[Bug 486164] [NEW] Sound Preferences no longer routes input audio to output device

2009-11-20 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

I have my Ps3 plugging into the audio input of my sound card. That way
I can have audio from both the PC and the PS3 go to the one set of
speakers I own. This also allows me to get by without the unnecessary
sound switch. With the upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10 this functionality
disappeared. I have searched the sound preferences interface but I have
not found a way to turn it on.

[Bug 529248] [NEW] sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg does not change xorg.conf

2010-02-27 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg

Some thing has happened to my system in which I am no longer able to run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg. The command itself runs on
the command line but prints out no information and makes no discernible
change to the file system.

It does not change xorg.conf or attempt to backup the file.

It seems to simple do nothing and exit.

[Bug 251709] Re: rdesktop works bad with several keyboard layouts

2010-05-14 Thread Mike Power
Well with the -K not working it kind of locks up the client system. I
was not able to click on the menu or switch to another desktop. As a
result in order to get back to the client I have to interact with the
server which may or may not go away nicely.

Not really functional for my uses. So the work around I have been
employing is to fall back to a version that works for my use case.

[Bug 537481] [NEW] radeonhd package should conflict with fglx driver

2010-03-11 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-radeonhd

According to Matthias Hopf the radeonhd and the fglx driver conflict, both
messing with the same hardware in incompatible ways.
http://lists.opensuse.org/radeonhd/2010-03/msg00021.html

Should the radeonhd package then conflict with the fglx package so
neither can be on the system at the same time?

[Bug 462716] [NEW] Recent upgrade crashes xserver

2009-10-28 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

I recently upgraded my ubuntu and restarted it only to be locked out of
my display.

Now instead of login I see the ubuntu progress image squished up in the
top 10th of the screen then tiled all the way across. It also has many
green and red bars across it. Each tile is not the same. ps auwx |
grep X does not reveal an X server running. Keyboard and mouse are not
responsive at this time.

I have enabled access to the system via ssh. I have also moved
/etc/init.d/gdm to gdm.bak to force the computer to come up with a text
login. I can use my keyboard to login. I have not been able to verify
if the mouse continues to function.

Xserver seems to attempt to fall back to a vesa driver which also fails.
There is not errors in the Xorg.0.log or Xorg.failsafe.log.

There is only the mention:
(II) Cannot locate a core pointer device.
(II) Cannot locate a core keyboard device.
(II) The server relies on HAL to provide the list of input devices.
If no devices become available, reconfigure HAL or disable
AllowEmptyInput

I am not sure what package caused the failure. I believe I was installing
these packages when the failure happened (from /var/log/apt/term.log)
Setting up linux-headers-generic (2.6.28.16.21) ...
Setting up linux-image-server (2.6.28.16.21) ...
Setting up linux-restricted-modules-server (2.6.28.16.21) ...

Setting up linux-libc-dev (2.6.28-16.55) ...
Setting up poppler-utils (0.10.5-1ubuntu2.4) ...

Atemping to fall back to an earlier kernel has failed.

2009-11-05 Thread Mike Power
It was not using the old options to map video ports to monitors. A
little poking around and I got it to recognize a specific monitor for
DVI1. However it still seems to think DVI1 is disconnected. Which is
incorrected because the bios drives it on boot.

[Bug 498251] [NEW] libvirtd fails to run user defined emulator permission denied

2009-12-18 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

I used a bash script to set some kvm specific parameters at the start of

The script looks like:
#!/bin/bash

Permissions on the file are -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 43 2009-12-04 10:16
/usr/local/bin/kvm-std-vga.sh

One virtual machine was setup to use this:
/usr/local/bin/kvm-std-vga.sh

This worked fine prior to 9.10 but after 9.10 I get the following error:

[Bug 483882] Re: Eclipse crashes on Help -> Install New Software... -> Anything Done Here

2010-01-09 Thread Mike Power
I had this problem with both sun java and openjdk. Both reference
libpango.

mpo...@dodtsair:~$ uname -a
Linux dodtsair 2.6.31-17-generic #54-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 10 17:01:44 UTC 2009
x86_64 GNU/Linux

mpo...@dodtsair:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=9.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=karmic
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 9.10"

It sounds like this is a libpango bug and should be moved over there.

