[Bug 302398] [NEW] lightning - chandler reload

2008-11-26 Thread mc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I installed Lightning plugin in Thunderbird and connected calendar with
Chandler. I created new event in Thunderbird and press reload button. So
far OK -> in chandler I see the event at the time, where should be. But
if I choose in Thunderbird that this event should repeat weekly, the
event jumps one day backwards in the Chandler after reload.

regards, M

[Bug 382185] [NEW] make-kpkg kernel_headers produces unusable headers

2009-05-31 Thread MC
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kernel-package

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04

kernel-package:
  Installed: 11.015
  Candidate: 11.015
  Version table:
 *** 11.015 0
500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I found this in several earlier fixed bugs, but it seems to happen again
with kernel-package 11.015

I need to compile an older kernel version (2.6.24.7) which is the newest for
which I can apply the patch i need. here is what i did:
I unpacked the vanilla kernel linux-2.6.24.7, patched to use click
(http://read.cs.ucla.edu/click/click-1.7.0rc1.tar.gz) and configured.
Then I make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-click kernel_image kernel_headers

The kernel boots and works properly on this machine, as well on a second
machine, where i installed the debs. However, with the kernel-headers installed
by the deb package I cannot:
- compile madwifi (make[1]: Entering directory
`/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-click'
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-click/arch/x86/Makefile:15:
/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.24.7-click/arch/x86/Makefile_32: No such file or
directory)
- when I configure click, it does not recognize the kernel as patched. (this
seems the to be the check which fails: checking whether netif_tx_lock is
declared... no)

Both compiles on the original patched kernel.

I went around the first problem by compiling madwifi on the first
machine and creating the deb with make-kpkg modules-image. But there is
no deb source for click, so I cannot do it for that too. Anyway, the
above is not the expected behavior, right?

[Bug 326149] Re: ondemand cpufreq governor reacts too slowly

2009-12-14 Thread mc
I also have this issue. Since the ondemand up_threshold is set default
at 80, browsing is somewhat less responsive compared to using
performance governor. I fixed this by modifying the /etc/init.d/ondemand
to set the up_threshold to 20. However, this is not a permanent fix.
When I switch power profiles, up_threshold value goes back to 80 when I
revert to ondemand governor. Is the 80 value built into the kernel or is
there a conf file we can modify to change this value permanently?

I noticed that a lot of users have different preferences with regards to
the up_threshold value. Some would want the value up high and some like
me want the value low. Would it be possible to have a conf file which
contains the up_threshold value and could be modified by users according
to their preferences? I think this would be helpful to all.

[Bug 1810298] [NEW] missing dependency on python-yaml

2019-01-02 Thread Mc
Public bug reported:

On 18.04LTS, installing clang-tools and clang-tidy [1] is not enough to
run "run-clang-tidy" script, it is provided but broken since it depends

[Bug 1880404] [NEW] graphic app list does not scroll/scrolls partly with touchpad

2020-05-24 Thread mc
Public bug reported:

I have just upgraded to 20.04 LTS Focal Fossa GNOME version 3.36.2 and
now experiencing some (minor) issues.

When entering the app list (through the graphic button on the edge of
the dock) and trying scrolling through my apps using the touchpad,
scrolling is either not working or works partly - i.e i'm being able to
move only between the first two pages. If moving to a different page by
clicking the dots to the right side (say page 3 or 4), scrolling is
locked.

Interestingly, scrolling works fine when using my mouse wheel, and
depending on what page i'm ending up in, trying to use touchpad
afterwards allows me to scroll through the 3 pages - the one i started
in, the previous one, the one after.

I'm certain my touchpad is not damaged, as it works as usual when
browsing the net with several browsers.

I used to have this problem as well back in 18.04:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1694373
and it seemed like the scrolling response improved majorly in the sense that
gradual scrolling is now possible, making the experience more fluid than it
used to be.

[Bug 1882464] [NEW] menu icons in top bars exceed their boundary

2020-06-07 Thread mc
Public bug reported:

Sometimes the top bar icons (battery icon, wifi, sound etc...) are going out of
their boundary at the top bar. when doing so they take over any maximized
window top bar (e.g. browser, file explorer or any other app). By doing so it
prevents the user from reaching the X, resize, and minimize buttons at the top
right bar of the app.
Sometimes the app menu on that same top bar is exceeding as well causing the
same problem on the left side of the screen.
It happened several times, but i cant seem to notice what cause it...
The problem also disappear quite easily, but the only time i noticed something
that stopped it is when i toggled off the "application menu" option in
"Extensions" - i.e. made any structure change in the top bar.

I'm using ubuntu 20.04 LTS "focal fossa".
I use a workspace indicator, and a horizontal workspace structure which i both
toggled on from "Extensions".

This could be a number of things, I can't help thinking that it sounds

happens with that USB key then try a different one :) if thats the only
time it happened then I wouldn't worry too much about it but definitely
report if it happens again.

