[Bug 32577] Re: "Keep Aligned" on GNOME desktop doesn't align all icons properly

Hi,

Is there any simple way to apply the "patch against nautilus' svn
repository" ? I'm not a total noob, but I'm not familiar with the svn. I
could even to it manually, but I don't know where to look for the file
(and recompile?). Please help, I'd love to use that patch.

[Bug 567465] [NEW] vino kills gnome-panel when "Allow other users to view your desktop" deselected

2010-04-20 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vino

1)
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu lucid (development branch)
Release:10.04

2)
$ apt-cache policy vino
vino:
  Installed: 2.28.2-0ubuntu2

  Version table:

3) I deselected "Allow other users to view your desktop" and just wanted
to turn vino off.

4) Instead, it shut down and killed also gnome-panel (I checked with $
ps ax|grep gnome-panel)

Please let me know if you need more data on that. I'm aware this report

Re: [Bug 542296] Re: Cannot change brightness Asus UL30VT

2010-05-01 Thread Michał Karnicki
Ooops, forgot the link: here --> https://launchpad.net/~asus-ul30

Solution to brightness problem can be found here. Although it's works a bit
funny*, I'm very pleased. I used the version, where pressing buttons causes
the script to write values directly to the device memory.

* sometimes brightness-step-down looks like step-up, but it doesn't bother
me at all. In general, it works fine.

Good luck,
Mike

[Bug 567465] Re: vino kills gnome-panel when "Allow other users to view your desktop" deselected

2010-04-23 Thread Michał Karnicki
I'm having problem fetching package vino with debug symbols along the
steps from the wiki Sebastien has provided,

Err http://ddebs.ubuntu.com lucid-security/main Packages
  404  Not Found

Therefore the backtrace is useless. What's more, I'm having problems
with tracing the problem - vino doesn't crash when it kills gnome-panel,
and when I attached gdb to gnome-panel, it said that program exited
normally. This seems to be a tough bug for a novice debugger. If there's
a need, I can share my desktop with a trusted developer to see into the
problem (and no, I don't do that usually ;) but this is way to hard to
trace for me).

=== ! ===

Important notice: before deselecting "Allow users to view your desktop"
the lower box "Allow other users to control ..." has to be selected. If
not, deselecting the first checkbox doesn't cause gnome-panel to
terminate.

[Bug 1321178] [NEW] Scope will not build with custom class extending QObject

2014-05-20 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

0. Open Ubuntu SDK
1. Create a Unity scope from template
2. Create a class foo extending QObject (autogenerate with: file ->add ->file
->c++ ->class)
3. Add foo.cpp to src/CMakeLists.txt

What should happen:
The scope should build and runn correctly.

What happens:
The scope builds, but when running libfoo-scope.so does not contain the foo
class symbol, resulting in scope crashing.

[Bug 1338994] [NEW] Scope failed to install: IsADirectoryError

2014-07-08 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

This happens occasionally when I install a click package. Not always,
but it already happened twice (I've installed this scope like 40 times
now).

IsADirectoryError:
https://pastebin.canonical.com/113111/

If you want to try reproduce (which is not deterministic):
$ bzr branch lp:timeout-scope
$ cd timeout-scope

$ ./drop.sh
(pushes files, then drops to adb shell)
$ su - phablet
$ cd timeout
$ sudo ./deps.sh
$ ./build.sh

The last step occasionally (rarely) fails with the linked above error.

[Bug 1470951] [NEW] ListItem.Standard deprecated, but ListItem.ThinDivider not - two imports

2015-07-02 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

Perhaps the title of the bug could be worded differently, but I find it
weird we deprecate ListItem.Standard and encourage use of ListItem
component, but we don't move ListItem.ThinDivider.

For the list item, you need Ubuntu.Components
For the list thin divider, you need Ubuntu.Components.ListItems 1.0

Shouldn't this be somehow streamlined? You need two imports to:
1) create custom list items based on new ListItem
2) another one for a thin divider

[Bug 1488080] [NEW] Should not use generic contact avatar

2015-08-24 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure I'm filing the bug against the right package.

