[Bug 54680] Re: Dual Head gives square cursor (or "SWCursor" crashes gnome)

2007-10-23 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hi,

I have started to experience this "big square cursor" on the second head
since upgrading to Gutsy on the new HP Compaq 6910p (Radeon X2300) when
I installed the xorg-driver-fglrx package. I didn't have this problem
with the original driver.

It appears that upgrading to the Proprietary ATI driver fglrx (8.40.4
available here http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/linux/linux-
radeon.html) fixes the issue.

Just thought you might want to know.

Regards,

...Louis

[Bug 1915509] Re: QEMU 1:4.2-3ubuntu6.12 : Unable to start SEV enabled VM using virtio driver

2021-03-03 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,
After much digging and searching the internet, I have found what needs to be
used to get IOMMU enabled and, hence start a SEV vm using VIRTIO :

  -device
virtio-blk-pci,drive=drive0,id=virblk0,num-queues=4,disable-modern=off,disable-legacy=on,iommu_platform=on
 \
  -drive file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/real-qemu.qcow2,if=none,id=drive0 \

The addition of disable-modern=off,disable-legacy=on does the trick !

Thanks for your suggestions.

[Bug 1596599] [NEW] Full disk encryption passphrase is using wrong locale

2016-06-27 Thread Louis Bouchard
Public bug reported:

When installing from the Xenial 16.04 media (amd64), if the language
selected at the first step (before Ubiquity kicks in) is english and is
then changed to another language (french in this situation), the whole
installation process will proceed in french, all text entered in the
field will be french, but the passphrase entered for the full disk
encryption will be keyed in using the initial language, i.e. english.

If the user enters Canonical in the field, the value fowarded to Luks to
create the passphrase will be Cqnonicql even though the rest of the
typed text will be entered correctly.

This has the ackward result of blocking the boot sequence after
installation unless the selected passphrase only has letters that do not
change position depending on the locale. Entering the english-localized
letters allow the user to boot correctly.

[Bug 1570775] Re: makekdump should re-exec with cio_ignore on s390x

2016-06-29 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

I don't know where you are getting these packages from :

~$ rmadison makedumpfile
 makedumpfile | 1:1.5.9-5 | xenial | source, amd64,
armhf, i386, powerpc, ppc64el, s390x
 makedumpfile | 1:1.6.0-1 | yakkety | source, amd64,
armhf, i386, powerpc, ppc64el, s390x
$ rmadison kexec-tools
 kexec-tools | 1:2.0.10-1ubuntu2 | xenial | source, amd64, armhf,
i386, powerpc, ppc64el, s390x
 kexec-tools | 1:2.0.10-2ubuntu1 | yakkety | source, amd64, armhf,
i386, powerpc, ppc64el, s390x
caribou@marvin:~$

Xenial has makedumpfile | 1:1.5.9-5 and kexec-tools | 1:2.0.10-1ubuntu2.

This change (along with a few more enablements) will have to be SRUed to
Xenial. But this doesn't change the fact that the versions in the
archive do install correctly.

[Bug 1852766] [NEW] Attaching RBD device after qemu upgrade fails with "Unknown protocol 'rbd'"

2019-11-15 Thread Louis Bouchard
Public bug reported:

After upgrading the following QEMU packages to latest Bionic version
(1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.20) :

- qemu-system-x86
- qemu-system-common
- qemu-utils
- qemu-block-extra:amd64

Attaching an RBD device to a VM that was running prior to the upgrade
fails with

"Unknown protocol 'rbd'

This only happens if this is the first RBD device to be attached after
the upgrade. Attaching a device, then upgrading to 1:2.11+dfsg-
1ubuntu7.20 will not generate the error message and the device will
attach correctly.

Attaching a device to a new VM created _AFTER_ the upgrade does not
trigger the problem either.

Downgrading qemu-block-extra:amd64 after the upgrade and prior to first
attaching an RBD device will also not trigger the error.

