[Bug 317094] Re: evtouch meta bug to collect lshal info

No luck with Amit's proposed solution. Usbtouchscreen wasn't an listed.

I have a CLT Intel Classmate 2 Go netbook.

A touch registers as a click at the location where the mouse is on the
screen.

No, it's not still an issue for me; and I think it was an upstream issue
anyways. And they're redoing that section of code regardless, unless I'm
mistaken.

[Bug 366109] [NEW] no taskbars after login, only desktop appears

2009-04-24 Thread Neil
Public bug reported:

I've recentry upgraded my Dell Inspiron Mini 9 from the Dell-supplied
Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04 (by downloading the Netbook
remix image from the Ubuntu website). After initially restarting to
complete the installation, it worked fine. I switched to the 'classic'
desktop mode. Now, when I turn the computer on again, after I've logged
in, I only get the desktop: no taskbars. I can still open the sole icon
on my desktop (install_flash_player_10_linux.deb) and I can "change
desktop background", but other than that, I can't do much without the
taskbars.

[Bug 366109] Re: no taskbars after login, only desktop appears

2009-04-24 Thread Neil
Great idea! Your desktop-switcher launcher idea worked, however, only
temporarily. Once I've booted into the panel-less desktop and used the
desktop switcher to switch to the netbook remix interface, it was fine
at first. If I switch back into classic desktop then it loads part of
the top bar, but not the whole lot (it seems to only be the part of the
taskbar that's present in the netbook remix interface, except that it
has changed to the correct colour!) However, when I then switch back
into the netbook remix interface, it looks fine but I get an error: "An
error occurred while loading or saving configuration information for
netbook-launcher. Some of your configuration settings may not work
properly." and clicking the details button gives me "Failed to contact
configuration server; some possible causes are that you need to enable
TCP/IP networking for ORBit, or you have stale NFS locks due to a system
crash. See http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/ for information. (Details -
1: Could not send message to gconf daemon: Message did not receive a
reply (timeout by message bus))". Now if I switch back to classic
desktop the taskbars disappear again and my home folder randomly opens.
Next, when I switch back to the netbook remix interface then there is no
taskbar at the top (but I still have the netbook-remixy bit covering the
rest of the screen).

However, if I restart the computer from the classic interface then the
same problem happens. However, if I switch to the netbook remix
interface (with the taskbars working) and reboot from there then when it
starts up again I get the netbook remix interface without the top
taskbar. But if I then switch to the classic interface, I get the
desktop but with the top taskbar from the netbook remix interface! (but
the correct grey colour). However, rebooting now gives me the taskbar-
less desktop.

This seems to be really wierd and buggy behaivour!

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Neil

[Bug 74703] Re: There is no way to install .pdb .prc files

2008-10-18 Thread Neil
I had the same problem as the OP on Hardy Heron. In my case it was
fixed by setting the User ID on the Palm (which had been "0" when I was
getting the errors). By the time I had got it working, I had set the
User Name too, which may or may not be relevant. Now the User ID is
set, I can drag files onto the applet, which are then installed at the
next synchronize.

[Bug 240537] Re: Problems with licd.conf.atilibusb (Snapstream X10)

2008-11-08 Thread Neil
Sorry about the delay on this... But I just installed Intrepid.

The bug persisted, so I removed every remote, one at a time, until only the
Firefly was left.
Each time I removed one, I restarted lirc. The remote did not work in any way
(via irw) until it was completely alone in the file.

Assuming it was the first item (ATI something or other) I removed that
one, and put the everything else back. Fail.

For whatever reason the Snapstream must be at the top of the file.
If you put it below _anything_ it will fail.

It works fine if other items are below it... though, I couldn't say how
they fair, as this is the only remote I own.

UNRELATED:
Lastly, I straightened out the code, because I thought it might be causing the
issue (However unlikely, I thought I'd turnover every rock.)
It wasn't the issues, but I'm attaching it anyways, because it looks awful
compared to the neatness of all the other remotes.

