[Bug 1320161] Re: Xubuntu: Thunar integration still missing in Trusty Thar

2014-08-06 Thread MDM
I have a fresh install of Trusty amd64 and have same error with all
latest repositories. Note also that with thunar-vcs-plugin there are
constant crashes with right mouse click with GTK errors. The current
version in Ubuntu Trusty project for thunar-vcs-plugin is 0.1.4-2 which
seems out of sync with the latest thunar version 1.6.3-1. For now I
have installed kdesvn and have created a custom action for directories
to launch kdesvn to perform svn actions. The command for anyone that is
interested is "kdesvn %f" and is linked just to directories.

[Bug 1001573] Re: cd/dvd mounting failed everytime

2012-05-23 Thread MDM
I have also installed Release 12.04 (precise) 64-bit, Kernel Linux
3.2.0-24-generic and cannot get any CD disk to be recognized. I saw
some response on-line of a recomendation to modify the bios settings to
have the CD mounted after boot. I have a Lenovo W520 that does not have
any bios option to allow this. This seems to be a very serious bug. I
tried different mount commands and could not get the drive to be
recognized.

[Bug 1001573] Re: cd/dvd mounting failed everytime

2012-05-23 Thread MDM
One other thing I noticed. A normal DVD shows up but a RW DVD seems to
not be loading. There must be some problem starting the normal RW
project manager or able to handle media of that type. I have not tried
a RW CD yet since I am traveling but will try this later.

[Bug 917464] [NEW] 11.10 no longer has /etc/default/tmpfs file to set SHM_MAX

2012-01-16 Thread MDM
Public bug reported:

I have 16 gb of memory and cannot figure out how to modify the new
/run/shm mounted directory. The default for this directory is 50% of
available memory and I need to increase the size to support multiple
databases in memory. There used to be a /etc/default/tmpfs file that
allowed to configure a different size. Please let me know if there is a
way to store the desired size for /run/shm.

As a side note, there is a symbolic link created /dev/shm used for
compatibility. Unfortunately some applications require thsi to be
mounted directory using bind option. I have changed the /etc/init
/mounted-dev.conf to use "mount --bind /run/shm /dev/shm" instead of the
symbolic link and older programs are much happier. This includes using
Oracle database.

[Bug 917464] Re: 11.10 no longer has /etc/default/tmpfs file to set SHM_MAX

2012-01-19 Thread MDM
That work around is specific to configuring Oracle database to use the
/run/shm instead of the older /dev/shm. That was only part of the
problem. There does not seem to be anyway to change the size of
/run/shm. In the older kernels you could do this by changing the
SHM_MAX value in the /etc/defaults/tmpfs file or by changing the entry
in /etc/fstab. The new /run/shm seems to be created by something in the
kernel and the size seems hardwired. I was not able to figure out how
to increase the size of /run/shm.

[Bug 148440] Re: General "rubberhose" vulnerability

2008-07-08 Thread mdm-adph
God, what a sad world we live in. I still think this is a good idea,
though.

@Chris Jones: I don't see how this makes you any more or less likely to
be tortured -- if you're already in a situation where you're about to be
clubbed, I don't think simply the absence of encryption software on your
computer is going to make it any less likely. If the people in charge
want to beat you, they will -- they'll make up a reason. If you don't
have something encrypted on your drive, they'll just think you're hiding
it somewhere else.

[Bug 1543192] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in OsAbort() ["no screens found"]

2018-02-14 Thread Mdm Wm
Hardware: NVidia GeForce GTX 850M/PCIe/SSE2
  Intel® Core™ i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40GHz × 4

Steps to reproduce on Bionic (18.04 dev)

1. Install normal (Gnome desktop on wayland)
2. Install xubuntu-desktop
3. At some point the installation will ask for changing display manager to
lightdm. Agree.
4. Logout from Xfce and change session back to Gnome
   - At this point, note that it will still start up via lightdm
5. Error observed when logging in to Gnome
