[Bug 62926] Re: Ubuntu Install cannot detect onboard sound chip set ESS ES1869F on Compaq Deskpro

2007-05-24 Thread Lynx
Hello there,

same problem appears on my daughters compaq deskpro ENS C400 with the
above named onboard soundchip. I installed her Xubuntu 6.10 due tue
performande reasons, as the machine is not the most modern stuff. But I
got It from my work for free, because we changed the PC's in the
company. So far everything works fine but there is no sound. Dmesg
doenst show the sound chip, no sound modules are loaded. If I try to
force it with modprobe like described, it gives back th comment: "No
such device". But I've seen the chip on the board with my own eyes and
under W2000 it worked. Is this just a problem of Ubuntu or is it a
general problem? Is there another way to set the sound chip up under
(X)ubuntu?

I do not remember when this changed, but at some point it started
working again. The problem now is getting occasional compiz lockups and
the driver reporting continuous page flip failed no space on device
errors.

So I cannot give you xrandr info with the monitor not working.

But here is the current uname and lspci

[Bug 171424] Re: crash recovery

2012-02-29 Thread cyber naut lynx
I have used Inkscape for quite a time now and I found that the best
environment to work with inkscape is a linux distro.
Using windows won't improve the situation. I use both system on the same
machine and my advice, if you want to work uninterrupted is to use Ubuntu if
you're very tied up to windows. I work with the latest version for both
systems, and this is no WINE, I have a partition with Ubuntu 10.4 and Windows
XP ver 2002 sp2. Inkscape will fail much more often than the Ubuntu box.
