[Bug 145107] Re: cannot create VPN connection in case of manual configuration

2008-09-02 Thread Mike Williamson
I don't agree with the priority assignment either. It took about an
hour of fooling around and google'ing before I found this bug report.

I actually did the following:

0) start box with network interface in "roaming mode"
1) Swap from "Roaming" to manual (static IP).
2) configured VPN
3) *used* it from the network manager context menu (while in static IP mode).
4) did a bunch of work.
5) shut-down

It wasn't until I rebooted the machine that the context menus for the
VPN stuff disappeared and all I got was the "manual configuration".
And has anyone figured out the difference between "roaming" mode and
DHCP enabled mode? Anyway, not being able to VPN in to work without
plowing through command line PPTP configuration how-to's put me within
an inch of going back to some other OS

[Bug 1301408] [NEW] [Dell Inc. XPS L521X] suspend/resume failure

2014-04-02 Thread Mike Williamson
Public bug reported:

Not a lot of info to give sadly. I suspended my laptop via the gear icon
menu in the top right of the GUI. When I pressed the power button to
wake it up again the screen was black with a message about "usb"
something and something about a "read error". The boot process
effectively stopped there... after giving it some time I powered off and
rebooted and it booted as normal.

[Bug 981844] Re: Spell check does not check spelling.

2012-04-29 Thread Mike Williamson
I really feel like this is a pretty core piece of functionality for a
word processor. As such this should really work "out of the box" as it
were. Should this bug be filed against the installer for not providing
the appropriate localization packages to make this feature work?

I have also seen this error when trying to scp some files and after
installing a custom package. The custom package was a config package
that sets gdm to autologin.

[Bug 1302306] [NEW] Sound devices disappeared after update

2014-04-03 Thread Mike Williamson
Public bug reported:

After running apt-get update/upgrade this afternoon suddenly my sound
devices are all gone.

All that is visible in the system settings > sound panel is "Dummy
Output"

Thinking the kernel update might have done it I restarted and switched from new
kernel: 3.13.0-22-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 2 20:05:40 UTC 2014 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
to 3.13.0-19-generic #40 but it did not change anything.

I realize this is probably filed against the wrong package, but its not
clear to me where to file this.

The dpkg.log from that update is this:

[Bug 1302306] Re: Sound devices disappeared after update

2014-04-04 Thread Mike Williamson
OK, I installed that kernel and everything is the same: no sound devices
and only the Dummy output device.

mike@sleepycat:~☺ uname -a
Linux sleepycat 3.14.0-031400-generic #201403310035 SMP Mon Mar 31 04:36:23 UTC
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

But as I said initially, changing my kernel does not seem to help. I jumped
back to my old kernel and it didn't help. It seems that some other package is
doing this. I just don't know which one...

If there is any other info I can provide that might help narrow it down,
let me know

[Bug 481055] Re: GStreamer encountered a general resource error

2013-11-23 Thread Mike Williamson
I think I have the same error, not quite sure. I see the following:

GStreamer encountered a general stream error.
If this problem persists consider reporting a bug using the link in the
help menu

And it occurs when I try to replay anything I saved. It looks like the
recording worked OK, but I cannot verify since I cannot replay it.

Details:

Linux Mint 15

[Bug 1056821] Re: Quantal: ctl-alt-t does not bring up terminal after updating

2012-10-03 Thread Mike Williamson
After the latest round of package updates this is suddenly fixed for me.
I don't see anything about a fix noted here.
In fact its still not clear which package actually delivers this Ctrl+Alt+T
functionality. Can anyone shed a little light?

2012-09-26 Thread Mike Williamson
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1056821 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1056821

Well considering that this bug was opened an hour before #1056821, I
would say that it is actually the other way around. #1056821 is a
duplicate of this bug.

I have seen this happen a few times now, someone reporting a duplicate
bug and marking the existing reports as duplicates of their new bug.
Whats up with that?

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1056821 ***

And just to be clear, I know that bug 1056821 is not yours Omer.
In this case my question is about how an older bug could be classified a
duplicate of a newer one.

In cases where the person that marked the older bug a duplicate of the
newer one is the owner of the new bug... is there some reason why they
are doing that that you know of? I have see this and find it strange.

Public bug reported:

I have a Apple usb keyboard and a logitech usb mouse both plugged into my
laptop. When I resume after suspending the system the usb keyboard works but
the usb mouse does not. Unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in is
required after every system suspend/resume.
I have only noticed this problem since the upgrade to quantal beta.
I have included whatever I thought might be helpful (lsusb and demsg output),
but if more is needed please let me know and I will add it.

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu quantal (development branch)
Release:12.10

Here is the output of lsusb:

And this is the output of dmesg. At the end you can see several lines generated
from me unplugging/re-plugging the mouse to get it working again.

[Bug 1168477] [NEW] Transmission does not show up in launcher or application switcher when launched.

2013-04-12 Thread Mike Williamson
Public bug reported:

As the title says: when Transmission is running, it's icon does not
appear in the launcher. There is also no icon for it in the app switcher
(the thing displayed when you alt+tab).

Additionally Transmission is not brought to the foreground when clicking
links in Firefox that would normally launch and forground the helper
program.

[Bug 966132] Re: Rhythmbox doesn't (always) play when started from indicator

2013-04-12 Thread Mike Williamson
Rhythmbox integration with the sound applet seems to be dead in Raring
too. I am running a clean install of Raring beta 2.

Back, forward play/pause: none of them work.
Choosing the Rhythmbox option in the sound applet does launch Rhythmbox but
even when it is running the sound applet controls do nothing.

[Bug 999191] Re: X crashes with gnome-session: Fatal IO error 11

2013-04-04 Thread Mike Williamson
This is happening to me running 12.10, kernel 3.5.0-26. I was using the Nvidia
driver and thought switching to Nouveau might help but it was the same. So this
does not seem to be an Nvidia related issue.
At least in my case I am thinking this could be a software reaction to faulty
hardware: I am running on an XPS m1530 and for a while even the BIOS POST was
not visible. The screen was lit, but remained black. It seems to be starting
again, but now I get fatal IO errors showing up in /var/log/syslog and get
booted out to GDM. Just before this happens the screen either freezes, goes all
blocky or gets crazy rainbow colored banding.

Another datapoint for consideration.
