Ideally usb_modeswitch would autodetect the device.

Also, usb_modewitch doesn't seem to wait for the device to become
available (race condition).. only rezero works from udev.rules for me.

No. Only the first entry (servicing /deb/ttyHS0) works.

The other entry (ttyHS1) does make the modem connect (according to the
LED on the modem), but doesn't get an IP. I've tried several times
(thinking of bug 282100, the symptoms are similar), but no luck
connecting using the second entry in the drop-down box.

[Bug 282100] [NEW] Connection times out using hso driver

2008-10-12 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have a USB dongle that works using the hso driver.

If you try to make an internet connection just after plugging it in, it
can take longer than network-manager's timeout. Because of this, n-m
will think the connection has failed, while the modem thinks it's
connected (this usually happens a few seconds after the default timeout,
judging by the "connection" LED on the modem).

If you wait a while before choosing the UMTS connection from the nm-
applet menu, it works fine.

I think increasing the timeout of the "AT_OWANCALL=%d,1,1" command from
10s to 15s or maybe even 20s would resolve the problem (though the race
condition will still exist).

[Bug 256296] [NEW] 'option' driver should not claim to work for USB id 0af0:6911

2008-08-08 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

I have an Option iCON 7.2 USB UMTS/HSDPA device, with USB ID 0af0:6911.

It has new firmware (which also changed the USB id to the current one),
doesn't work with the 'option' driver, but does work with the 'hso'
driver (usb-add-option-hso-driver.patch in gregkh's linux-staging), so I

This isn't really a kernel issue anymore (there is a userland switcher
tool that integrates with udev, I don't know if it's packaged yet). This
bug can be closed.

[Bug 316006] [NEW] Rhythmbox doubles tags on m4a files

2009-01-10 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When rhythmbox transcodes for my audio player, it creates m4a files. The
tags on those files seem to be double. Both my music player and totem's
"Properties" screen tell me that Title, Artist, compose and Album tags
look like this:

Album: Little Voice, Little Voice

Which is wrong, as it should be:

[Bug 316007] [NEW] Rhythmbox doesn't put music files in the Music directory on mtp devices

2009-01-11 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This used to work in intrepid, but in jaunty, rhythmbox throws
everything in the device's root instead of in the Music directory. This
has two bad effects:

 * Internally, the device uses FAT, with a ~100 file limit in the root
 * The music player on the device doesn't find music if it's not int he Music
directory.

The MTP library does detect a special Music directory (part of mtp-detect
output):
Special directories:
   Default music folder: 0x00798f70
   Default playlist folder: 0x
   Default picture folder: 0x
   Default video folder: 0x
   Default organizer folder: 0x
   Default zencast folder: 0x
   Default album folder: 0x
   Default text folder: 0x

Again, this used to work in intrepid, but it's broken now in jaunty.

[Bug 316337] [NEW] Generated m4a files for mtp device don't play on device

2009-01-12 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

My entire music collection is FLAC-encoded, so when I drag music from
rhythmbox to my device, it should convert it to a format that's
supported by my player.

It used to (in intrepid) convert to MP3, and this worked great, but in
jaunty rhythmbox creates m4a files, and while that shouldn't be a
problem (the device should support MPEG4 Audio, according to mtp-detect;
most built-in ringtones are .aac), the files won't play. Tags are read
correctly, it can also see the track length, but it won't play the
files.

[Bug 311239] [NEW] network-manager does not set default route

2008-12-24 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I've just upgraded my intrepid machine to jaunty, and network-manager
stopped setting the default route on my wired network (dhcp).