Re: [Bug 144561] Re: non ubuntu partition deleted causes boot failure

2008-05-12 Thread Alan Mc
The bug here is that it is not handled automatically. The user should not be
required to edit fstab at all when using ubuntu but they might well be
expected to remove a windows partition once they got used to using ubuntu
and no longer required a dual boot. This is exactly the issue that might
occur in this situation.

I raised this bug a long time ago, no idea if it's still an issue with
latest ubuntu or not!

[Bug 262693] Re: Flash not working: Intrepid, 2.6.27, FF3

2009-03-20 Thread Chris Mc
As I watch a flash video, it starts off fine, then the firs thing to go
is the video, which turns grey, then after about 2-3 seconds, the sound
stops. I've followed various instructions on re-installing pulse audio
and the like, but nothing is helping.

[Bug 262693] Re: Flash not working: Intrepid, 2.6.27, FF3

2009-03-06 Thread Chris Mc
As of this morning, videos stop working about 15-30 seconds in. I can
restart firefox or even browse to a new video, and it will start playing
and then stop. Other flash programs, most notably charts on Google
Analytics, which used to stop working, appear to continue to show (at
least for the last 24 hours). So, maybe this IS a sound issue?

[Bug 110660] Re: Rhythmbox will not re-add files if they are in one's library with the "Watch my library for new files" feature.

2007-10-03 Thread Alan Mc
Just tested with Gutsy rhythmbox and it seems to be resolved.

1. open rhythmbox and select a folder containing mp3's and also ticked watch
folder for changes.
2. closed rhythmbox and verified that it was not running in the background with
ps.
3. added a new mp3 to mp3 folder.
4. restarted rhythmbox and it immediately updated the list of files with the
new mp3.

Public bug reported:

during installation i configured my gentoo partition to be mounted as

was visible complaining that partition with XX UUID was not found and
dumped to a recovery console.

[Bug 145262] Unclutter stops mouse functioning properly in fullscreen games

2007-09-26 Thread Alan Mc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unclutter

When playing games fullscreen with unclutter running, unclutter
considers the pointer to be inactive and will try to grab the pointer
(and hide it). This causes the mouse/crosshair in the game to jump to
the center of the screen some seconds after moving it (whatever the
unclutter -delay is set to).

Solution would be to either fix unclutter or to kill it when switching
to fullscreen.

[Bug 137903] Total system freeze when watch video only

2007-09-06 Thread Jason Mc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mplayer

I occassionally get a total system freeze (i.e. hard reboot required)
when watching video. E.g. watching movies embedded in websites (e.g.
discgolftv.com) and watching movies in Totem movie player.

I get very frequent system freezes when watching video via my Hauppauge
TV tuner card and the MPlayer movie player. Following instructions from
linuxtv.org, I use tzap to tune a dvb-t station and then launch "mplayer
/dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0". Generally lasts between 5 secs and 5 minutes
before a freeze occurs.

It is only watching video that a freeze will occur. I never have had a
freeze in any other scenario.

Currently running with the NV driver. I have tried restricted drivers
however the same result applies.

Looking at other system freeze cases, I tried disabling
/etc/init.d/powernowd but it did not solve the issue.

ASUS A7V266-E motherboard.
NVidia GeForce 7600GS AGP graphics card.
Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1300 TV tuner.
mplayer media player.

Not sure what information is required so I have taken a stab. If there
is anything that needs to be collected please just let me know.

That does sound kind of rude. Mantas has plenty of valid points,
avoiding user confusion and making software compatible and easy to use
is one of the goals of Ubuntu. Of course there is not exact
compatibility between abiwords default format and odt but at least
Mantas has brought the (important) issue to the forefront, we welcome

[Bug 76489] Re: network device, module r8169, fails with NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out

2008-02-25 Thread Alan Mc
Unfortunately this bug has reappeared, no updates or other changes have
been made to this system since upgrading to the hardy kernel a few month
or two ago. The NETDEV WATCHDOG time out thing happened just now on it,
I imagine this bug could be hard to pin down if it only manifests it's
self once every month or so?

[Bug 76489] Re: network device, module r8169, fails with NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out

2008-01-09 Thread Alan Mc
Hi Brian,

So far so good. I have only been back from holiday for a couple of days
but have been using the affected system extensively since then. So far
there have been no issues what so ever but as can be seen from earlier
reports, a few days can go by without this bug surfacing.

Will update the bug if it comes back.

[Bug 76489] Re: network device, module r8169, fails with NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out

2008-01-13 Thread Alan Mc
At last this seems to be resolved. I have had no further issues since
upgrading to 2.6.24-2-generic before Christmas (tested for about 6 or 7
days straight). Lets hope it stays this way for me and the others
affected!

For anyone else with this issue, upgrading to the hardy kernel ( >=
2.6.24-2-generic) should do the trick!