The persistent notifications on vivid (phone) show a generic
human/contact icon, if no avatar was specified. However, that image may
not match all contexts in terms of who/what posted the notification (it
may be a server monitoring system, for instance, so clearly not a
person).

current build number: 24
device name: krillin
channel: ubuntu-touch/stable/bq-aquaris.en
last update: 2015-07-22 14:36:08
version version: 24
version ubuntu: 20150713
version device: 20150529-8e13c5f
version custom: 20150709-814-29-21-vivid

---

Feedback from Patricia Davila (design):

Yes, I agree, a generic contact icon does not add value or give any info
to the user in the context of a notification. As I mentioned, if the
avatar is not present, the notification artwork should display the
originating application's icon by default, rather than an generic
placeholder or 'nothing' at worst.

Please see the following spec for more information on layout and
behaviour of notifications in the notification centre:

[Bug 1479688] [NEW] ListItem does not swipe with custom MouseAreas

2015-07-30 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

Expected:
ListItem with user avatar an an image/attachment. I want to be able to detect
the click on the avatar or the image, so I need to place MouseAreas within the
list view. This used to work with the old ListViewItemWithActions.

Actual:
ListItem does not allow a swipe when it starts on one of those mouse areas.
Meaning, you have to look for "free" space where you can drag the item, which
is not intuitive and clearly a UX annoyance.

[Bug 1433563] [NEW] QAudioRecorder recording hangs

2015-03-18 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

Recording audio with QAudioRecorder intermittently fails for me. Another
user even reported that it only works 1 out of 5-10 times.

QAudioRecorder seems to hang on requesting the audio to be recorded
(status QMediaRecortder::StartingStatus). When it actually works, it
properly goes from starting to recording and then it's possible to
record audio and playback.

QAudioRecorder has an error() method, but it returns
QMediaRecorder::NoError

Since it was confirmed by two people (victorp, karni) we suspect it's a
bug in the middleware rather than the apps.

A test click has been sent to Ricardo's e-mail by Victor.

[Bug 1500934] [NEW] The new AdaptivePageLayout should allow replacing primaryPage

2015-09-29 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

The new AdaptivePageLayout does not allow replacing of the primaryPage.

Simplest use case:
primaryPage: isSignedIn ? masterPage : signInPage

I've explained in more detail in the #sdk channel, it seems I have
convinced two developers the limitation of not allowing to replace the
primaryPage now seems arbitrary. Allowing to replace the primaryPage
makes the component much more flexible.

Naturally, replacing the primaryPage means all of the pages will be
removed, as the primary page is like "tree root" in this situation.

[Bug 1507510] Re: Push notifications missing when app in foreground, but device locked

2015-10-20 Thread Michał Karnicki
Thank you for looking into this XiaoGuo. I will elaborate further on
your comment, as it seems some important details seem to be missing.

> When the app is in the foreground and press the power button, On the webpage,
> just send a message to your client (to the nick).
> Then unlock the phone again, you will see that the message comes in and it is
> shown there in the app.

You will see the message comes in only because you turn the device back on. I
saw multiple times (but not always!) the persistent notification would show up
only *after* turning the device back on. Which misses the whole point of a
notification concept.
Essentially, you're seeing the message show up in the app only because you just
turned the device on.

> However, the problem is that there is no indication of the LED
flashing or sound for the newly received notification.

There's no sound or LED or, occasionally, even no persistent notification for
the newly received notification. When I tested this, I saw two different cases:
[before: device off, message sent, device stays silent even though it did
receive a notification]
- I turn the device back on, and the notification immediately shows up (and is
audible + LED)
- I turn the device back on, and there is even NO persistent notification (the
one at the top), which is even more serious

To summarize: app in foreground && screen off == no audio/LED, possibly
not even a persistent notification once screen is back on

[Bug 1507510] Re: Push notifications missing when app in foreground, but device locked

2015-10-20 Thread Michał Karnicki
PS When I mention lack of persistent notification, I mean I would expect
the notification to show up (or at least highlight the messaging
indicator) even though the app is theoretically in foreground, but
behind the screen lock.