[Bug 240537] Re: Problems with licd.conf.atilibusb (Snapstream X10)

2008-09-23 Thread Neil
I'm sorry, I thought I had posted back.

The conf.atiusb in Intrepid uses entirely different codes for the
Snapstream. I don't have anything to install Intrepid on, and have no
idea how to pass a USB remote through VirtualBox. That version of the
conf might have even solved the bug.

The best I could do is identify the defective remove in Hardy... But I
don't have the old lircd.conf.atiusb.

[Bug 385056] [NEW] Built-in keyboard stops working after resume on Sony VAIO VGN-CS26

2009-06-08 Thread Neil
Public bug reported:

mari...@vivaldi:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
mari...@vivaldi:~$ uname -r
2.6.28-11-generic

When the laptop starts from cold, the built-in keyboard works as
expected. After suspend to RAM and resume, everything else comes back
fine except that the built-in keyboard doesn't work at all. A USB
keyboard works when plugged in, although the built-in keyboard is still
dead at this stage. If "i8042.debug" is on the kernel command line then
pressing keys on the built-in keyboard produces kernel debugging output
even though the keyboard still doesn't work either in X or on the
console.

[Bug 94939] Re: [fiesty] Deskbar does not allow placement of actions tab.

2007-04-08 Thread Neil
I've attached a screenshot to better illustrate my point.

If you look at it, you will see that the results from several different
plug-ins (in this case, Programs, Dictionary, and Search Files and
Folders) are all being shown in one category, "Actions". Now,
personally, I would like the results from the History plug-in to be the
bottom-most, because chances are if I used it before, I'm going to want
to use it again instead of those programs I've never selected (if I
clicked on Root Terminal, for example, from the Deskbar, it would stop
being in the Actions-Programs section and move to the History section
with the Terminal). Naturally, in my settings, the History plug-in is
listed first, and all the ones that appear in the Actions tab are listed
at various later positions.

But I'm not really saying that History should _always_ be first (though
if it was, I personally, would not object); but ideally, I think that
moving the Actions tab should be an option, like the rest of the plug-
ins.

[Bug 90652] custom reply headers cause Thunderbird to crash

2007-03-08 Thread Neil
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

When changing "mailnews.reply_header_ondate" to "On %a, %d  %b  %Y

Thunderbird crashes.

Tested on Thunderbird version 1.5.0.10 (20070306), on Ubuntu 6.10 (x86).

Suggestions:
1. If a bad format is given, Thunderbird should switch to default.

[Bug 85776] Re: [apport] gnome-panel crashed with SIGSEGV on package installation, valgrind log required

2007-03-18 Thread Neil
Happened here too, just now (installing Seahorse, and it's dependency,
libgpgme11).

Didn't happen when I was installing everything else though (I installed
probably upwards of a hundred or more packages yesterday, not counting
their dependencies).

As of right now:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -l | grep "gnome-panel"
ii  gnome-panel2.18.0-0ubuntu2
  launcher and docking facility for GNOME 2
ii  gnome-panel-data   2.18.0-0ubuntu2
  common files for GNOME 2 panel

Hope it helps.

Oh, yeah, I can definitely reproduce it...I've not used Filezilla once
successfully, and I've tried more than once.

Don't know what a "UVFe" is.

I'll check it when the next version comes out.

2010-05-01 Thread Neil
Hi
Sorry this more just a question
I have been having same/similar problem, Firefox most of the time.. times
out... some times I can get google and even use it to search but never go to a
web page. and the problem is with Thunderbird also, can not get emails only
occasionally, it too times out.
am I the only one with this, is this all related with the ipv6?
O I can use google chrome and Opera with no problems, just Firefox is a problem
if that is any help to anyone.
I have the problem with the bata (Which I did te upgrade) and the official
release.
 again sorry I have no real input, but getting very frustrated with it.

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-05-21 Thread Neil
It would be nice if as svaens said 'users can choose another
alternative application to provide the same functionality' but for me,
k3b makes coasters, all is fine until finalise (which it tries to do in
4 seconds) which fails, and no the disk is not readable.

