[Bug 1385458] [NEW] Switching between accounts is slow and can crush system
Public bug reported: I am on regular Ubuntu 14.10 updated from 14.04 Switching between active sessions/accounts worked well for 14.04 but now when I switch either by clicking on different account name at the top right menu or by simply pressing ctrl+alt f1-f12 it gives a 3 second black screen before switching, and sometimes it just freezes in this black screen with no switching at all and I have to restart... P.S. in this freeze num lock/caps lock indicators do not react upon pressing, but alt+prtscr+b reboots well ** Affects: consolekit (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: I am on regular Ubuntu 14.10 updated from 14.04 Switching between active sessions/accounts worked well for 14.04 but now - when i switch either by clicking on different account name at the top + when I switch either by clicking on different account name at the top right menu or by simply pressing ctrl+alt f1-f12 it gives a 3 second black screen before switching, and sometimes it just freezes in this - black screen with no switching at all and i have to restart... - + black screen with no switching at all and I have to restart... Re: [Bug 808057] Re: kernel 32-32 keyboard shortcuts mixed
Hi! Yes I had them after online upgrade but after I installed Oneiric from CD it disappeared However I must say totally ubuntu is getting worse and worse and that's very sad. Unity is not comfortable for working with multiple windows, especially when u have several windows of the same program, one of which is full screen. for example firefox downloads window was hard to use, coz firefox main window blocked it. Gnome 3 is VERY slow... and so many bugs in new totem... Crashes if u try to open two files at once, crashes if u try to turn of .srt subtitles... nautilus lost useful function of audio preview, and sushi is not comfortable and is buggy no really, programs are supposed to stay the same or get better... do u have some microsoft diversion in company? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/808057 Title: kernel 32-32 keyboard shortcuts mixed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/808057/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 808057] Re: kernel 32-32 keyboard shortcuts mixed
aham, I guess it was some update bug, coz I also had bug with flash video after update, and it also disappeared after clean reinstall... hope so... I tried using windows after 4 year linux using it was terrible :D Are all this gnome bugs gonna get fixed too? [Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session
I love, when ppl change status to fix and leave the fixing to telepaths, witches, fairies... Really? Linux for human beings? Are you serious? Linux for human beings still has no way to get normal markings for just layouts? Dear canonical, this is not low priority. This is super urgent priority. If you try to get market from other OS, you should take care of comfort more. This is fail. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045914 Title: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1045914/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session
installing xneural switcher plus topicons shell extension helps a lot however, thats not a fix, just a workaround -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045914 Title: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1045914/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session
i guess canonical doesn't care... I really think about going back to windows after so many years on linux, coz all distributions have the same issue, the idea of ubuntu was fixing THAT, not making amazon lenses -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045914 Title: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1045914/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session
Most ppl r not open source religious. I am not. I use linux not for ideas, but for comfort.I used it for many years, because it was better then windows. Now it becomes worse. Stability? Errors from the moment I log in. Comfort? Not even funny. Bugfixes faster? Not any more. BTW, I just saw that R/T zoom was removed from totem player. Not a bug, it is exactly removed. Normal good working function is just sent to fire for no rational reason. Only thing that kept me using totem, not VLC or mplayer exists no more. And wma support autoinstalls no more. Now... Why would a rational me go on with linux, if every good thing on it is geting destroyed?O_o I guess i just still hope. Well i'm gonna go back to lucid or even smth earlier... But if linux and ubuntu don't come bach to human side, then no reason to keep using it. Mandriva died in a very similar manner. 2009 version was full of new stuff and totally useless.