[Bug 703800] Re: init: restart command fails to restart main process when pre-stop stanza exists

2015-07-14 Thread Mike Power
Is there a workaround to get pre-stop and restart to work together? I
want to use pre-stop to leave a pid file behind should the process die.
I can't do that with a post-stop because there is no way to tell if the
post-stop is being called because a stop was issued or if the respawn
limit was reached.

[Bug 1357750] [NEW] Grub fails to install on software raid 1 + lvm + btrfs

2014-08-16 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

 Currently due to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1289977 my system
is not bootable. The work around instructions are to dpkg-reconfigure
grub-pc. However that does not work. Here are the steps I take.

1) Download netboot.iso
2) dd netboot.iso onto usb drive
3) reboot nonbootable laptop on usb drive
4) Choose recovery menu option
5) Choose launch shell with root mounted on /target
6) cd /target/@
7) mount --bind /dev dev
8) mount --bind /proc proc
9) mount --bind /sys sys
10) chroot .
11) bash
12) dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc
Results: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev
mounted?)
Expected: Grub to be installed on /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc

System information:
/dev/sdb,/dev/sdc (/dev/sda is the usb recovery device right now) are both
members of a raid 1 using mdadm /dev/md127
/dev/md127 is a full lvm the volume group is called ds or /dev/ds, ubuntu
didn't support swap on btrfs at the time
The lvm is split into two logical volumes one for swap, and one for root
The root lvm /dev/ds/root has the entire section given to a btrfs filesystem
The btrfs filesystem has four "labels" @,
@apt-snapshotrelease-upgrade-raring, @...release-upgrade-saucy,
@...release-upgrade-trusty, @home

lsb release output:
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release:14.04
Codename: trusty

Can I provide any additional information?

I am going to try to reboot into a 14.04 ubuntu desktop and add bug
reporting information into this.

[Bug 774500] Re: postfix build does not have documented support of sqlite

2011-05-01 Thread Mike Power
I have been spending time attempting to build postfix from ubuntu source
deb with sqlite built in with no success

Path 1
apt-get build-dep postfix
apt-get source postfix
cd postfix-2.8.2
dpkg-buildpackage

However I can not seem to influence what it is built with. I can not apply the
following instructions:
make -f Makefile.init makefiles \
 'CCARGS=-DHAS_SQLITE -I/usr/local/include' \
 'AUXLIBS=-L/usr/local/lib -lsqlite3 -lpthread'
make

The result is a legit postfix, but no indication from the output
indicates that it took the sqlite changes.

Using the source code to build according to postfix instructions fails as well:
make tidy
make -f Makefile.init makefiles
make

../../lib/libutil.a: undefined reference to `dict_pcre_open'
../../lib/libutil.a: undefined reference to `dict_tcp_open'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
make: *** [master] Error 1
make: *** [update] Error 1

and this is without sqlite configured.

I have exhausted myself trying to build a ubuntu postfix 2.8.2 with
sqlite.

That is fine, I finally found out that I could get things configured
using the rules file. This built the dict_sqlite.so needed by postfix.

Seems like what is missing is a postfix-sqlite package. If I get to it
I'll put in a patch to generate the postfix-sqlite package.

[Bug 774500] [NEW] postfix build does not have documented support of sqlite

2011-04-30 Thread Mike Power
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

I having been setting up a personal postfix mail server and I was going
to use sqlite as the database to store configuration.

After following the configuration instructions here:
http://www.postfix.org/sqlite_table.5.html
I restarted the postfix server, but got now output on the port. Investigating
I checked the logs:

May 1 03:24:54 postfix postfix/master[15792]: warning:
/usr/lib/postfix/proxymap: bad command startup -- throttling
May 1 03:24:54 postfix postfix/smtpd[15798]: warning: private/proxymap socket:

May 1 03:25:55 postfix postfix/master[15792]: warning:

I searched the repository and I did not find a postfix-sqlite. I did however
find instructions to build sqlite postfix support:
http://mattrude.com/technology/installing-postfix-with-sqlite-support/

Not sure if this indicates that sqlite support is supposed to be built
into postfix or now.
