[Bug 1752437] [NEW] Touchscreen on HP ENVY x360 15-bq102ng does not work

2018-02-28 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Public bug reported:

The touch screen on my HP ENVY x360 15-bq102ng does not work.
Neither with the stock kernel nor with the latest mainline kernel (4.16-rc3).

I am not even sure which device it is (see outputs of lsusb, lspci, and xinput
below).
Maybe the following errors that "dmesg" reports are related?
[0.948213] amd_gpio AMDI0030:00: Failed to get gpio IRQ: -22
[0.948487] amd_gpio: probe of AMDI0030:00 failed with error -22

If anyone has some pointers I would be willing to perform some further
investigation.

Best regards,
Marc

I think the new Raven Ridge ENVY x360 are affected as well.
My HP ENVY x360 15-bq102ng shows

/sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-ELAN0732:00$ ls
firmware_node modalias name power subsystem uevent

But the touchscreen does not work or show up elsewhere (e.g., xinput --list)
This is still true with the latest kernel (4.15 RC8+ as of writing) from

[Bug 1690085] Re: Ryzen 1800X freeze - rcu_sched detected stalls on CPUs/tasks

2017-07-06 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Was this issue officially confirmed to be a hardware bug in Ryzen processors by
AMD?
If so, could you provide a link to the statement?

Disabling address space layout randomization (ASLR) seems to alleviate
the problem, but does it solve it?

I am investigating unstable behavior under load which could be related.
There, disabling ASLR is not sufficient!
People suggest to increase SOC voltages, use specific versions of the kernel
and the like.
See https://community.amd.com/thread/215773?start=135&tstart=0 for more info.

[Bug 1427330] [NEW] AMD Kaveri APU/CPU frequency scaling not working on linux 3.19

2015-03-02 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
Public bug reported:

A few days ago, when Vivid was still at Linux 3.18 I tried the Linux
4.0-rc1 kernel from mainline and noticed that CPU frequency scaling
would have no effect on the actual processor speed. I went back to 3.18
and everything worked fine.

Now Ubuntu 15.04 moved to Linux 3.19 and it happens to have the same
problem as with 4.0-rc1 from mainline.

The cpufreq indicator shows that the frequencies are adapted but
> watch sudo cpupower monitor
reveals that the AMD A10 PRO-7350B CPUs are stuck at the lowest frequency level
(about 1.1GHz).

This observation is confirmed by a quick benchmark using octave.
The following line is executed on Linux 3.18 in less than 4 seconds, while on
Linux 3.19 it needs more than 8 seconds to complete.
> time echo "a=rand(3000);a*a;" | octave -q

I dont know how to get the actual frequency of the processor without
"cpupower" which requires some "linux-tools-*" which are not available
with the mainline kernel.

Nonetheless the quick benchmark with octave
> time echo "a=rand(3000);a*a;" | octave -q
reports less than 4 seconds, which indicates that the frequency scaling does
seem to work with this kernel.

If the question is just between 4.0-rc1 and 4.0-rc2 than this is easy: rc1 does
not work rc2 does.
If you want me to build kernels myself than I am sorry, but I cannot provide
this information at the moment.

[Bug 1343151] Re: no signal with BCM43228

2014-07-31 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
** Description changed:

On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS the device [1] appears as "wlan0" but no wireless
network is ever found, while
on the same machine [2], using Windows 7 pro, wifi works flawlessly.

- In the system log sometimes error like the following show up:
- [ 3454.485775] ERROR @wl_dev_intvar_get : error (-1)
- [ 3454.485788] ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_tx_power : error (-1)
- [ 4310.789941] ERROR @wl_dev_intvar_get : error (-1)
- [ 4310.789955] ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_tx_power : error (-1)
+ In the system log sometimes errors like the following show up:
+ >[ 3454.485775] ERROR @wl_dev_intvar_get : error (-1)
+ >[ 3454.485788] ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_tx_power : error (-1)
+ >[ 4310.789941] ERROR @wl_dev_intvar_get : error (-1)
+ >[ 4310.789955] ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_tx_power : error (-1)

I also built the driver provided by broadcom [3] with the same result.
+
+ The same hardware, pciid 14e4:4359, seems to work in a wide range of
+ Ubuntu certified laptop and desktop pcs [4].
+
+
+ Maybe anyone can guide me how to further debug the issue?
+
+ I tried to connect to some networks using networkmanager's "connect to hidden
network" feature to no avail.
+ The count of RX and TX bytes stays at 0 and the output of iwconfig is always
the same, even when trying to connect.
+
+ >wlan0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:off/any
+ > Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated
+ > Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
+ > Power Management:off
+
+ Then, I tried to create an ad-hoc network named 'checko' with
networkmanagers's "create new network" feature.
+ Now the output of iwconfig changes to
+
+ >wlan0 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:"checko"
+ > Mode:Ad-Hoc Frequency:2.412 GHz Cell: 9E:86:DA:59:C2:A3
+ > Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
+ > Power Management:off
+
+ And in addition to the mentioned wl_dev_intvar_get and
wl_cfg80211_get_tx_power errors the following message occurs repeadtedly in the
systemlog.
+ > [15951.974567] ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_station : Wrong Mac address
+
+ The the ad-hoc config the there are some TX bytes, but Trying to connect to
the network with another Ubuntu pc fails, and no TX or RX bytes are added
during the connection attempt. The only value that now constantly increases is
the "window" value in the output of ifconfig (sorry output is German, Fenster
means window).

[Bug 1343151] Re: "No scan results" with BCM43228 on 14.04 LTS

2014-08-14 Thread Marc Rene Schädler
I started with "acpi=off" and then tried many kernel parameters until I came up
with the "intremap=off".
It seemed that when apic took care of the interrupts the wifi would not work
properly.
Maybe, if "acpi=off" does the trick, you can also try "noapic" OR "acpi=noirq"
OR "pci=noacpi", which also made wifi work in my case but with "collateral"
damage (audio, bluetooth, brightness control not working).