Here are two examples :
Using :
ii qemu-block-extra:amd641:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7
ii qemu-system-common1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7
ii qemu-system-x86 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7

With :

ii qemu-system-x86 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7
ii qemu-utils1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7

and an existing QEMU process running

$ apt udpate && apt -y install qemu-utils qemu-system-x86 qemu-system-common
qemu-block-extra:amd64
Using :
ii qemu-block-extra:amd641:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.20
ii qemu-system-common1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.20
ii qemu-system-x86 1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.20

[Bug 1847361] Re: Upgrade of qemu binaries causes running instances not able to dynamically load modules

2019-11-16 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

Nice to see so many known and friendly faces around this bug. Let me
outline a *real life* issue that we're facing following this issue.

We've put block storage in private beta a while ago
(https://www.scaleway.com/fr/betas/#block-storage) based on RBD storage.

The same platform experienced another QEMU issue (LPl #1837869) kindly
fixed and SRU by @paelzer) that we deployed on the same platform this
week. So all the instances currently running that have NOT used RBD
based storage during the BETA but will still be running when we go live
and want to use RBD storage when it goes GA will experience this bug
unless they reboot their instance.

We're looking into a workaround solution to alleviate this situation but
I thought I'd share the context to give a some kind of "real life"
experience :-)

Kind regards,

Louis (aka caribou) ;-)

Hello,

for what it's worth, the problem comes from the debianized version of
virtualenv which uses a debundled version of pkg_resource which gets
added into the virtualenv at creation time :

$ virtualenv .
Running virtualenv with interpreter /usr/bin/python2

Using the pip installed version of virtualenv can be a workable
workaround :

$ pip install virtualenv

[Bug 1915509] [NEW] QEMU 1:4.2-3ubuntu6.12 : Unable to start SEV enabled VM using virtio driver

2021-02-12 Thread Louis Bouchard
Public bug reported:

When using the VIRTIO driver, starting a VM with SEV enabled on sev
enabled hardware fails. The situation may be tested with the following
commands :

$ dd if=/dev/urandom of=/tmp/sev_key.aes bs=8 count=4
$ cp /usr/share/OVMF/OVMF_CODE.fd /tmp
$ cp /usr/share/OVMF/OVMF_VARS.fd /tmp
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -name real-qemu \
-machine
pc-q35-3.0,accel=kvm,usb=off,vmport=off,dump-guest-core=off,memory-encryption=sev0
 \
-display none \
-monitor none \
-nographic \
-nodefaults \
-m 16384.0M \
-serial mon:stdio \
-smp 2 \
-cpu host \
-device sga \
-device
pcie-root-port,port=0x10,chassis=1,id=pci.1,bus=pcie.0,multifunction=on,addr=0x2
 \
-netdev user,id=net0,net=192.168.100.0/24,dhcpstart=192.168.100.1 \
-device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=net0,id=net0,mac=52:54:00:cc:56:90,bus=pci.1,addr=0x0,romfile=,iommu_platform=on
 \
-drive if=pflash,format=raw,readonly,file=/tmp/OVMF_CODE.fd \
-drive if=pflash,format=raw,file=/tmp/OVMF_VARS.fd \
-drive file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/real-qemu.qcow2,if=virtio,id=disk0 \
-object sev-guest,id=sev0,cbitpos=47,reduced-phys-bits=1,policy=0x3 \
-object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/tmp/sev_key.aes

The output when starting the VM shows :
qemu-system-x86_64: Guest says index 53230 is available

When running the same script using the 'ide' driver instead of the
'virtio' driver, the VM starts correctly :

root@ubuntu:~# dmesg | grep -i sev
[0.243361] AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV) active

There is a mention in the libvirt knowledge base documentation about the
requirement to use IOMMU to make the virtio work
(https://libvirt.org/kbase/launch_security_sev.html#virtio) so another test was
to enable IOMMU :

