[Bug 366109] [NEW] no taskbars after login, only desktop appears
Public bug reported: I've recentry upgraded my Dell Inspiron Mini 9 from the Dell-supplied Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 (by downloading the Netbook remix image from the Ubuntu website). After initially restarting to complete the installation, it worked fine. I switched to the 'classic' desktop mode. Now, when I turn the computer on again, after I've logged in, I only get the desktop: no taskbars. I can still open the sole icon on my desktop (install_flash_player_10_linux.deb) and I can "change desktop background", but other than that, I can't do much without the taskbars. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- no taskbars after login, only desktop appears https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366109 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 366109] Re: no taskbars after login, only desktop appears
Great idea! Your desktop-switcher launcher idea worked, however, only temporarily. Once I've booted into the panel-less desktop and used the desktop switcher to switch to the netbook remix interface, it was fine at first. If I switch back into classic desktop then it loads part of the top bar, but not the whole lot (it seems to only be the part of the taskbar that's present in the netbook remix interface, except that it has changed to the correct colour!) However, when I then switch back into the netbook remix interface, it looks fine but I get an error: "An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for netbook-launcher. Some of your configuration settings may not work properly." and clicking the details button gives me "Failed to contact configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details - 1: Could not send message to gconf daemon: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus))". Now if I switch back to classic desktop the taskbars disappear again and my home folder randomly opens. Next, when I switch back to the netbook remix interface then there is no taskbar at the top (but I still have the netbook-remixy bit covering the rest of the screen). However, if I restart the computer from the classic interface then the same problem happens. However, if I switch to the netbook remix interface (with the taskbars working) and reboot from there then when it starts up again I get the netbook remix interface without the top taskbar. But if I then switch to the classic interface, I get the desktop but with the top taskbar from the netbook remix interface! (but the correct grey colour). However, rebooting now gives me the taskbar- less desktop. This seems to be really wierd and buggy behaivour! Any more help would be greatly appreciated. [Bug 74703] Re: There is no way to install .pdb .prc files
I had the same problem as the OP on Hardy Heron. In my case it was fixed by setting the User ID on the Palm (which had been "0" when I was getting the errors). By the time I had got it working, I had set the User Name too, which may or may not be relevant. Now the User ID is set, I can drag files onto the applet, which are then installed at the next synchronize. -- There is no way to install .pdb .prc files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/74703 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 240537] Re: Problems with licd.conf.atilibusb (Snapstream X10)
Sorry about the delay on this... But I just installed Intrepid. The bug persisted, so I removed every remote, one at a time, until only the Firefly was left. Each time I removed one, I restarted lirc. The remote did not work in any way (via irw) until it was completely alone in the file. Assuming it was the first item (ATI something or other) I removed that one, and put the everything else back. Fail. For whatever reason the Snapstream must be at the top of the file. If you put it below _anything_ it will fail. It works fine if other items are below it... though, I couldn't say how they fair, as this is the only remote I own. UNRELATED: Lastly, I straightened out the code, because I thought it might be causing the issue (However unlikely, I thought I'd turnover every rock.) [Bug 94939] Re: [fiesty] Deskbar does not allow placement of actions tab.
I've attached a screenshot to better illustrate my point. If you look at it, you will see that the results from several different plug-ins (in this case, Programs, Dictionary, and Search Files and Folders) are all being shown in one category, "Actions". Now, personally, I would like the results from the History plug-in to be the bottom-most, because chances are if I used it before, I'm going to want to use it again instead of those programs I've never selected (if I clicked on Root Terminal, for example, from the Deskbar, it would stop being in the Actions-Programs section and move to the History section with the Terminal). Naturally, in my settings, the History plug-in is listed first, and all the ones that appear in the Actions tab are listed at various later positions. But I'm not really saying that History should _always_ be first (though if it was, I personally, would not object); but ideally, I think that moving the Actions tab should be an option, like the rest of the plug- ins. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot." http://librarian.launchpad.net/7219246/Screenshot-deskbar-applet.png -- [fiesty] Deskbar does not allow placement of actions tab. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/94939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It would be nice if as svaens said 'users can choose another alternative application to provide the same functionality' but for me, k3b makes coasters, all is fine until finalise (which it tries to do in 4 seconds) which fails, and no the disk is not readable. GnomeBaker intermittently makes coasters (reason unknown), the solution which is pretty much gauranteed to work for me, is as I have previously mentioned, (code)cdrecord -v -dao dev=1,1,0 /directory/filename.iso(end code) dev=1,1,0 is where my dvd burner lives, to find yours do, (code)cdrecord -scanbus(end code) the finalise works and takes about 19 seconds. -- brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I temporarily enabled system->administration->software sources->updates tab Proposed updates (Lucid updates) And downloaded just brasero 2.30.1-0ubuntu2 and brasero-common 2.30.1-0ubuntu2 CD's burn OK haven't tried DVD's yet though. -- brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)
Hi cdir, Are you referring to updating cdrdao 1.2.2 to cdrdao 1.2.3? Beacause on my lucid with cdrdao 1.2.2 brasero can produce images of all cd/dvd media types but can not burn them, (been using cdrecord in a terminal for that). After updating to cdrdao 1.2.3 I still couldn't burn with brasero, but also brasero would no longer produce bin cue's from audio cd's so reverted back to cdrdao 1.2.2 and it then made bin cue image files. This issue is far from fixed. -- brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/529696 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
