[Bug 283759] Re: rt73usb intrepid 8.10 beta -- wireless connection periodically lost; must restart driver
Ignore previous comment. It's early days yet, but installing "linux-backports-modules-[kernel version here]-generic" package from my package manager appears to have solved this. I use Skype daily and prior to this was unable to carry on a conversation without the internet disconnecting partway through - now for two days running I have had no problem with this and was even able to stream live video whilst Skyping last night with no connection loss (although it didn't do the Skype call much good!).# Like I said, early days, but thank you joshyg6. -- rt73usb intrepid 8.10 beta -- wireless connection periodically lost; must restart driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/283759 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

By 'versionname' do you mean the current version of the drivers? Sorry, but how would I find that? [Bug 290931] [NEW] KDE 4.1 widgets too large; eg clock takes up entire panel
Public bug reported: No package hint given because I'm not sure, but my guess would be that the problem is either in kdebase-plasma or kdeplasma-addons. I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 beta with all the latest updates and whatnot. A (seemingly) unrelated attempt to start wineconsole with incorrect syntax seems to have been the trigger for something - the display dissolved into colours for a bit, and now my panel won't fit plasmoids properly - while the icons appear the usual size, the space they take up is huge, and can't be resized. For instance, the clock takes up almost the entire panel by itself, meaning I have no room for anything else if I want it. The system tray and task managers have a similar effect. I've tried uninstalling the entire kubuntu-desktop package and reinstalling it, but the only effect this has had is to disappear the desktop folder view... I don't know what to give you as technical info, but ask and ye shall receive - Thanks, Owen ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- KDE 4.1 widgets too large; eg clock takes up entire panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290931 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290931] Re: KDE 4.1 widgets too large; eg clock takes up entire panel
Afraid not - I've tried adding and removing all the widgets, but my problem is that some of them take up more space than they need to - a slightly dodgy illustration would be that the system tray is this big |--| but it takes up this much space on the panel (which, when moving it, can be seen as a highlighted space around it) || The clock's even worse. At the moment I've got an application launcher, task manager and system tray which work together fairly happily, but I have no space to add anything else. -- KDE 4.1 widgets too large; eg clock takes up entire panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290931 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 290931] Re: KDE 4.1 widgets too large; eg clock takes up entire panel
** Description changed: No package hint given because I'm not sure, but my guess would be that the problem is either in kdebase-plasma or kdeplasma-addons. I've tried uninstalling the entire kubuntu-desktop package and reinstalling it, but the only effect this has had is to disappear the desktop folder view... I don't know what to give you as technical info, but ask and ye shall receive - Thanks, Owen + + Update: The display disruption which started it all has been continuing + - it seems to be linked to use of the terminal in some way. It's making + KDE hard to use for any length of time, and this combined with some + problems with Ubuntu Studio have persuaded me to change to Gnome. + + If all goes well with that I may remove KDE completely - I don't know if it's worth leaving this here (I know one other person on the internet had the same problem, but that's all I could find) or removing it. + Not the most helpful approach, I know, but if my display is going to dissolve into colours regularly I can't get any work done on here - I tried to take a screenshot with KSnapshot but it either disappears completely or worsens so I can't see the program at all. -- KDE 4.1 widgets too large; eg clock takes up entire panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290931 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 204345] Re: [hardy] [amd64] system sounds and flash sound output are redirected to the wrong sound card
So I'm late to the party but for posterity's sake, I fixed this by adding option snd_hda_intel index=-2 (where snd_hda_intel is the name of my internal sound card, which I want to use for capture but not for playback) to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base, and commenting out the similar line which applied to my USB sound device. Jan, you mentioned that you'd tried giving the new soundcard a lower priority, so maybe this didn't work for you but I thought I should record it here just in case. [Bug 174214] Re: [Hardy] xserver-xorg can't generate configuration file
I can confirm this, I'm using the 32 bit release of Hardy on an AMD64 machine (software problems, my computer doesn't work much differently on 64-bit anyway) and I've had the same problem. Fixed my screen resolution but thought I should mention it - I'm using the Nvidia restricted driver like James but VESA gave me the same problem. -Thanks, Owen -- [Hardy] xserver-xorg can't generate configuration file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/174214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 38131] Re: Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage
I can confirm this in the recent release of Firefox 4. As Steve mentioned, it's easily reproducible simply by performing a Google Image search. This causes high CPU usage from the X server and on my computer at least, the display temporarily freezes. I'm running Arch Linux, with an Nvidia 8200M (notebook) video card. If I can help by providing more information, please just ask. This has basically made Firefox unusable for me (so I'm posting from Chromium). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/38131 Title: Firefox causes massive Xorg CPU usage -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
