[Bug 1304912] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics
The wattage consumption has now dropped to 26W on average. However, on Windows it goes down to 11 - 12W. Seems like it is still not shut down correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1304912 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1304912/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1316265] Re: Maximized Window's Title Bar Does Not Merge into Menu Bar after Performing Super+W (window spread) filtering
I git the same problem. It behaves exactly as #6 describes. Using Super+W again and select the bugging application makes the title bar merge with the top bar as intented. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1316265 Title: Maximized Window's Title Bar Does Not Merge into Menu Bar after Performing Super+W (window spread) filtering To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1316265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1293134] Re: [Samsung 700Z3A-S02DE] Laptop does not resume from suspend upon lid open
I have seen that the behavior gets activated since 4.0-rc1 https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/b0dcaf4fbb36895175657be029ed64eda2a34707 I have downloaded Mainline 4.0-rc6 and testes but it did not work. Then I found out, that the author did not activated the behavior for all Samsung laptops. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75901 shows the commands to enable this behavior: cd /sys/kernel/debug/samsung-laptop/ echo 0x81 >d0 echo 0 >d1 echo 0 >d2 echo 0 >d3 echo 0x6e > command cat call Then I can close the lid and it goes sleep instantly. After lid open it wakes up from sleep. This has to be enabled by default for my laptop. ** Bug watch added: Linux Kernel Bug Tracker #75901 http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=75901 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1293134 Title: [Samsung 700Z3A-S02DE] Laptop does not resume from suspend upon lid open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1293134/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1304912] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics
I am currently on Ubuntu 14.10 and my time on battery improved significant. The CPU temperate now gets below 60°C on idle (~57°C; but 47-50°C on Windows). I am still concerned since the overall heat produced from the laptop is somehow still much more less on Windows. Re: [Bug 1304912] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics
This improvement is just by moving from 14.04 to 14.10. I just cat'ed my grub config and I do not have radeom.dpm stated there anymore. [Bug 1293134] Re: Laptop does not resume from suspend upon lid open
apport information ** Tags added: utopic ** Description changed: Hi, in Windows closing the lid makes it going to sleep and opening the lid makes it resuming. I am using Ubuntu 13.10 on my Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z3A-S02DE. When I close the lid the laptop suspends, but on lid open it does not resume until I press the power button. With acpi_listen I see that it fires and recognizes the events for lid close and open and /proc/acpi/button/lid/LID0/state shows the correct state for each lid position. With acpid -d -f -l I see that those events trigger /etc/acpi/events/. I wrote an event that matches lid close/open and calls pm-suspend. But this does not make the laptop resume. I also uncommented the lines in /etc/systemd/logind.conf regarding hibernate and suspend. But this does not work either. So my problem is that the system receivs and understand those ACPI events triggered from the lid actions. But LID0 is not configured as /etc/acpi/wakeup device. Nor echoing it into the file does make it appearing there. So I am at the end of my knowledge and understanding of the ACPI event handling. I've already tried to pass different acpi_osi Strings with grub but the ACPI table does not change nor make it any difference for the suspend/resume problem. If I can give any further information please just ask me to. Thank you. --- ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-12-02 (104 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" - Release amd64 (20131016.1) MarkForUpload: True NonfreeKernelModules: wl Package: pm-utils 1.4.1-12ubuntu1 PackageArchitecture: all ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-18.32-generic 3.11.10.4 Tags: saucy Uname: Linux 3.11.0-18-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + --- + ApportVersion: 2.14.7-0ubuntu8 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC0: lars 4065 F pulseaudio + CurrentDesktop: Unity + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.10 + HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=63d413ce-f76a-4aef-8728-6b94c8328c5a + InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-11-19 (16 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" - Release amd64 (20141022.1) + MachineType: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. 700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B + NonfreeKernelModules: wl + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcFB: + 0 inteldrmfb + 1 radeondrmfb + ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.16.0-25-generic root=UUID=44843d26-d39a-43f4-bfd7-bb8b6bb69a91 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.16.0-25.33-generic 3.16.7 + RelatedPackageVersions: + linux-restricted-modules-3.16.0-25-generic N/A + linux-backports-modules-3.16.0-25-generic N/A + linux-firmware 1.138 + Tags: utopic + Uname: Linux 3.16.0-25-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo + _MarkForUpload: True + dmi.bios.date: 11/06/2012 + dmi.bios.vendor: Phoenix Technologies Ltd. + dmi.bios.version: 15FD + dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag + dmi.board.name: 700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B + dmi.board.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.board.version: FAB1 + dmi.chassis.asset.tag: Asset Tag + dmi.chassis.type: 9 + dmi.chassis.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. + dmi.chassis.version: 0.1 + dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnPhoenixTechnologiesLtd.:bvr15FD:bd11/06/2012:svnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:pn700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B:pvr0.1:rvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:rn700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B:rvrFAB1:cvnSAMSUNGELECTRONICSCO.,LTD.:ct9:cvr0.1: + dmi.product.name: 700Z3A/700Z4A/700Z5A/700Z5B + dmi.product.version: 0.1 + dmi.sys.vendor: SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO., LTD. ** Attachment added: "AlsaInfo.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1293134/+attachment/4275211/+files/AlsaInfo.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1293134 Title: Laptop does not resume from suspend upon lid open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1293134/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Okay, I followed the procedure. I was closing the laptop lid to enter resume. Upon open it does not resume but when I press power button it resumed without a problem. [Bug 1304912] [NEW] Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics
Public bug reported: I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z3A-S02DE. It uses an i5-2450m (Intel HD2000) and an AMD 6490m dedicated graphics card. Since Ubuntu 14.04 uses Linux kernel 3.13 it enables dpm by default. This causes the graphics card to be shut down to dynoff when not used and should make it use (almost) no power. However, the laptop fans are working all the time and the laptop produces quite a lot of heat (the CPU does not heat as sensors are at 60°C). The sensor for the graphcis card always shows -128°C. Using powertop it reveals that the laptop consumes around 34W on battery. Looking on the list where the usage is shown per device it shows the radeon graphics card with 0%. I think there is a bug and the graphics card is NOT shutdown correctly to not use any noticable power. I would appreciate if I can help you to find the issue and if you need any more information. --- .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-20-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-21-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-23-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device [144d:c0b3] Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Bug 1304912] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 laptop uses lot of power switchable graphics
** Description changed: I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos 700Z3A-S02DE. However, the laptop fans are working all the time and the laptop - produces quite a lot of heat (the CPU does not heat as sensors are at + produces quite a lot of noise (the CPU does not heat as sensors are at 60°C). - --- + --- .tmp.unity.support.test.0: - + ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: - bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-20-generic, x86_64: installed - bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-21-generic, x86_64: installed - bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-23-generic, x86_64: installed + bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-20-generic, x86_64: installed + bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-21-generic, x86_64: installed + bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-23-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: - Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) -Subsystem: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd Device [144d:c0b3] - Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [Bug 1293134] [NEW] Laptop does not resume from suspend upon lid open
Public bug reported: Hi, in Windows closing the lid makes it going to sleep and opening the lid makes it resuming.
