[Bug 226812] [NEW] dosemu won't launch from icon

2008-05-05 Thread Keith Hayward
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: dosemu

Dosemu enables old MSDOS software to be used from within Ubuntu. When I
upgraded to Hardy Heron, Dosemu ceased to launch from the Applications
Menu (System Tools), or from a desktop icon - just nothing happens when
I click on the icon. I have to launch it from the command line which
is tedious. Uninstalling and re-installing Dosemu (from All Available
Applications) doesn't solve the problem. I got this problem both with
an upgrade from Gutsy to Hardy, and a clean install of Hardy. It worked
ok with Gutsy but not with Hardy. I have had this problem with some
earlier versions of Ubuntu. In fact, I've only been able to install
Dosemu once (in Gutsy), where I got a menu and desktop icon that would
launch the program.

[Bug 472481] [NEW] Can't make a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10 on this computer

2009-11-03 Thread Keith Hayward
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

I started with a new blank Hard Disk WD 500GB. All was ok until I get
to the end. I rebooted the new system ok, but the graphics were poor
because the Nvidia driver needed installing (my motherboard has built-in
Nvidia graphics). I installed the Nvidia driver (recommended version)
from System>Admin. The screen then went blank. A small window
appeared in the blank screen which stated OUT OF RANGE. 81.1 KHz / 65
Hz. I was then in a catch 22 position: I couldn't get into the system
to change the settings to be suitable for the limitations of my display.
I tried the whole installation again, with the same result. My
solution was to start again and install Ubuntu 9.04. So at present I do
not have Ubuntu 9.10 on this computer, though presumably I could now
upgrade to Ubuntu 9.10. My display is LG Flatron W2242S.

On my other computer, which also has on-board Nvidia graphics, but has a
Fujitsu display, I did an upgrade rather than a clean install, and that
worked ok.

[Bug 1210849] [NEW] grub install failed

2013-08-10 Thread Keith Hayward
Public bug reported:

Installing fresh on an Alienware Area-51 m9700.
Had a crash and reboot loop during booting into the installer (12.04 LTS) that
I got around by useing nouveu.modeset=0. Managed to continued through install
until the grub-install runs.

Using all default partition install settings I don't seem to have an sda
and grub throws an error, refuses to install, and causes the whole
install to fail.
