[Bug 250969] [NEW] reportbug can't get past restrictive ISPs
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: reportbug Reportbug tries to make a direct SMTP connection to a machine in the ubuntu.com domain. This strategy is destined to fail when behind restrictive ISPs such as verizon and comcast, which block outgoing smtp connections to all servers other than their own. Ubuntu badly needs a central mail configuration for outgoing mail, which can be shared among reportbug, evolution, Thunderbird, and any other application that wishes to send mail (e.g., sendmail). Perhaps postfix or exim could be adapted for this purpose, or perhaps a lightweight solution customized to Ubuntu would be better. But information about accessible SMTP servers and about authentication should be centralized. ** Affects: reportbug (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: grave -- reportbug can't get past restrictive ISPs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250969 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 250971] [NEW] talkd uses obsolete /etc/inetd.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: talkd Two problems: 1. The talkd package puts its inetd info into /etc/inetd.conf instead of /etc/inetd.conf.d 2. The info itself is incorrectly formatted for the inetd that talkd depends on: talkd is using a 'user.group' format and inet expects user only. I also vaguely remember a permissions problem but I can't be sure of it. ** Affects: netkit-ntalk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: grave -- talkd uses obsolete /etc/inetd.conf https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250971 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 250975] [NEW] ytalk hangs waiting for 'invitation on caller's machine'
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ytalk After working around bug in talkd, I attempted to use ytalk between two local users on the same machine. Both instances of ytalk hang 'waiting for invitation on caller's machine'. I first encountered this bug in the early 1990s; it is discouraging to see it again. It may be worth noting that ytalk 3.3.0-5 works perfectly on Debian lenny/sid, so it may be that if the talkd problems are cleared up this bug will go away. ** Affects: ytalk (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- ytalk hangs waiting for 'invitation on caller's machine' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250975 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Setting options nvidia NVreg_EnableMSI=0 seems to help *sometimes*. Once I get a better handle on the problem, I will file a proper bug report with Debian and will cross-list it. [Bug 792315] Re: screen tearing during video in unity 2d (but not ubuntu classic)
I have a similar problem using Unity2D. My machine was built to be a low-end HTPC with all the computation in the graphics card. I got excellent results with 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Upgrading to 12.04 has shown a *substantial* tearing problem using either mplayer or mplayer2 with vdpau and proprietary Nvidia drivers. The hardware in question is an AMD Sempron(tm) 140 Processor with an Nvidia GeForce 210 graphics card. I will run apport collect to provide more information. ** Tags added: precise -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/792315 Title: screen tearing during video in unity 2d (but not ubuntu classic) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/792315/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
