head, that might fix the

with version from Ubuntu 10.04.

[Bug 567029] Re: Login failure loop with Ubuntu 10.04

2010-05-13 Thread Pablo Rodríguez
I suffer the same problem with Ubuntu 10.04 (32 bit and already
installed).

I get the login dialog, but when I press the login button, X is
restarted and I get the login dialog again (up to the sixth of seventh
time, that only the login dialog disappears and only the background is
displayed [no X server restart]).

I don't know how it happened, but it might be due to an upgrade.

Which files are needed? I mean also directories.

Is there a workaround not to start X, login and then start X?

Thanks for your help,

Pablo

(BTW, the importance should be set to critical, since the system is
unusable.)

[Bug 1596381] Re: [X555UA, Realtek ALC256, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2020-02-21 Thread Pablo Rodríguez Guillén
I have the same problem on my Asus Zenbook UX430UA (Realtek ALC295)
although I have "5.3.0-40-generic" linux kernel version with Ubuntu
18.04. Comment #8 solved my problem but with "options snd-hda-intel
model=laptop-dmic" in my alsa conf, up and down volume don't change the
speakers volume.

I can only mute the speakers with 0 volume, but I get the same volume
level with 1% volume than the one I get with 100%

With "options snd-hda-intel model=auto" or "options snd-hda-intel
model=alc295" I get the expected behaviour from the speakers but no
record of the internal microphone. I have already tried combining
auto/alc295 with laptop-dmic but I get the behaviour of the first option
I write (like as it were alone)

I thought this was fixed, maybe I am doing something wrong.

[Bug 1596381] Re: [X555UA, Realtek ALC256, Mic, Internal] No sound at all

2020-02-22 Thread Pablo Rodríguez Guillén
I have the same problem on Asus Zenbook UX430UA (Realtek ALC295) in
Ubuntu 18.04 with 5.3.0-40-generic linux kernel version.

Comment #8 fix's worked for me but now I get the same volume level from
my laptop speakers with 1% volume level, than the one I get with 100%
volume level. The only thing that I can change from volume controls is
that with 0% volume level, the speakers are muted.

I have tried with "options snd-hda-intel model=auto,laptop-dmic" but I
get the expected behaviour with model=auto (speakers works great but no
audio recording from laptop microphone). With "options snd-hda-intel
model=laptop-dmic,auto" I get the same behaviour that the one I get with
"model=laptop-dmic" only (microphone working but volume control doing
nothing).

I thought this was fixed, but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

2020-02-22 Thread Pablo Rodríguez Guillén
I was able to solve the control volume thing but the root problem still
there. If someone gets to this point I will show you my solution.

I realized (in alsamixer) that I was able to change the speakers volume
controlling PCM device instead of Master one. So I searched about that
and found that you can make pulseaudio to control another device. All
the information is in here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/15069/how-
do-i-change-the-way-ubuntu-adjusts-my-volume-mixer-levels

However, I think this should be fixed. Thank you for your help ^^
