[Bug 252699] [NEW] Bad samba network shares support
Public bug reported: Hello, This bug groups a lot of network shares issues. When mounting a share using nautilus: - nautilus never really mounts it, instead it creates a "shortcut" to the share using smb:// protocol - many apps have no access to such a pseudo-mounted share making it useless in a enterprise environment when working on files hosted on that share (ex: gedit, totem, zend studio, wine apps ... ) - free disk space is not available - burning files with brasero is not possible (files exists but have size of 0kb) Tried burning images pdf and .avi: same result When mounting thought fstab - it is far to complicated for an average user or a network administrator (doing such a configuration on all computer in an enterprise wastes time) - I had many problem burning files directly from a such mounted share witch implies to copy the files to local computer to burn them - if a share has a symlink, it is shown has a broken symlink (witch is not the case using a windows computer or the smb:// protocol) - when copying a file, the progress is not shown properly. All that issues just make it a nightmare to work on samba shares. Maybe it is time (Intrepid) to have a rock solid support of mounting/using them to spread Ubuntu a the enterprise level. Best regards. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/235622 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/140565 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/11696 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Bad samba network shares support https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252699 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 235622] [NEW] Hardy does not really mount samba network shares
Public bug reported: Hello, I browse my samba network (System>Network) to my Linux samba server, I can see shares. When I right click a share, I have a "Mount" option. Using that option, the share opens up like a mounted volume would: nice. But what a surprise: the share isn't really mounted! Nautilus is still browsing the share! (as I see smb:// in the location bar) My Ubuntu lied to me, it didn't really mount the share but just created a sort of shortcut to it! Side effects: many Linux apps have broken/no access to smb://, making that feature useless.
