[Bug 1879776] [NEW] ubuntu 20 error mounting smb drive

2020-05-20 Thread L Sluijter
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

nautilus->other locations>windows network lists the shared disk I want
to access. When I click on the name I get an errorbox: Unable to access
location. Failed to mount windows share: Software caused connection
abort.

nautilus->other locations>Connect to server: smb://192.168.nnn.nnn gives
the same errorbox.

The shared disk is attached to my FritzBox router/modem.
This works without problems in ubuntu 18 LTS

[Bug 1879776] Re: ubuntu 20 error mounting smb drive

2020-05-21 Thread L Sluijter
I added "client min protocol = NT1" to /etc/samba/smb.conf and did a restart of
smbd, but still the same problem.
With a ubuntu 18 LTS I can access the same disk without problems.
Note: i did not reformat my HOME partition when fresh installing ubuntu 20 LTS.
Are there any files on HOME that could cause such problems?

Note: a newer (Beta) version of the Fritzbox software will add SMB2/3 support,
but that is not yet running on my production Fritzbox. During testing I had
client min protocol = SMB2 and client max protocol = SMB3, but it failed the
same.

2020-05-21 Thread L Sluijter
~/.smb/smb.conf is present, last change date dec 2015.

I installed the smbclient package, and indeed could get to the disk with
smbclient //192.168.178.253/fb7490a without an errormessage. At least ls
and cd are working. (I have no knowledge of smbclient (yet) so it did
not access the data yet.)

[Bug 1879776] Re: ubuntu 20 error mounting smb drive

2020-05-21 Thread L Sluijter
After adding 'client min protocol = NT1' to ~/.smb/smb.conf I could
indeed mount the disk via Nautilus, but that revealed another bug: most
files are seen as Directories instead of files (pdf, txt and so on), but
give an error when I try to open them.

I tried some more: A MOUNT with the CIFS option gives access to the disk
and I can read and write all files.

[Bug 1879776] Re: ubuntu 20 error mounting smb drive

2020-05-22 Thread L Sluijter
Indeed, files shown as directories is this bug #1872476. The fix from the PPA
works.
There the same environment as I have (FritzBox) is mentioned. Newer software
levels of FritzOs (expected this summer) will have support for smb2/3

Min protocol = NT1 solved the first problem.
I wonder, why would a CLIENT bother about the level of the SERVER? Just accept
the server as is, perhaps with some warning. Or at least give a message that
the server is "old".

Sebastien, thanks for your support.

[Bug 1723612] Re: new laptop: Lenovo Y520-15IKBM no wireless networks found

2018-08-14 Thread L Sluijter
I am interested in the Y520-15IKBM, but there is a Y720-15IKBM as well.

This is how it has been fixed by SUSE: drop the N from Y520-15IKBN so it
becomes Y520-15IKB

Any outlook when this will be fixed for Ubuntu? I see it is still not there in
linux 4.18.
Suse LEAP 15 fixed this within 6 weeks after I reported it to Suse.

There is an Y720 as well. Perhaps Lenovo could give you a complete list of
the new September models.
