[Bug 290326] Re: NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 268667 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268667 More info: As suspected, this bug does not show on a system installed from the official 8.10 release CD. It was a problem with the beta release, but more significantly, it did not go away after upgrading. So I guess there is a problem with the upgrade scripts. Maybe just least leaving bad config data. And of course, whenever the system crashes, there must be a kernel fault. Feel free to close this bug, but I'm not convinced its a dupe. No work-around was needed, aside from a clean install. -- NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Same problem here. Thanks for the workaround (accent first, then letter.) I don't know why lspci was asked for. [Bug 290326] Re: NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband
OK, done. Not sure if it will help a kernel problem? Do you need some sort of kernel trace? It hangs a second or so after "LCP terminated by peer". Does NM load any modules into the kernel? (that are not used by pon/pppd) Why would the machine crash from NM while pon works? Different options to pppd? ** Attachment added: "nm-serial.txt" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19309231/nm-serial.txt -- NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290326] Re: NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband
I was able to repeat this using the same phone on a totally different laptop running 8.10beta (not updated). Again, the OS is crashed/hung. Different phone on same laptop was OK. I tested with an old SonyEricsson, and it worked OK, but - NM showed duplicate menu items - two identical choices for GSM modem. - does not add default route if I already have a wifi LAN connection. (I think it should.) The Nokia 6120c is a very popular 3G symbian phone. Also, my E220 USB 3G modem is not detected by NM on the updated laptop, though it did work with 8.10beta. The kernel etc. detects it correctly. -- NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 290326] Re: NetworkManager hangs system after select mobile broadband
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 268667 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268667 Alexander, NOT a dupe. Changing those values does not stop my system crashing. Why does it look like a duplicate? Bug 268667 does not report a total system hang. Another user reported that he used the same phone, and was prompted for the carrier. Why don't I get that? http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=926074&p=12#r17104161 BTW, my Nokia 6120 also has the latest generic firmware. Since this happened on BOTH my laptops, I'm trying to figure anything they have in common, aside from the phone, that makes me get a crash, but not most other people. (apparently) They were both installed from the beta CD, and one upgraded. Any chance a fresh install from the official release might fix it? But whatever changes are made in NM, there must still be a nasty bug in the kernel to allow this.