$ qemu-system-x86_64 -name real-qemu \
  -machine
pc-q35-3.0,accel=kvm,usb=off,vmport=off,dump-guest-core=off,memory-encryption=sev0
 \
  -display none \
  -monitor none \
  -nographic \
  -nodefaults \
  -m 16384.0M \
  -serial mon:stdio \
  -smp 2 \
  -cpu host \
  -device sga \
  -device
pcie-root-port,port=0x10,chassis=1,id=pci.1,bus=pcie.0,multifunction=on,addr=0x2
 \
  -netdev user,id=net0,net=192.168.100.0/24,dhcpstart=192.168.100.1 \
  -device
virtio-net-pci,netdev=net0,id=net0,mac=52:54:00:cc:56:90,bus=pci.1,addr=0x0,romfile=,iommu_platform=on
 \
  -drive if=pflash,format=raw,readonly,file=/tmp/OVMF_CODE.fd \
  -drive if=pflash,format=raw,file=/tmp/OVMF_VARS.fd \
  -device virtio-blk-pci,drive=drive0,id=virblk0,num-queues=4,iommu_platform=on
\
  -drive file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/real-qemu.qcow2,if=none,id=drive0 \
  -object sev-guest,id=sev0,cbitpos=47,reduced-phys-bits=1,policy=0x3 \
  -object secret,id=masterKey0,format=raw,file=/tmp/sev_key.aes

This also fails and issues the following error message :
qemu-system-x86_64: -device
virtio-blk-pci,drive=drive0,id=virblk0,num-queues=4,iommu_platform=on:
VIRTIO_F_IOMMU_PLATFORM was supported by neither legacy nor transitional device

Is it possible to use SEV in conjunction with the VIRTIO driver ?

Hello Stefan,

Any hint on who could check on that ? What needs to be clarified is if
this is a requirement and there to stay or not.

Kind regards,

None of the server has experienced any kernel panic itself.

After analysing many of the crashes and seeing many of them handling
interrupts, we decided to reboot the instances with the noapic
  parameter.

No kernel panic has been seen since but this is just a workaround until
  a solution is found.

AMD has been informed of the issue.

  TIA,

None of the server has experienced any kernel panic itself.

After analysing many of the crashes and seeing many of them handling
interrupts, we decided to reboot the instances with the noapic
parameter.

No kernel panic has been seen since but this is just a workaround until
a solution is found.

AMD has been informed of the issue.

TIA,

[Bug 1662345] Re: smbios parameter settings not visible in guest

2018-07-20 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,
I have revived this bug and assigned myself to it.

It turns out that -smbios type=1,manufacturer=Scaleway is required by us
to trigger cloud-init's DataSourceScaleway on our infrastructure.

And, moreover, the functionality works as designed on Bionic :

# dmidecode | head
# dmidecode 3.1
Getting SMBIOS data from sysfs.
SMBIOS 3.0.0 present.
Table at 0xBC03.

Handle 0x0100, DMI type 1, 27 bytes
System Information
Manufacturer: Scaleway
Product Name: KVM Virtual Machine
Version: 1.0
# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
Release:18.04
Codename: bionic
# arch
aarch64

So I am going to work on trying to identify what was added to version
1:2.11+dfsg-1ubuntu7.4 to make it work as expected.

[Bug 1775086] Re: cloud-init fails to recognize scaleway

2018-06-05 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

Indeed, scw-generate-network-config does create a circular dependancy
hence systemd ends up shooting the cloud-init unit which breaks the
cloud-init.process.

We are in the process of implementing cloud-init on our platform. Please
keep yourself up to date, there should be some announcement soon.

Kind regards,

...Louis

[Bug 1780817] [NEW] kernel panic in nested VM with latest 4.15 kernel (4.15.0-24-generic)

2018-07-09 Thread Louis Bouchard
Public bug reported:

When starting a nested VM in a Bionic VM, the "host" VM kernel panics
following a simple drop to QEMU monitor by hitting A-c. For some
reason kdump is unable to capture the kernel panic so I only have a
screen capture of the panic.

