[Bug 148036] Re: Pushing backspace deletes links in places accidently
This bug also affects me. It is a problem in Intrepid. This isn't an "unstable" bug, it is actually a usability flaw because it results in a user interaction (click link to navigate, then press backspace intending to go up a directory) leading to an unintuitive result (deleting the Places bookmark). Steps to reproduce: 1) Open a Nautilus File Browser window from a standard install of Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop Edition. Ensure the Side Pane is showing(use F9 or View->Side Pane) and it is set to show Places in the Side Pane's drop-down. Also ensure that you have some bookmarks. These should show in the lower section of the Places panel. 2) Click on one of your bookmarks in the Places bar 3) Press backspace. At this point, the bookmark will be deleted, however the expected action would be that the main pane(file browser) would navigate up a directory. I suggest 2 possible fixes: 1) Return the focus to the file browser pane after any mouse-based interaction with any of the Places applet. This means that one can quickly change between clicking in the Places pane and using keyboard based navigation in the main window. I specify "mouse-based interaction" as it should still be possible to tab to the side pane and interact with it with the keyboard. IMO, this is the best solution as it both simplifies interaction (reducing cognitive load by removing the "focus is in the places pane" hidden state) and optimizes it (reducing need to return to the file-browser pane). 2) Remove the Backspace keyboard shortcut for deleting entries in the Places panel and allow the rest of the window to handle it, similar to how the Tree and History panels handle backspace keystrokes. I can't see why this shortcut is even in the Places pane's code when it isn't used anywhere else in Nautilus. ** Changed in: nautilus (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- Pushing backspace deletes links in places accidently https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/148036 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 176814] Re: Going to Places -> $(some SMB server) freezes Gnome-Panel until folder has loaded
I also have this bug and can confirm that it exists in the Intrepid beta. This bug is especially bad if a mount using gvfs/mount.cifs freezes due to network failure. Gnome-Panel becomes completely unusable until the relatively long timeout is hit or the mountpoint is forcefully unmounted. HOWEVER, I have only noticed this happening while Nautilus is open(and also frozen). I'm unsure whether the bug lies within gnome- panel or Nautilus. Steps to reproduce: 1) Mount an SMB share with gvfs or mount.cifs 2) Browse to the SMB share to ensure the connection is open, then close Nautilus 3) Unplug the computer from the network 4) Open Nautilus. At this stage, it may be required that Nautilus somehow try to query the shared dir, e.g. if a shared folder is in the Places tree, or if you try to navigate to an SMB share again 5) Nautilus and Gnome-Panel will be frozen and unusable. Restoring functionality requires: A significant wait (>5 minutes), logging out and back in again or forcefully killing all gvfs processes(cannot umount as the mountpoint is locked at this stage). ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- Going to Places -> $(some SMB server) freezes Gnome-Panel until folder has loaded https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/176814 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 549318] [NEW] Xorg crashes when I switch to console
Public bug reported: When I switch to console & back to X using Ctrl+Alt+F1/Ctrl+Alt+F7, X crashes and returns me to the login screen. I believe this has something to do with TwinView, as this wasn't happening before when I was using Xinerama on the same drivers. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 beta 1 with the latest updates, and the 195.36.15 NVIDIA drivers. I am currently using 2 GPUs and 3 displays: Two monitors using TwinView on GPU0, and one monitor using a separate X screen on GPU1. [Bug 513423] Re: cannot disable fbcon even when not requried by hw drivers
I'm told that fbcon and vga16fb could be causing my problems with my NVIDIA drivers. I've tried to disable fbcon & vga16fb using blacklists, renaming and even deleting the .ko files, but they're still being loaded. Are they being compiled into the kernel now or something? I'm using 2.6.32-17-generic from the lucid repository. -- cannot disable fbcon even when not requried by hw drivers https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513423 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