I am aware that when the screen is on and the app is in foreground,
there would be no notification, but the use case covered by this bug is
real.

** Description changed:

  This bug has been reproduced with Telegram (both v1 and alpha2 v2), but
  would affect any app that makes use of our push API.

  Prerequisite:
  - application is in foreground
  - power button pressed, screen is off

  Action:
  - send a message to device

  Expected:
  - notification arrives (led, sound, notification visible at top after power
button pressed)

  Actual:
- - no notification (no led, no sound, not even a notification)
+ - no notification (no led, no sound, not even a persistent notification*)

+ * I would expect to see a notification even though the app is in
+ foreground, but behind the lock screen.

  Misc:
  I have confirmed the push comes through, as the ubuntu-push-client.log does
show it correctly (while the screen is off, but there was no visible/audible
notification)

2015-09-10 Thread Michał Karnicki
I believe I may have found the source of the problem. When the scope is
aggregated, the author assumed they can access results[0], which may not be
true if:
1) the user is signed in
2) but has no messages whatsoever

That'd mean the scope would crash for all users, who have set up
Telegram account, but not really used it.

Michi, if you have time, perhaps you could verify my finding. In the
mean time, I'm rewriting the scope source as the backing database schema
has changed (after we moved to making use of TelegramQML plugin).

[Bug 1413818] Re: Notification sounds aren't being played back on E4.5 (ubuntu-push restricts directories and block custom sounds)

So in theory I could change "sound: true" in the push helper output to point to
this path, and this would resolve the problem... ?
In practice though, outputting "sound: true" from the push helper should Just
Work™, so while we could mitigate the problem for Telegram, this would not be
the proper solution on the platform level. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

[Bug 1498076] [NEW] qmake project i18n needs fixing

2015-09-21 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

If you choose to use qmake project, there's two bugs:

Open
http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/12513759/plain/
and search for "touch"
That touches a file in build/po/... -- but the po directory does not exist.
Creating it manually works around the problem.

Open same link,
and search for
-g template
which is the looking for a file named template.pot. It should instead be:
-g $${UBUNTU_TRANSLATION_DOMAIN}

Because Ubuntu translation domain is used for the pot file name.

[Bug 1466410] [NEW] Tabs/Pages don't work correctly when Repeater used

2015-06-18 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

Follow:
https://developer.ubuntu.com/api/apps/qml/sdk-15.04/Ubuntu.Components.Tabs/

Use a Repeater to create two tabs.
On one of the tabs, press "open page" button.

Expected: page is opened, and it's possible to go back

Actual: page is opened, and content is immediately replaced with what
the tab was showing. once back is pressed, the *page* content is shown.

Since Jean-Baptiste raised this affects Telegram 2.0.4.* as well,

[Bug 1472755] Re: corrupted double-linked list probably cause by telegram scope

2015-11-25 Thread Michał Karnicki
Hi guys, sorry for late reply. I've been pulled to Tg unrelated
assignment and was neck down in documentation. First of all, thank you
for your input, I appreciate this wasn't just left here.

Michi, I'm sorry, but I have not had chance to run this with valgrind on
the desktop. I'll have to refresh my memory how to run this on desktop,
I recall it was fairly easy. How do I test a scope in aggregation,
should I run the Today scope with the Telegram scope installed on the
system?

Regarding what Timo mentioned - I also read a while back disabling
Telegram in Today scope "worked around" the problem.

[Bug 1472755] Re: corrupted double-linked list probably cause by telegram scope

2015-11-26 Thread Michał Karnicki
You're a rockstar Michi, thank you for all this.

