[Bug 1092839] [NEW] After the kernel update, I am not able to login through lightdm only in console
Public bug reported: Yesterday, I have updated some packages including the usual kernel update as well. After the request on restart, I was not able to login, the lightdm accepted the the password and suddenly dropped back to the logon screen. I tought that is the usual bug, and tried to remove lightdm and add gdm, but has a same effect: it accept my password starts to move on and suddenly drop me back to the logon screen again. I have switched back to lightdm and configure it by the "sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm" command. I have entered to the system through ALT+CTRL+F1 console and firstly traied to change the ownership of .Xauthority with chmod to my user. Login failed again. Then I tried to remove .Xauthority and login, without success again. Some of the workaround suggested to remove the custom wallpaper too. I did without success. I have no any idea further just started to be annoyed. :-( What else could it be? I want to access my computer and use the graphical surface and not only the console. It has been caused by the xorg update. I have an Radeon HD 6900M card for which the new xorg and AMD driver is a bad combination yet. [Bug 928414] [NEW] [HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH, playback] Playback problem - 5.1 sound can not be gained
Public bug reported: After the usual modification of daemon.conf (adjusting "channels = 6" and right channel-map order), 5.1 sound can not be gained through on jacks. This is an Alienware MX17R3. Contra-check: There is no any problem under Win7 after dualboot. Alsa-base.conf: detection was generic intel, which were modified to "type = alienware" and connected Intel HDA settings, but Analog Output 5.1 setting does not appear neither in the sound menu nor in alsamixer, only digital outputs and SPDIFs. Only Analog stereo appears, which works as usual. Jacks are correctly connected (Alienware manual and experience). Built-in Microfon also works as usual. Issue: how to get 5.1 sound through jacks as analog output? This is a fresh install from scratch (11.10 default Unity). [Bug 710133] Re: Alsa does not recognize Realtek ACL1200 5.1 sound
As I have mentioned, this is an MSI GX 720 laptop. By default it is equipped with 4.1 internal sound speakers. There are four jacks at the right side. I think, by reading the manual, that is the default setup and the 4 jacks can be used for 5.1 and 7.1 sound as well. The windows driver automatically detects if something is plugged to the jacks and based on the order it start to use it. The manual gives the following order (from left to right order): 1 - green jack plug - FR/FL 2 - empty - N/A 3 - black jack plug - RR/RL 4 - yellow jack plug - SUB/CEN It is OK, that did not use 5.1 by default, but why the 4.1 is not detected? Big question. I might need to update the BIOS to get it. (I would hate to do that.) By the way, it was correctly detected before 9.10. Since that, I always had a problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/710133 Title: Alsa does not recognize Realtek ACL1200 5.1 sound -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
