[Bug 443105] Re: tty screen produces garbled graphics when gfxpayload is set
I got higher resolution terminals working with GRUB_GFXMODE by using vesafb. I roughly followed these instructions: http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/54 ignoring the vga= bit for grub. Also i worked around the no tty at all by removing "quiet" and "splash" from the grub defaults, but if todays update to usplash fixed something (i think it has to give the terminal a chance to load before X else it doesn't work) i might put them back in and see if it still works. -- tty screen produces garbled graphics when gfxpayload is set https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/443105 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1813423] [NEW] Frequent system freezing with i915 error "*ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A"
Public bug reported: My system keeps freezing on a brand new install of Kubuntu 18.10, always with the kern.log error "[drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A (start=4120234 end=4120235) time 486 us, min 763, max 767, scanline start 760, end 783" I think it's probably a duplicate of these bugs which were closed unresolved: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1660619 (closed as it was on an older version of Ubuntu) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1671975 (closed because it was a duplicate of the first bug) It happens far more frequently if I have desktop effects turned on, and far less frequently when using a live USB key (at always happens eventually though. Usually once every few hours.) Please advise how I can help triage / test. I understand that every user would like every bug they file to be considered "Important". In this case though we have around 23 people who have confirmed this bug affects them on the three separate bug reports. It causes hanging and forced hard shutdowns at unpredictable times as often as every 15 minutes or so. This means there is a high probability of user data loss and even hardware damage. Here's the immediate problem though. This bug is marked as a duplicate, so I'm guessing it's unlikely to get any attention. The bug it's a duplicate of though, is marked as being invalid. It's not because it was fixed, but because it was around - unfixed - for so long that someone marked it as Invalid when a new release of Ubuntu came out. It has 21 people saying that they're affected. So given that it's affecting me now, on the latest release of Ubuntu, where should I comment? [Bug 1781565] [NEW] Frequent hangs / lockups with "[drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A"
Public bug reported: Fairly recently I got an old HP Pavillion 14 laptop and installed Kubuntu 17.10 on it. As far as I recall it ran fine, however, not long after I upgraded to 18.04 and noticed frequent freezing (approx every few hours). When this happens, all of a sudden, the screen just stays with it's image immobile and unchanging. There is no visual corruption onscreen and even the cursor does not move. Ctrl+alt+F[1-9] and alt+ctrl+sysrq+RSEINUB do nothing. Often when I look at the logs, at the end of kern.log.1 I see: [drm:intel_pipe_update_end [i915]] *ERROR* Atomic update failure on pipe A (start=96545 end=96546) time 394 us, min 763, max 767, scanline start 760, end 778 Sometimes, earlier on, there is also: Could not find key with description: [d4628bf1c812c861] process_request_key_err: No key Could not find valid key in user session keyring for sig specified in mount option: [d4628bf1c812c861] One or more global auth toks could not properly register; rc = [-2] Error parsing options; rc = [-2] I tested, and this also occurs in a brand new live usb of 18.04, and noticed that it still happens there, even before any upgrades or installation of packages (such as the wireless driver). Other than the wireless driver, there are no proprietary drivers installed (eg Nvidia, FGLRX etc). Is there any more info I can provide to help troubleshoot this?