We don't have mock data for this purpose, but you could run Telegram off
this branch (README.md will quickly tell you how to, basically
./setup.sh -t desktop -d && ./setup.sh -t desktop -b will download deps
and build it for you). The branch is a quite fresh contribution, but
should at least allow you to sign in to Telegram, which would populate
the database with your current Tg data. In turn, the scope should
surface this data, and hopefully be more representative of a more
natural use case (as opposed to being empty).

If you decide to create this ppa, I could promote it in the Telegram
feedback group, I'm sure we would have a bunch of helpful folks keen to
install this to help pinpoint the problem.

2015-11-26 Thread Michał Karnicki
Talked on IRC, but for the record:

While the app uses two dependencies, these don't use boost - and the
scope uses none of those altogether. The scope's pure Qt talking to an
sqlite db and surfacing results to scopes-api, not much going on in
there, so at least on that end it's not related to boost::log.

[Bug 1517553] Re: Push Notifications Delayed or Missing

Supposedly there have been some issues on Telegram end, and they have
been addressed this last Sunday. I'm getting notifications now reliaby

whether we should keep digging, or it's still something on their end. I
have also heard users have reported slowness on other platforms (I
haven't experienced it, so can't confirm that bit).

[Bug 1515977] Re: Nexus4 Shell rotates inappropriately in windowed mode

> auto-rotating in windowed mode is a bit broken, imho

I can't give an example of a 'landscape app', but whoever has a larger screen
can probably find one. Essentially:
a) starting a new landscape app will flip to landscape mode (if shell was i
portrait)
but
b) switching to (focusing) an already open landscape app will not (shell stays
in portrait)

Generalizing a bit, I also believe orientation requested in the .desktop
file should be ignored (at least to some degree?) in windowed mode.

[Bug 1517553] Re: Push Notifications Delayed or Missing

2015-12-10 Thread Michał Karnicki
Telegram app is not smart enough (though current source could enable
adding this behavior) to figure it should not show notifications for
messages that have been already read. This is usually fine if
notifications arrive properly (usually only by accident you could open
Telegram, read a just-received message [for which you didn't see a
notification], and close Telegram *before* the push notification
arrives). But it's not fine when push messages are delayed, in which
case it's possible to notice this behavior.

"I randomly receive those messages (already read) notification.
Some message have then delayed notification, some message no notification at
all."

You "randomly" receive 'already read' message notifications depending on
when they've been sent and if you've read them *and* backgrounded or
killed the Telegram app. Notification may arrive delayed (for which the
problem can be anywhere between Telegram itself, through our push
infrastructure, to push daemon on the device), but it would be good to
understand if, in fact, some message notifications don't arrive at all,
or you just happen to foreground Telegram when you expect those
notifications. You may know this, but for clarification I'll state that
notifications will not show when Telegram is in foreground* (which means
if some arrive, and you foreground Telegram, the following ones won't
show).

* with the exception of bug #1515344 -- I thought originally I filed the
bug, but essentially the problem was then the phone is locked *AND* the
app (for which notifications you expect) is in foreground. In this
specific case, they would not show/blip/arrive. If the phone was locked,
but the app was not in foreground, I think it worked fine. Anyway, just
providing as much details as I can.

2014-10-31 Thread Michał Karnicki
"Can't publish: Some projects (urfkill) that were in the silo
configuration list were not built"

I can't confirm. I'm on 14.09-proposed, I did:
  citrain host-upgrade 16  ubuntu-rtm

and I'm getting
  0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

I'm probably doing something wrong.