GnomeBaker intermittently makes coasters (reason unknown), the solution
which is pretty much gauranteed to work for me, is as I have previously
mentioned, (code)cdrecord -v -dao dev=1,1,0 /directory/filename.iso(end
code) dev=1,1,0 is where my dvd burner lives, to find yours do,
(code)cdrecord -scanbus(end code) the finalise works and takes about 19
seconds.

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-05-21 Thread Neil
For anyone who is new to Ubuntu (linux) and reading this, what should be
copy/pasted are the characters between the (code)(end code) delimiters.

the results of 'cdrecord -scanbus' (not including the ' marks) in my terminal
are:
scsibus1:
1,0,0   100) 'HITACHI ' 'DVD-ROM GD-2500 ' 'A012' Removable CD-ROM
1,1,0   101) 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVD-RAM GH22LP20' '1.04' Removable CD-ROM
1,2,0   102) *
1,3,0   103) *
1,4,0   104) *
1,5,0   105) *
1,6,0   106) *
1,7,0   107) *

On my system HL-DT-ST is in fact, a 4 week old, new LG burner, so figure
out the corecty one for you, from your results of 'cdrecord -scanbus'
and edit your command so as to point to the right device.

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-05-29 Thread Neil
Hi bombar070,

I had tried just cdrdao_1.2.3 which worsened things (see post 48) and
reverted back to cdrdao_1.2.2.

I temporarily enabled system->administration->software sources->updates
tab Proposed updates (Lucid updates)

And downloaded just brasero 2.30.1-0ubuntu2 and brasero-common
2.30.1-0ubuntu2

CD's burn OK haven't tried DVD's yet though.

[Bug 529696] Re: brasero can't copy audio cd (useless error message)

2010-05-25 Thread Neil
Hi cdir,

Are you referring to updating cdrdao 1.2.2 to cdrdao 1.2.3? Beacause on
my lucid with cdrdao 1.2.2 brasero can produce images of all cd/dvd
media types but can not burn them, (been using cdrecord in a terminal
for that).

After updating to cdrdao 1.2.3 I still couldn't burn with brasero, but
also brasero would no longer produce bin cue's from audio cd's so
reverted back to cdrdao 1.2.2 and it then made bin cue image files.

This issue is far from fixed.

[Bug 255768] Re: evolution asking for a password, even though it should be remembered

2010-03-11 Thread Neil
Same issue on Karmic with evolution, in my case all worked flawlessly
until inadvertently clicking hibernate, from which my pc would not wake
from and a hard reset to restart karmic, this was the start of the
problem for me.

The relevant keys and their passwords for their mail accounts exist in
seahorse until evolution is started, when intermittently either the key
or sometimes just the password component are deleted from seahorse.

[Bug 1760375] [NEW] cgroup blkio throttle does not work on root group

2018-03-31 Thread Neil
Public bug reported:

from kernel document,
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/cgroup-v1/blkio-controller.txt
```
Throttling/Upper Limit policy
-
- Enable Block IO controller
CONFIG_BLK_CGROUP=y
- Enable throttling in block layer
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_THROTTLING=y
- Mount blkio controller (see cgroups.txt, Why are cgroups needed?)
mount -t cgroup -o blkio none /sys/fs/cgroup/blkio
- Specify a bandwidth rate on particular device for root group. The format
  for policy is ":  ".
echo "8:16  1048576" >
/sys/fs/cgroup/blkio/blkio.throttle.read_bps_device
  Above will put a limit of 1MB/second on reads happening for root group
  on device having major/minor number 8:16.
- Run dd to read a file and see if rate is throttled to 1MB/s or not.
# dd iflag=direct if=/mnt/common/zerofile of=/dev/null bs=4K count=1024
1024+0 records in
1024+0 records out
4194304 bytes (4.2 MB) copied, 4.0001 s, 1.0 MB/s
 Limits for writes can be put using blkio.throttle.write_bps_device file.
```

