[Bug 913245] [NEW] "Enable additional components"-dialog text is unintuitive
Public bug reported: When apturl is about to install a package from a repository that has not yet been enabled (e.g. Universe) it asks the user wheter to activate that repository or not. The dialog that the user is presented with is worded in a way that might be absolutely obvious to experienced Ubuntu users but at the same time is sure to baffle any new user that has no idea what Universe actually is. Imagine a user who has installed Ubuntu for the very first time and has just opened Firefox to watch a video on YouTube. Firefox informs the user that a plug-in is missing, offers to install it and suddenly this message pops up: "Enable additional components Do you want to enable the following component: 'universe'? No/Yes" First of all: Do we really even need to ask? The selected package is in Universe, the user want's the package -> The user want's Universe. Ask yourself: Can you imagine that anyone has ever clicked "No" in this dialog? (Not by mistake but because he or she thought "Oh - Universe? Well, I'd love to watch that video right now but if the plug-in is not in Main I don't want to any more!") If, for some reason, this dialog is absolutely essential and can not simply be removed i suggest a much clearer, user-friendly wording. The dialog should explain what repositories are, what Universe is (in very short and clear terms, possibly providing a link to a longer description) and what is about to happen if the user decides to click Yes or No. ** Affects: apturl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/913245 Title: "Enable additional components"-dialog text is unintuitive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apturl/+bug/913245/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 615300] Re: Evolution should have a default signature enabled
I agree: This is completely useless. It makes at least some kind of sense on devices like the iPhone - because "Sent from my iPhone" is code for "Sorry for the terrible spelling". But using this to "promote" Ubuntu is not cool at all - it reminds me of the horrible ads that all the webmail providers used to append to eMails.