It also happens on the latest mainline kernel(4.18-rc4). It is fairly
trivial to reproduce. In a Bionic VM, install qemu & ovmf and run the
following :

qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm \
-name balloontest \
-display none \
-monitor none \
-nographic \
-nodefaults \
-m 2048M \
-serial mon:stdio \
-smp 2 \
-cpu host \
-drive
if=pflash,format=raw,readonly,file=/usr/share/OVMF/OVMF_CODE.fd \
-drive
if=pflash,format=raw,file=/home/caribou/balloon/efi.vars

Use A-c to drop to QEMU monitor and .

[Bug 1780062] Re: Cloud-init causes potentially huge boot delays with 4.15 kernels

2018-07-11 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,
I have noticed the same issue on our recently released scaleway images with
cloud-init enabled on Bionic running 4.15.0-24.

Testing with the 4.15.0-26-generic kernel in -proposed _DOES_ fix the
delay issue on our image.

I'm taking the liberty of marking the bug tested.

[Bug 1555159] Re: Crashkernel parameter is not available

2016-03-09 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hi,

The crashkernel parameter is added when the "linux-crashdump"
metapackage is install.

linux-crashdump depends on kdump-tools which in turns depends on kexec-
tools.

Maybe this should be adapted to z as I don't know how the linux kernel
is brought in and linux-crashdump is a metapackage of the linux kernel

[Bug 1555139] Re: needs a mstflint4 transitional package to allow for smooth upgrade from mstflint4

2016-03-09 Thread Louis Bouchard
The mstflint4 package has been introduced in Trusty & Wily to use the
latest mstflint version which is the only one working with recent
Mellanox adapters.

The upgrade path needs to be secured for people moving from trusty/Wily
to Xenial

[Bug 1626269] Re: Ubuntu 16.10: kdump is not working in 4.8 kernel.

2016-11-21 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

The fix for this issue has been uploaded for Xenial and Yakkety and is
awaiting SRU approval.

** Description changed:

+ [SRU justification]
+ makedumpfile fails to execute if executed on a 4.8 kernel
+
+ [Impact]
+ Unable to generate compressed kernel dumps on those platform
+
+ [Fix]
+ Backport commits 2c21d4656e8d3c2af2b1e14809d076941ae69e96 and
+ 0c9dd01d8ee2e4ec1821a11f5e174fdba56012b8.
+
+ The second commit is required since, once the initial issue is fixed, it
+ triggers a second issue fixed on Debian by https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
+ bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=842019
+
+ [Test Case]
+ - Install kernel 4.8 along with the linux-crashdump metapackage
+ - Reboot to enable kdump
+ - Trigger a kernel panic with "echo c > /proc/sysrq-trigger"
+
+ Without the patch, the following message will appear and makedumpfile
+ will fail :
+
+ get_mem_map: Can't distinguish the memory type.
+
+ With the fix, makedumpfile completes correctly.
+
+ [Regression]
+ None expected. The modification keeps the initial structure when kernels
before 4.8 are used.

[Bug 1619239] Re: [MIR] tomsfastmath (runtime dependency of clamav)

2016-12-15 Thread Louis Bouchard
Debian has accepted basic enablement of stest in the latest tomsfastmath
package (0.13-4) :

Maintainer: ClamAV Team
Changed-By: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior
Description:
libtfm-dev - Fast multiple-precision integer library [development files]
libtfm1- Fast multiple-precision integer library [runtime]
Closes: 838497
Changes:
 tomsfastmath (0.13-4) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * Run stest after compile for basic testing (Closes: #838497).

MIR for tomsfastmath is the last hurdle in dropping the last clamav
delta and being able to sync to Debian.

