Just thought I'd note it's also a dependency of wine (perhaps once or
twice removed). Quite annoying.

[Bug 294527] Re: Conflict between nvidia-glx and openafs-modules kernel module

2009-02-25 Thread Karl M. Davis
This issue was diagnosed on the openafs thread I posted earlier. Looks like
it's a kernel memory issue that crops up on some systems (my old desktop, for
one) when the openafs client cache options in /etc/openafs/afs.conf are set as
follows:
OPTIONS="-chunksize 20 -memcache -blocks 65536"

Reverting the cache settings back to the default resolves the problem:
OPTIONS=AUTOMATIC

Unfortunately, I won't be able to verify this bug against the new Jaunty
package anytime soon as I've since replaced my old NVIDIA desktop with
an ATI one. I would go ahead and close this bug but it would probably
be helpful to others googling for help with similar symptoms if it was
archived (I'm not sure what the Launchpad archival policy is for closed
bugs).

[Bug 294527] [NEW] Conflict between nvidia-glx and openafs-modules kernel module

2008-11-05 Thread Karl M. Davis
Public bug reported:

I just performed a clean install on my system of Ibex the other night.
I'd been having some random crashes with Hardy and it was originally a
Feisty install so I figured it was time to start from scratch. First
thing I got setup was the nvidia-glx-177 goodness, because I like shiny
things. I got that working and configured correctly for my dual-monitor
setup, using TwinView.

After doing that, I installed the openafs client and its associated
kernel modules (built via module-assistant from openafs-modules-source).
I store most of my home folder on an AFS server here at home. After
installing the modules package, I rebooted. For some reason, X broke
and went into failsafe mode, for no apparent reason.

It seems that there's a conflict between the nvidia driver and the
openafs kernel modules. I know that sounds screwy as hell, and it is.
I actually didn't even catch the connection until I gave up on getting
it working and did another clean install today. This time, I went
through everything a lot slower and sure enough, as soon as I installed
the openafs-modules package, X started breaking. Uninstalled it,
rebooted, and now X is starting up again just fine.

I'll go ahead and install it again and post back to this bug with the
Xorg.0.log file from when it's crashing.

Unfortunately, my BIOS does not have any such "Plug and Play OS"

I'd like, I could go through and manually assign IRQs to each of the
them.

I tried the following kernel parameter combinations with no success:
1. pci=noacpi

3. noapic acpi=off

[Bug 257153] [NEW] "TLS: peer cert untrusted or revoked (0x82)" error in Hardy's version of ldap-utils

2008-08-11 Thread Karl M. Davis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ldap-utils

When trying to run ldapsearch against my local LDAP server, I receive the
following error (simplified):
TLS: peer cert untrusted or revoked (0x82)
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Can't contact LDAP server (-1)

However, if I try the same operation from a 6.06 box I've got, it works fine.
Here's the command:
ldapsearch -H ldaps://mydomain.name -d 99

Here's the only option I've got set in /etc/ldap/ldap.conf:
TLS_CACERT /etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt

Please note that connecting via openssl to the same LDAP server seems to work
just fine (even from the Hardy box):
openssl s_client -connect mydomain.name:636 -showcerts -CAfile
/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt

>From what I've read, I'm guessing this has something to do with the
switch to gnutls in Hardy. If it makes any difference, my SSL
certificate is one of the cheap ones from GoDaddy (pain in the ass to
get working, by the way).

I've attached the standard and debug output from the ldapsearch command. If I
specify the following option in my /etc/ldap/ldap.conf file, I can connect just
fine:
TLS_REQCERTallow

My Hardy 8.04.1 box has ldap-utils v2.4.9-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 installed,
along with libgnutls v2.0.4-1ubuntu2.1. Please let me know if you need
any further information.

[Bug 1389919] [NEW] Anonymous authentication does not work with mount.cifs

2014-11-05 Thread Karl M. Davis
Public bug reported:

I have an anonymous-access share on a Windows 2012 server that I'm
trying to mount from Ubuntu 14.04. I can access the share via smbclient
as expected:

$ smbclient -N //foo.example.com/MyShare
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[LAB9320] OS=[Windows Server 2012 Standard 9200] Server=[Windows Server
2012 Standard 6.2]
smb: \> ls
  . D0 Wed Nov 5 11:46:22 2014

  testD0 Wed Nov 5 01:58:42 2014

5 blocks of size 4194304. 41916 blocks available

However, I can't get the share to mount at all via mount.cifs:

$ sudo mount.cifs //foo.example.com/MyShare /mnt/test -o
file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,uid=500,gid=124,noperm,guest,sec=none

mount error(13): Permission denied
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

For reference, I've modified the following settings in secpol.msc >
Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options on the Windows
server to enable anonymous access to the share:

1. Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and
shares: Disabled
2. Network access: Let everyone permissions apply to anonymous users: Enabled
3. Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and shares: Disabled
4. Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously: MyShare

In addition, I've given the following local SIDs "Full Control" of the
share and the folder itself: Everyone, Guest, and ANONYMOUS LOGON.
Please note that the Guest account is NOT enabled on this system, for
security purposes (I don't want guest auth, I want anonymous auth).

[Bug 1114107] [NEW] No way to customize built-in dnsmasq configuration in 12.04

2013-02-02 Thread Karl M. Davis
Public bug reported:

The integration of Dnsmasq into NetworkManager is, overall, very
convenient: it makes dealing with _some_ VPN connections on Ubuntu much
easier.

However, there are still a number of VPN connections that NetworkManager
doesn't support, or doesn't support fully (e.g. a number of OpenVPN
configuration options). In these cases, it's necessary to configure the
VPN connections the old-fashioned way: on the command line. There's also
the issue that nm-applet doesn't gracefully support multiple
simultaneous VPN connections (though the Network control panel now
apparently does).

Unfortunately, there really isn't a way to gracefully handle the DNS
changes that these manual VPN connections require in 12.04's version of
Dnsmasq. It seems that 12.10's version offers
/etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d/, and also a D-Bus interface-- either of
which would likely work. Neither of these options (or any others I'm
aware of) exist for 12.04.

Right now, I find myself in the somewhat bizarre situation of
considering a switch off of the LTS 12.04 release to 12.10 just to get
support for a couple of VPN connections. Is there any chance that the
dnsmasq.d and/or D-Bus support could be backported to 12.04? Apologies
if this is the wrong forum for such a request-- couldn't think of a
better one.

FYI: Such a backport was actually first suggested by one of the
NetworkManager devs on dnsmasq-discuss [1].