tested with ubuntu 16.04(xenial) and seems throttle not working, but on
my virtual machine, ubuntu 14.04(trusty) works.

```
[Bug 1760375] Re: cgroup blkio throttle does not work on root group
2018-04-02 Thread Neil
same phenomenon after update latest v4.16 kernel.
this should have concern with systemd-logind.service, tasks have been added
into session cgroup.
root@i-dztv2guv:~# cat /proc/$(pidof dd)/cgroup | grep blkio
6:blkio:/user.slice/user-0.slice/session-1.scope
I can throttle for this single session, but it is impossible to throttle
for all sessions, is there anyway to disable it?
[Bug 1761114] [NEW] systemd build error on aarch64 with "Failed to parse personality, ignoring: x86"
2018-04-04 Thread Neil
Public bug reported:
download source code from
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/229-4ubuntu21,
build with `dpkg-buildpackage` on aarch64, and build break with the following
messages:
```
+ test /tmp/test-exec_workingdirectory = /tmp/test-exec_workingdirectory
  2
[/root/neil/systemd/test/systemd-229.orig/test/test-execute/exec-personality-x86.service:7]
 Failed to parse personality, ignoring: x86
  3 + uname -m
  4 + c=aarch64
  5 + test aarch64 = i686
  6 exec-personality-x86.service: Main process exited, code=exited,
status=1/FAILURE
  7 exec-personality-x86.service: Unit entered failed state.
  8 exec-personality-x86.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
  9 Assertion 'service->main_exec_status.status == status_expected' failed at
../src/test/test-execute.c:65, function check(). Aborting.
```
it should run into x86 test case with:
```
87  static void test_exec_personality(Manager *m) {
88  #if defined(__x86_64__)
89  test(m, "exec-personality-x86-64.service", 0, CLD_EXITED);
90
91  #elif defined(__s390__)
92  test(m, "exec-personality-s390.service", 0, CLD_EXITED);
93
94  #else
95  test(m, "exec-personality-x86.service", 0, CLD_EXITED);
96  #endif
97  }
```
after checked upstream systemd source code,
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/12591863 will fix it.
is this patch already applied? or I get invalid build steps on aarch64?
[Bug 1761114] Re: systemd build error on aarch64 with "Failed to parse personality, ignoring: x86"
2018-04-04 Thread Neil
I am taking some features off on systemd, so i have to rebuild systemd package.
Yes, I am building as root, and after pull the latest release and checked the
source code,
I think this issue still exists.
verified, build failed with version 229-4ubuntu21.2.
I was built with the command:
# dpkg-buildpackage -j4
I have passed the build with the commit mentioned on my aarch64 machine,
if build command is right, it is fine for me.
[Bug 1797669] [NEW] tc filter add after delete get error "No space left on device"
2018-10-12 Thread Neil
Public bug reported:
tc filter seems still leak with ubuntu kernel 4.15.0-36-generic,
it can be reproduced with the following steps.
```
tc qdisc add dev eth0 ingress
tc filter add dev eth0 ingress protocol ip prio 1 handle 800::1 u32 match ip
dst 192.168.5.113/32 police rate 10Mbit burst 10Mbit mtu 64kb drop flowid :1
tc filter add dev eth0 ingress protocol ip prio 1 handle 800::2 u32 match ip
dst 192.168.5.46/32 police rate 10Mbit burst 10Mbit mtu 64kb drop flowid :1
tc filter del dev eth0 ingress protocol ip prio 1 handle 800::1 u32 match ip

dst 192.168.5.113/32 police rate 10Mbit burst 10Mbit mtu 64kb drop flowid :1
```
the last command will get this error
```
RTNETLINK answers: No space left on device
We have an error talking to the kernel
```
upstream 4.15(eol) also have this issue, but 4.16.2 fixed, and ubuntu 4.15.0-36
already patched upstream 4.16.2 fix patch.
however this issue still exist, I think the difference between 4.15 and 4.16
caused this issue.
please kindly help check it.
Thanks.
