[Bug 648618] Re: evolution (e-calendar-factory) memory leak

2011-07-29 Thread Keith David Tyler
FWIW I did not have this problem prior to fresh-installing Natty x64.

My previous install started as a Lucid i686 UNE install (with the
netbook meta-package removed). I upgraded to Maverick, and then Natty
using Software Update tool.

When Gnome Classic session became too unstable, I trashed /usr, /, and
/var partitions, and installed Natty fresh from LiveCD. This time I used
x64 instead of i686 as I discovered my box was 64-bit.

I don't know if it was the fresh install, or the switch to a 64-bit
version, that led to the issue. But I recently found my computer lagging
heavily, memory pegged, CPU pegged, tons of it IOWAIT. System Monitor
showed e-calendar-factory as using 1.7 GiB of memory! Nuking it brought
it back to normal -- but it restarts automatically, so this is
inevitable.

BTW I do have a Google Calendar hooked into Evolution Calendar. But I
did before, too.

[Bug 791511] [NEW] Can't move windows completely off primary monitor after login

2011-06-01 Thread Keith David Tyler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

A strange thing happens to me in Gnome session after upgrading Maverick
to Natty.

After GDM login, I can't move windows completely off the first (left)
screen. They will only move so far such that about 100 px are still on
the left, then no further.

I can drag the bottom-left handle out to extend that side, but if I then
try to shrink to the second monitor's bounds using the bottom left
handle, the window immediately resizes to fullwidth (offset by those
100px or so), and continued dragging inwards of the lower left handle
causes the window to shrink, *but keep the same left edge*. So by
dragging the bottom left handle, it's the right side that moves left!

Maximizing a window centered on the right monitor maximizes it so that
it is partially on the left screen, with the far right of the right
monitor uncovered. Windows on left monitor maximize and moves fine.

Now the really weird thing. The only way I have found to workaround this
issue is to go into Monitors control panel -- and *change one of the
monitor's refresh rates.* I don't even know why this works. I can then
change it right back to where it was, in fact, it doesn't seem to matter
what I change it to or from, and the workaround stays.

[Bug 448109] Re: Cannot add to panel

2010-10-28 Thread Keith David Tyler
> Something, like read comments which explains why there is the
technical difficulty about that change?

You have not explained *why* there is a technical difficulty. The URL
you give does not explain it either. It just says "this is the way it
is" but it does not say *why*.

I would appreciate something that explained *why*. Because being unable
to alter the panel applets is *maddening*. Converting the gnome session
to look like a UNR session is a bad solution. It involves a lot of work
that should not be necessary just to add or remove one applet to the
panel.

It should be possible to unlock these settings. Maybe in gconf-editor?
Maybe there is a file whose permissions can be changed? I don't care if
the UNR settings break the GNOME settings.

It is a bad day when open source software developers force decisions on
users. Open source means giving you freedom over your computer and its
software. But this is a decision to take freedom away.
