[Bug 395239] Re: [karmic] 2.6.31 kernel does not load custom DSDT

2010-04-05 Thread Naoyuki Tai
I hit this issue with ABIT's IL-90MV motherboard. SSDT table is totally busted,
and with this obsolete hardware, there is very little chance that the BIOS is
updated.
_PST in SSDT has the wrong CPU frequencies and voltage IDs. My 2GHz CPU is
showing that the max CPU speed is 1.2GHz.
I did send a "tech support" request to the ABIT.com.tw that Linux does not work
too well with such BIOS.
I am hoping that it's fixed in the future, but it's very unlikely because ABIT
is not going to make any money fixing the problem.

Meanwhile, there is not much I can do but to get out from Karmic.
Very sad.

[Bug 246222] Re: Linux 2.6.26 not loading custom DSDT from initrd

which in turn forces users to recompile kernel for the patched DSDT. One way or
the other, the stated kernel team's goal would not be fulfilled.
Users who need to override DSDT are forced to now recompile kernel for every
kernel update.
Also users who knows how to patch DSDT should be assumed that they know what
they are doing in the first place. (I certainly do.)

Unless you have a gobs of money to buy your hardware any time you want or
influence the manufacturer, you'd be stuck with bad DSDT implementation of your
computers.
I guess Linux kernel team got too rich and forgot that there are normal people
who is using older computers.

[Bug 1007273] Re: autofs does not start automatically after reboot

2016-01-15 Thread Naoyuki Tai
I'm a software developer, and my office uses NIS and autofs. Everyone
gets RHEL if I let my IT dept. installs, but I chose to install Ubuntu
Mate 14.04 LTS by myself.

I must tell you I'm having a hell of a time. First off, when I
misconfigured /etc/yp.conf, the upstart hangs. I had to boot up the live
CD many times to trouble shoot. Finally I got it sorted out.

Then, autofs does not work with NIS. I'm letting my IT install RHEL.

[Bug 1392806] [NEW] NFS server fails to export XFS volume directory

2014-11-14 Thread Naoyuki Tai
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 14.04.01 LTS, x86-64.
Linux akhenaten 3.13.0-39-generic #66-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 28 13:30:27 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

On this machine, "/var" volume is formatted with XFS. XFS is formatted
during the installation of Xubuntu.

/etc/exports has an entry to export "/var/www":
/var/www 192.168.10.0/24(rw,sync,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check,insecure)

The Linux NFS client can mount the NFS export but trying to access it returns
an error. (And incorrect message of it.)
mount akhenaten:/var/www /mnt/www
ls /mnt/www

This does not work. I have tried a few variations, and this is what I know.
(1) If you export the root of XFS volume ("/var" this case), it works.
(2) If you create a direcotry such as /exports/www, use "mount -o bind" to bind
/var/www with /exports/www and export it, the client times out.
(3) If the file system is EXT4, the NFS export works. (I copied the XFS /var to
another disk with EXT4 formatted volume, changed /etc/fstab and rebooted,
without any other changes.)

[Bug 689221] Re: No DVI output on Intel 82G33/G31 in Maverick

2012-11-23 Thread Naoyuki Tai
I have the same issue.
My machine is not a laptop but uses mobile CPU.
With Precise, VGA works but DVI and HDMI do not work.

I know the machine worked just fine with Lucid.
So, I downgraded xorg to Lucid. It does not fix the problem.
I brought back xorg to Precise.
I also tried the tip of xorg from PPA and did not fix the issue.

Then, I downgraded kernel to Lucid.
That fixed the DVI output.
Kernel that works is 2.6.32-33-generic. 3.2.0-xx-generic deos not work.

When DVI is working, in "Display" control panel, the DVI is recognized
as "Digital display" while VGA display's maker is recognized correctly.

When DVI is not working, in "Display" control panel, the DVI and VGA's makers
are both correctly recognized.
According to /var/log/Xorg.0.log, DVI1 is correctly recognizing the monitor
EDID, sets up the resultion, etc, but the signal is not coming out.
