I am having the exact same issue. 14.04 64 bits, ipod 2nd gen 32GB. I open rhythmbox click on my ipod then it crashes. I tried Banshee and the exact same thing happens. [Bug 998270] [NEW] Banshee freezes very often while playing Ipod
Public bug reported: I did not have this problem with Ubuntu 11.10, but since installing 12.04, banshee will freeze every time I switch songs or every other song. It returns control after one to two minutes or so, but happens so often that it is becoming unusable as my music player.