Re: [Bug 76489] Re: network device, module r8169, fails with NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out

2008-01-23 Thread Alan Mc
Hi Baskar,

When you say "it doesn't work" do you mean that you don't get any network
interface at all with this card under 7.10 or 7.04? Or that you are
suffering from this specific bug? If you don't get any network interface at
all then thats a separate issue and you should check the ubuntu forums or
irc channels for help and maybe file a bug if you don't get anywhere.

If you mean that your getting this bug then upgrading to the
2.6.24-2-generic kernel or later should fix it, it fixed it for me! You can
get that kernel from the Hardy Heron development release, it is installable
on Gutsy (7.10) although care and knowledge of what your doing is required
in order to not break anything. Things you might encounter issues with when
upgrading manually to the Hardy development kernel are any proprietary
kernel modules and drivers, such as the Nvidia glx package and also
proprietary drivers for wireless etc. If your system is only using Free
software drivers then this will be much simpler.

2.6.24 kernel image package from Hardy Heron:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/base/linux-image-2.6.24-4-generic

[Bug 84782] Re: slow samba transfer speed to/from windows machines

2007-09-22 Thread Alan Mc
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 46081 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/46081

I can confirm that this bug is not present in other distro I tried
(gentoo) and that using the kernel module downloaded from realtek
website fixes the issue completely. buying a new network card is NOT a
solution.

This has been causing a lot of people a lot of headached (4kb/s with
samba on 100MB network!) and it would be really nice to get this fixed..
presumably gutsy will have an up dated version of this module and it
will hopefully work

[Bug 76489] Re: network device, module r8169, fails after some minutes

2007-12-20 Thread Alan Mc
can someone who knows whats going on with this bug let me know if it's
fixed or not and when we might see this fix? I upgraded a system to
gutsy because it says "fix released" so I thought it would mean fixed in
gutsy seeing as it said fix released whilst gutsy was in development -
yet i have the exact same issues here in gutsy so where is the fix/patch
whatever that I can download it? who made the fix? is it in the kernel
or what? Please help!

I understand that everyone is busy but surely a quick hit of "reply" and
"it should be working in gutsy" or "it's not fixable" or something that
would explain the situation a little would not be out of the question?

Thanks,

Alan

[Bug 108582] Perl Curses::Forms don't work on AMD64

Binary package hint: libcurses-perl

I'm learning curses in perl and to my astonishment I found that one of the
demos (namely demo.form) doesn't work - just like any forms I try to do in
fact. A quick look in the HISTORY of a downloaded version 1.15:

[Bug 108582] Re: Perl Curses::Forms don't work on AMD64

2007-04-21 Thread mc^2
Hm, next interesting thing in an INSTALL file:
4.2)
Curses has an interface header file named form.h. If on your system
this is in a system header file directory such as /usr/include, you
have a problem. That's because Perl also has a file named form.h
in a directory that is searched before the system directories in the
compile of the Perl Curses module.

So you'll have to fix that. It's better to have your Curses stuff
in its own directory. /usr/include/ncurses is conventional. Move
   all your Curses header files (curses.h, ncurses.h, form.h, menu.h,
panel.h) into this directory If you use /usr/include/ncurses,
Makefile.PL will find them there. Otherwise, set the _CFLAGS
   environment variables below accordingly.

You can ignore all this if you're not building forms capability
into the Perl Curses module (by specifying "FORMS" as an option to
   Makefile.PL below).

Of course it is the case in the debian package libncurses5-dev, hence
the problem. It would be nice if someone fixed this (I'll do this myself
on my machine but probably some other packages look for ncurses headers
in /usr/include so it might be a little pain in the ass to do it
thoroughly).

Sorry for writing so much - I installed the 1.15 version - I made a symlink
form_ncurses.h ->/usr/include/form.h, included it, instead of form.h in the
config file and it works fine.
BTW demo.menu makes a segfault both in debian 1.13 and downloaded 1.15 (on
AMD64) - but I don't use it.

I've installed Dropbox now. That's much better.

Thanks anyway.

2009-11-24 Thread mc-laptop
Dear Joshua,

thanks for writing to me. Mostly I am using Epiphany but also Firefox.

I can not connect from the Ubuntu One app. and not from the folder
button.

Dropbox works without problem.

Best regards

Marek

[Bug 232172] Re: MASTER no wlan option for pppoe configuration

2009-09-05 Thread Andrew Mc
Just adding my request as well to this list.

PPPoE over wireless devices is definitely needed in NetworkManager / nm-
applet

Since it is possible via command line.

another example is a virtual wireless device as provided by the iburst driver
ibdriver.sourceforge.net. It uses the wireless stack so as to provide signal
strength to network tools like Network manager, Kwifimanager, etc.
However nm-applet doesn't allow pppoe over wireless even when setting
/etc/NetworkManager/nm-settings.conf to "managed"