[Bug 1397396] Re: Badge counts not keeping sync with app/notifications

2015-01-30 Thread Michał Karnicki
We had to hold the previous release (regression in notifications), and this
week's was delayed mostly because QA resources preoccupied with BQ image QA. We
plan to publish Telegram to the store before mid next week, so it's ready for
Feb 6th as an update. In my understanding, we also plan to include the click in
the upcoming custom tarball. Effectively, there was no release last week, and
this week's release has been delayed, apologies. This version however addresses
multiple issues, please see here:

[Bug 1397396] Re: Badge counts not keeping sync with app/notifications

2015-01-24 Thread Michał Karnicki
Hi Pat,

We have a fix for this. We plan to release on Monday (Tuesday the
latest?) - depending on what's the deadline for the final tarball. I
know it's late, but I assure you I'm completely dedicated to this (and a
stable release).

For this next release, I'm actively working on a fix for another more
serious bug [1], which I'm considering a blocker (thus working over the
weekend). I have the fix, but we have a crash deep in the source when
the app is opened multiple times from the notifications (and from the
notifications only, not from the launcher). In the worst case, we'll
land the fix for this bug, and trim the mentioned [1] so that the app
launches, but does not open a dedicated dialog (which is a workaround I
would very much prefer to avoid).

For now, we'll zero the badge counter when the app is launched. We'll
later improve this to reflect the actual unread messages count as the
user reads through them in the app (and perhaps has some still left to
read).

[Bug 1394734] Re: registerApp is called on UI thread

2014-12-09 Thread Michał Karnicki
** Description changed:

+ Steps to reproduce:
+ - Flash krillin
+ - Launch Telegram
+ - Sign in
+
+ What should happen:
+ - The chat list should be populated almost instantly (depending on connection)
+
+ What actually happens:
+ - "No chats" is displayed, sometimes for as long as 5-8 seconds, and only
then the data appears. Problem persists over app launches (not just initial
sign in), so kill and re-launch to reproduce again.
+
+ Problem:
+ Ubuntu Push Client does a synchronous registration call, blocking the UI
thread (on which the component is instantiated).
+
+ --- More details:
+
  Instantiation of a PushClient component (even through a Loader) is
  causing a visible, 1-1.4 second delay in Telegram app launch, because
  setting appId from QML triggers a synchronous call to registerApp, that
  does a synchronous dbus call (which in turn probably does networking for
  that matter). I measured times of code execution of different parts of
  Telegram and found that it is the instantiation of PushClient that
  causes the visible short freeze when starting the app. I also commented
  the "appId: ..." line and confirmed the delay was no longer visible,
  which seems to support my thesis.

  http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-push-hackers/ubuntu-push-
  qml/rtm/view/head:/src/Ubuntu/PushNotifications/pushclient.h#L38

  Q_PROPERTY(QString appId WRITE registerApp READ getAppId NOTIFY
  appIdChanged);

  when appId is set, this invokes registerApp, which contains the
  following code:

- // Register to the push client
- QDBusMessage message = QDBusMessage::createMethodCall(PUSH_SERVICE,
register_path , PUSH_IFACE, "Register");
- message << appId;
- QDBusMessage token = bus.call(message);
+ // Register to the push client
+ QDBusMessage message = QDBusMessage::createMethodCall(PUSH_SERVICE,
register_path , PUSH_IFACE, "Register");
+ message << appId;
+ QDBusMessage token = bus.call(message);
  [...]
- this->token = token.arguments()[0].toStringList()[0];
+ this->token = token.arguments()[0].toStringList()[0];

  which looks like blocking code.

  I'm marking this as Critical, as it affects Telegram, but feel free to
  consult the urgency with victorp. I'm rather confident he will support
  that importance.

[Bug 1316183] [NEW] QML Image shouldn't decode its source field

2014-05-05 Thread Michał Karnicki
Public bug reported:

Sample code:

import QtQuick 2.2
Image {
 source: "http://foo/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbar%2Fbaz";
 onStatusChanged: console.log(source)
}

Expected result:

Image source should be:
http://foo/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fbar%2Fbaz

Image source is:
http://foo/?url=http%3A//bar/baz

The source Url should not be automatically decoded (yes, it's improperly
decoded, but it should be treated as is, not decoded at all).