I mostly like gnome shell. The error problem started after 12.04 and are ubuntu problems, not gnome problems. http://howtoubuntu.org/how-to-disable-apport-error-reporting-in-ubuntu/ Gnome shell has normal keyboard on fedora, so any distmaker must a bit polish components of his system, that is just normal. I honestly don't see any serious bugs in gnome shell now and I actually like it's concept. I mean the style of minimalism + panel and windows on corner touch is pretty good and comfortable for me... Unity in comparison is not. Even without bugs its idea of side panel is so tasteless, so ugly, so old. And absolutely no comfort. If i open two windows of firefox in gnome shell I have no problem switching between them. In unity I need mumbo jumbo, coz it has no comfortable mechanism to switch just in one move. Plus its side panel appearance mechanism makes someone wish to hit his PC with something heavy. It has uncomfortable sensitivity settings. It appears when not needed, and it doesn't appear when needed. It appears when mouse touches it accidentally, but gets stupid, when I actually want it! So... Really I don't get what are ppl in canonical doing? Are they from other planets? They don't test stuff they make? They personally use mac and windows, not their system? Because any human being without brain-processor telepathic interface could understand, that there is Zero level of comfort in Unity. Unity is terrible even after windows vista, which is terrible in comparison with ANYthing linux. Even KDE 4.0 was better! R/T zoom allows to change video size gradually. Not like 50%-100%-200% like in most players, but 100%-110%-120%. It exists no more. Like it was a terrible evil and needed to be removed... It feels like Microsoft pays this guys to destroy a good OS... Last versions of ubuntu had automatic intallation of packages for media. Now I installed addons manually, but hey! If i didn't use ubuntu for 3 years, I would not know that, so for a new user it is a new problem. I am a bit careful with anything mandriva yet... Plus, as i said, I like gnome shell :D -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045914 Title: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1045914/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1045914] Re: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session
> OK, hope that my comments on GNOME didn't offend you. Of course, no >Are you aware of the fact that vanilla GNOME 3.6 enforce global keyboard >layout? >Do you care about it? OMG.. I just noticed... That is totally crazy... Why?O_O >But Apps are removing features. Yep. That is bad. >Do you like vanilla Nautilus 3.6? Did't use it for long, just for 1 day... What's lost? >Probably also the Totem issue you feel strong about. Yep, fortunately smplayer has that function too. I like the concept of gnome shell, the new design, the idea. But not the way some crazy people destroy it. I mean if they just let the gnome shell be what it is now with just fixing bugs, not removing functions and making crazy changes-it is good >Alt+` >Hold "Super" key to show shortcut cheat sheet overlay. That it discomfort. I prefer doing it just with mouse, because I, and lts of people like me, have bad eyes and my laptop is usually a bit far from me, because eyeglasses make me tired. So i must reach laptop each time i switch screens or do it long way. Usually desktop environment gives priority of comfort to mouse, and keyboard shortcuts are just helping. Thats why it's not improved terminal, its desktop. >You set it to auto-hide mode? Yep. I know, there is a way to change sensitivity of how "far" I must push the mouse. But i.most ppl don't. Not for human beings ii.I tackled sensitivity whole day. No real profit. There is just something buggy in the mechanism, like it reacts with random sensitivity... >Have you used Unity Lens? Well... Improved search. A stuff people use not often. Well, I don't. I know where are my files :) Amazon is not such a problem for me. It can be disabled, plus... Well we have webcameras in the streets, satellites, analisers that monitor our calls and report if you say something like "terrorism kill bomb". amazon doesn't bother me :))) http://dougneubauer.com/mhcctest/ testfile:) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1045914 Title: Keyboard layout doesn't show in GNOME Shell session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1045914/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 808057] [NEW] kernel 32-32 keyboard shortcuts mixed
Public bug reported: ctr+alt+f1(f2-f7) button shortcut can be triggered without pressing ctr so if u wish to close a window by alt f4 combination, it will take you to tty4 instead... P.S. reporting an ubuntu bug to launchpad became really annoying task, because at ubuntu.com I got a link to launchpad, not to it's ubuntu section, then I pressed report bug and i got to wiki page with instructions, instead of getting bug report form. if I came here to report a bug, it means I am not an average user, who just wastes your time.