Please have a look to know if any security review is required

[Bug 1654600] Re: unattended-upgrade-shutdown hangs when /var is a separate filesystem

2017-04-25 Thread Louis Bouchard
** Description changed:

  [SRU justification]
This fix is needed to make sure that the system does not hang on shutdown
when /var is a speparate file system

  [Impact]
System can hang up to 10 minutes if not fixed.

  [Fix]
Change the systemd unit's ExecStart to an ExecStop so the unit is correctly
sequenced.
+ Change WantedBy to multi-user.target. This requires working around Debian Bug
#797108 which causes the new unit not to be enabled.
+ Remove the unneeded override_dh_isntallinit
+ Add Default-Start levels to the SysV initscript
+ Improve DEP8 testing

  [Test Case]
In a VM with /var separated from the / file system, shutdown the VM. It will
hang for 10 minutes

  [Regression]
- None to be expected. A ExecStop unit will be sequenced before the Before=
units which is earlier than previously.
+ Upgrade has been tested on Xenial, Yakkety, Zesty. do-release-upgrade has
been tested from Trusty to Xenial. All behave as expected.
+
+ A change of behavior may occur now that the systemd unit is correctly
+ enabled, which would make functionalities like InstallOnShutdown to work
+ as expected whereas it could have been broken previously. This cannot be
+ considered as a regression as it is expected behavior.
+
+ Shutdown may be slowed down as it now correctly depends on /var and
+ /boot to be available so the unit will run earlier than previously.

  [Original description of the problem]
The systemd unit file unattended-upgrades.service is used to stop a running
unattended-upgrade
process during shutdown. This unit file is running together with all
filesystem
  unmount services.

The unattended-upgrades service checks if the lockfile for unattended-upgrade
(in /var/run) exists, and if it does, there is an unattended-upgrade in
progress
and the service will wait until it finishes (and therefore automatically wait
at
  shutdown).

However, if /var is a separate filesystem, it will get unmounted even though
/var/run
is a tmpfs that's still mounted on top of the /var/run directory in the /var
filesystem.
The unattended-upgrade script will fail to find lockfile, sleeps for 5
seconds, and
tries to check the lockfile again. After 10 minutes (the default timeout), it
will finally
exit and the system will continue shutdown.

The problem is the error handling in
/usr/share/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrade-shutdown
where it tries to lock itself:

  while True:
  res = apt_pkg.get_lock(options.lock_file)
  logging.debug("get_lock returned %i" % res)
  # exit here if there is no lock
  if res > 0:
  logging.debug("lock not taken")
  break
  lock_was_taken = True

The function apt_pkg.get_lock() either returns a file descriptor, or -1 on an
error.
File descriptors are just C file descriptors, so they are always positive
integers.
The code should check the result to be negative, not positive. I have
attached a patch
  to reverse the logic.

  Additional information:

[Bug 1654600] Re: unattended-upgrade-shutdown hangs when /var is a separate filesystem

2017-04-28 Thread Louis Bouchard
Test performed for verification-done for :
 - Xenial
 - Yakkety
 - Zesty
1) Installed unattended-upgrades from -proposed
2) Verified the status of the unattended-upgrades service. All displayed :

# systemctl status unattended-upgrades
● unattended-upgrades.service - Unattended Upgrades Shutdown
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/unattended-upgrades.service; enabled;
vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active (exited) since Fri 2017-04-28 14:02:35 CEST; 47s ago
 Docs: man:unattended-upgrade(8)

3) Enabled Unattended-Upgrade::InstallOnShutdown "true"; in
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades and rebooted. All releases
applied the upgradeable packages upon reboot (some had too many and the
timeout ran out before end of update)

4) Ran apt -y dist-upgrade on all releases. Rebooted. systems rebooted
normally.