The log contains:

Dec 24 20:31:18 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: address 192.168.1.71
Dec 24 20:31:18 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: prefix 24
(255.255.255.0)
Dec 24 20:31:18 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: nameserver
'192.168.1.254'
Dec 24 20:31:18 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: domain name 'lan'

While it used to contain (in intrepid):
Dec 20 16:11:19 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: address 192.168.1.71
Dec 20 16:11:19 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: prefix 24
(255.255.255.0)
Dec 20 16:11:19 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: gateway 192.168.1.254
Dec 20 16:11:19 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: nameserver
'192.168.1.254'
Dec 20 16:11:19 martijn-desktop NetworkManager: domain name 'lan'

My DHCP server hasn't changed: the DHCP response packet still has the default
router-option set (taken from tshark output):
Option: (t=121,l=5) Classless Static Route
Option: (121) Classless Static Route
Length: 5
Value: 00C0A801FE
Subnet/MaskWidth-Router: default-192.168.1.254

I have one network interface: eth0 (e1000e)

[Bug 311242] [NEW] Mouse pointer flickers when moving over links

2008-12-24 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I've just upgraded to jaunty (firefox 3.0.5+nobinonly-0ubuntu1), and I'm
noticing something annoying in firefox:

When I move my mouse pointer over a link (or move around within a link's
space), the mouse cursor jumps to the "link" cursor, and immediately
returns to the normal arrow pointer. Moving around within the link's
bounding box will re-flicker the cursor for every pixel (or so). The
link itself also flickers into/out of "hover" mode during this.

This even happens when I start firefox with -safe-mode.

2009-02-15 Thread Martijn van de Streek
That backtrace is still not OK, but I've been trying for almost an hour,
and I can't seem to get a good one either.

I think the problem is either with threading (in the panel itself, or
libedataserver1.2-11) or the gnome-keyring calls it does (that's where
most traces end up). I keep seeing "connection refused" calls to the
g-k-d socket. The environment variables don't match the real gnome-
keyring PID for some reason.

[Bug 346648] [NEW] Develop in UFRaw won't work in Dutch locale, because of escaping problems

2009-03-22 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I use F-Spot in a Dutch environment, and there it creates a "Foto's"
folder (that's bug #127315) to import everything into.

This works great, except when trying to develop RAW files: the
DevelopInUFraw extension (or the shell?) cries when it's fed a filename
with a single quote in it (for obvious reasons).

I've attached a patch that fixes this by escaping the ' -> \'

This happens for me too on jaunty with all my cameras (EOS 50D, 350D,

It seems to happen because f-spot and (gvfs? nautilus?) both want to use
the device when it's plugged in. gvfs to "mount" it, f-spot to import
from it. When you "unmount" the icon on your desktop, f-spot will stop
complaining about the device being locked.

[Bug 54819] Re: Printers found by 'browsing' (autodetect on network) get wrong default paper size

2006-08-13 Thread Martijn van de Streek
All machines on my network run Dapper, and all /etc/papersize files
contain 'a4'

[Bug 57606] ipw2200: Can't connect to networks on channels >11

2006-08-24 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.17

I don't know if this is the case on dapper too, but when I moved my AP
to channel 13 today (because of interference on other channels), the
ipw2200 in my laptop couldn't connect anymore.

Apparently, the EEPROM of my card has 'Geography ZZM' which doesn't
allow for this:

[17179590.336000] ipw2200: Detected geography ZZM (11 802.11bg channels,
0 802.11a channels)

The problem is: I'm in the Netherlands, where 13 channels are perfectly
allowed. The ipw2200 driver doesn't seem to have a mechanism for
switching this 'geography' value, which leaves channels 12 and 13
unusable.

They do (or at least, channel 13 does) work in Windows, on the same
laptop.

Uhr, your geography is ZZD and it says '13 channels', so it should work
on channel 13...

The card is in a laptop, which had a 'FireGL V5000' sticker on it, and
which is listed as FireGL V5000 in Windows.

In Linux, lspci reports it as 'X700', so they seem to be the same
thing.

[Bug 59488] Re: pppoeconf should be on livecd

2006-09-08 Thread Martijn van de Streek
That's good: imho ubiquity should have an option to configure the
network using PPPoE, along with options for DHCP, etc.

PPPoE is also quite easy to detect (there's a tool in the pppoeconf
package to do this, afaik)
