With the new driver, all graphics are MUCH faster, but the same thing
happens with UXA as it did with the old drivers.

[Bug 357942] Re: [i945gme] Xorg crashes on startup (UXA bug)

2009-05-03 Thread MindVirus
Haha, I didn't explain myself explicitly enough.

Without UXA, graphics are great. This happened with Intrepid and this
new graphics driver from the PPA.

With UXA, the system crashes as soon as GDM is supposed to come up. This
happened only in Jaunty (as the problem -- extremely slow graphics --
started with Jaunty and trying UXA was a supposed fix) with both
drivers.

[Bug 357942] [NEW] (UXA) Xorg crashes on startup

2009-04-08 Thread MindVirus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

With UXA, when I load up Xorg I may or may not see corrupted images on
my screen. However, no matter what, half a second later, the screen goes
black and I can't Alt+Ctrl+F to a command prompt.

[Bug 431286] Re: cheese should not be a dependency of ubuntu-netbook-remix.

2009-11-19 Thread MindVirus
I am disappointed that I have not received a response in over a month. I
feel like I've made a logical point.

Cheese can be included by default without being required, just like
Firefox, OpenOffice, GIMP, Rhythmbox, and just about all of the
Applications menu. This is the way it should be; users should be given a
choice.

I don't mean to sound egotistical or conceited but it is obvious that
having Cheese installed by default without being required is better in
every way than requiring it.

[Bug 405227] Re: gdm fails to start if /var/log/gdm does not exist

2009-09-19 Thread MindVirus
Say what you wish. Here are two facts:

1) GDM should not explode because its logging directory doesn't exist. Logging
is strictly a feature. This statement goes along with every other program that
does not inherently require logging.
2) A non-trivial quantity of users will have GDM fail because its logging
directory doesn't exist.

GDM can a) recreate its logging directory structure, or b) emit a
warning; both of these methods are foolproof, simple, and safe.

All in all, the dangers of keeping current behavior are great while
changing behavior to something less flawed is extremely redeeming.

[Bug 545658] Re: System fails to boot / Unclear mountall prompt.

2010-03-24 Thread MindVirus
"[SM] is actually a prompt to press S = skip? / M = maintenance?"

Wow! I had NO idea! Thank you.

Boot kept getting stuck there and I just assumed it meant "small" like
an insignificant error, as it occurred when it said my CDROM didn't
mount as there was nothing in the tray. I had no idea what was going on
after I left my computer sit at the prompt for a few hours, thinking it
would eventually boot up.

Booting up should require no user participation unless there is a
disaster. I don't think this prompt should even exist; everything should
be skipped silently until the login screen where it should prompt the
user with a list of the errors while booting.

[Bug 420671] Re: UXA indirectly rendered and causes freezes on Intel 945GME

2009-08-30 Thread MindVirus
It seems that these inefficiencies and instabilities only existed on a
2.6.28-12 EeePC kernel from array.org. I upgraded to a .31 kernel and
everything is much quicker and no graphical instabilities are to be
found.

[Bug 989785] [NEW] Horizontal scrolling is very slow

2012-04-27 Thread MindVirus

On long lines, horizontal scrolling gets progressively slower and slower
the further the viewport is scrolled to the right. This is reproducible
by using the text cursor, and by using the scroll bars.

[Bug 989785] Re: Horizontal scrolling is very slow

2012-04-27 Thread MindVirus
I'm using 1.5.3.
It takes about a second to scroll once at the 600-character mark of a
1351-character line. Scrolling all the way to the end by pressing the End key
takes about 2 seconds, whereas when pressing Home from the end of the line is
almost instantaneous. Holding the Right arrow on my keyboard in the middle of a
long line freezes Meld.

[Bug 1056595] [NEW] Messages indicator one pixel wide

2012-09-25 Thread MindVirus
Public bug reported:

When I first log in, I can see the envelope icon for the messages
indicator. I am able to click on it, and cause the drop-down menu to
appear. However, soon after I log in, the icon disappears, and I can
only open the messages indicator by clicking on another icon and
dragging the mouse over the single pixel wide column of the panel that
the indicator still seems to own.

Also possibly unrelated but other indicators are not appearing for me,
including indicator-weather and indicator-multiload.

[Bug 1161112] [NEW] Raring regression: SNA fails completely; UXA causes random hangs

2013-03-27 Thread MindVirus
Public bug reported:

The following occurred after I updated from Quantal to Raring.

I have an i5 2500K Sandy Bridge. When I remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf and
login to lightdm, SNA is used, but this causes my second monitor to go
out of sync, and my first monitor stops updating (though the mouse
cursor works). I am forced to do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to reboot.

When I create the following xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
Identifier "intel"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

Everything works, but sometimes, Xorg locks up for a few seconds.

[Bug 769319] Re: Icons added to the unity panel disapear after logout

2011-06-13 Thread MindVirus
I found this bug report after experiencing the same problems.

I have libdconf0 installed but this still happens. Thoughts?

Every application icon.

Maybe related: every single time I load Empathy for the first time in
the session, it asks for my keyring though I told it to automatically
unlock on login.

I, too, have this problem. However, the 'archive mounter' utility is
able to successfully mount the archive as if it was external media.