5) Enabled trusty-proposed on a Trusty system and ran do-release-upgrade
to go to Xenial. After completion of the full upgrade, unattended-
upgrades service was active (as seen in #2)

6) Enabled zesty-proposed on a system with /var as a separate file
system. Upgraded unattended-upgrades. After upgrade, unattended-upgrades
service was active (as seen in #2)

7) Verified that the workaround for Debian Bug #809669 left the upgraded
system in an adequate configuration :

cat
/var/lib/systemd/deb-systemd-helper-enabled/unattended-upgrades.service.dsh-also

/etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/unattended-upgrades.service

# find /etc/systemd | grep unatt

[Bug 1614052] Re: SOSREPORT need to collect OPAL msglog

Hello,

could someone from the reporter team or with access to the proper
hardware test the package in -proposed for the following releases ?

 - Trusty
 - Xenial
 - Yakkety
 - Zesty

This is the last bug which requires testing, hence it is holding the
release of the sosreport with the requested fix.

TIA,

[Bug 1687791] Re: Install of kdump-tools fails

2017-05-05 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

I am surprised by a few things : first of all, linux-crashdump, hence
kdump-tools, is not installed by default on a server install. So you
must have added that step somehow.

I have just installed Xenial using the mini.iso network install and
kdump-tool is not installed after completion. I installed it without any
issue, rebooted and the functionality works as expected.

Now your output shows that it is the kernel's post-install trigger that
fails, so this is where you should but the -x (add it to the sh -e
shebang at the top of the script). Then you can run the following &
paste the output here :

/etc/kernel/postinst.d/kdump-tools $(uname -r)

FYI, this script is responsible for building the smaller initrd used by
kdump when rebooting after a crash.

[Bug 1666207] Re: Unable to create VPN connection on Zesty

2017-02-20 Thread Louis Bouchard
This is not a bug, but seems to happen when some required fields are not
yet filled. While the 'remote' field can be obvious,it is much less
evident when the interface refuses to allow the configuration to be
saved, because the certificate provided requires a password and the
password field has been left blank.

The UI should be more explicit on why it does not allow the
configuration to be saved.

0 @ 2.50GHz).

Following's doko's advice, I have built two new versions, one with LTO
optimisation disabled and the other one with PGO optimisation disabled.
In both cases, it makes things worse.

[Bug 1638695] Re: Python 2.7.12 performance regression

2017-02-22 Thread Louis Bouchard
Hello,

Following doko's advice, I ran a set of test with PGO & LTO optimization
disabled.

Here are the results :
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tTlEOvMypwKwi99XHjvuQFE14_jpBBLy0-Mk6bjkvL0/edit#gid=1169944329

This may bring more light to the investigation as it appear that with
LTO & PGO optimisation disabled on Trusty, the trusty version becomes
slower than the Xenial stock version. Disabling optimisation on Xenial
makes little difference though.

So maybe the PGO & LTO optimisation on Trusty is more efficient than on
Xenial and leads to better results, hence better performance. Just a
thought

[Bug 1638695] Re: Python 2.7.12 performance regression

2017-02-27 Thread Louis Bouchard
Following the results of the previous comparison, i've used Jorge's
profiling example on the 'call_method' bench for trusty stock, no LTO,
no PGO and Xenial stock, no PGO and no LTO. Here are the results. Notice
the difference between Trusty Stock & Trusty nopgo, as opposed to the
execution profiles of the other tests.

[Bug 1535898] Re: Trusty & Vivid multipath-tools (multipathd) seg-fault core dump

2016-09-09 Thread Louis Bouchard
** Description changed:

+ [SRU justification]
+ Without this patch, multipathd may exit in SEGV in trying to add a map that
aleady exists
+
+ [Impact]
+ multipathd crashes with SIGSEGV
+ A typical trace of such a situation is a message similar to this one in
/var/log/syslog :
+
+ multipathd: 360060160164034004cd59cfdb22ce611: failed in domap for
+ addition of new path sdr
+
+ [Fix]
+ Check if the map already exists and do a RELOAD in domap() instead of failing.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Problem was encountered in a complex Openstack test environment where the
following was done :
+ A test tool which runs which :
+ - first boots a number of virtual machines.
+ - then it creates a number of threads and in each thread it
+ creates volumes, takes snapshots of the volumes, and attaches the volumes to
the initially booted virtual machines. After a short while the volumes are
detached, and snapshots and volumes are deleted.
+
+ Running this tool overnight normally result in running in the multipathd
+ SEGV situation.
+
+ [Regression]
+ This is a straight backport of the code being used in 0.5.0. No regression is
to be expected.
+
+ It is important to note that the reproducer in the original description
+ did not lead to such a problem.
+
+ [Original description of the problem]
+
We have a problem on multipath-tools.

Usually after a path removal and a re-scan, the multipathd process dies.

  I created 2 hosts:

  iscsi-server
  iscsi-client

With 4 NICs in between them and with a simple multibus multipath. With
that I was able to check that there is a regression in multipath-tools.

It looks like the patches brought from upstream:

In the range 19-36 caused a regression.

Whenever I generate the package (for trusty) including those patches I'm
able to generate a core dump indicating a possible double-free or null-
dereference related to a path removal (that is why I can reproduce with
the test case). Unfortunately it usually explodes inside malloc() or
  somewhere in glibc.

Using valgrind I was able to verify some free() errors:

  ==30415== Invalid free() / delete / delete[] / realloc()
  ==30415==at 0x4C2BDEC: free (vg_replace_malloc.c:473)
  ==30415==by 0x54E243C: vector_del_slot (vector.c:95)
  ==30415==by 0x550A516: _remove_map (structs_vec.c:139)
  ==30415==by 0x550A5C3: _remove_maps (structs_vec.c:170)
  ==30415==by 0x550A64B: remove_maps (structs_vec.c:181)
  ==30415==by 0x40713F: configure (main.c:1153)
  ==30415==by 0x407A74: child (main.c:1419)
  ==30415==by 0x40837D: main (main.c:1618)

And they are exactly aligned to a core dump (multipathd) I got from
another user. (wrong free was coming from _remove_map).

[Bug 1621835] [NEW] multipathd reconfigure does not update /etc/multipath/wwids file on trusty

2016-09-09 Thread Louis Bouchard
Public bug reported:

[Description of the problem]
[SRU justification]
When running "multipathd reconfigure", which is done when one does a "service
multipath-tools restart", the file /etc/multipath/wwids does not get updated
with the wwid entries. Only the header is found.

[Impact]
The content of the file may contain stale values or remain with only the file
header if the file was removed.

[Fix]
Add a call to remember_wwid(mpp->wwid)

[Test Case]
With an up-to-date Trusty system running multipath-tools-0.4.9-3ubuntu7.13 do
the following :

$ sudo cat /etc/multipath/wwids
# Multipath wwids, Version : 1.0
# NOTE: This file is automatically maintained by multipath and multipathd.
# You should not need to edit this file in normal circumstances.
#
# Valid WWIDs:
/1494554006c756e31/
/1494554006c756e32/
/1494554006c756e30/

$ sudo rm /etc/multipath/wwids
$ sudo service multipath-tools restart
$ sudo cat /etc/multipath/wwids
# Multipath wwids, Version : 1.0
# NOTE: This file is automatically maintained by multipath and multipathd.
# You should not need to edit this file in normal circumstances.
#
# Valid WWIDs:

With the proposed fix, the last command would give :
$ sudo cat /etc/multipath/wwids
# Multipath wwids, Version : 1.0
# NOTE: This file is automatically maintained by multipath and multipathd.
# You should not need to edit this file in normal circumstances.
#
# Valid WWIDs:
/1494554006c756e31/
/1494554006c756e32/
/1494554006c756e30/

[Regression]
Only one call to remember_wwid() is added. This is what is currently done in
0.5.0
