[Bug 208924] Re: "offline mode" integrates too tightly with NetworkManager

2008-09-19 Thread jonno
Y'all are talking about having to tell Firefox Ubuntu to work online
every time you re-launch the program or refresh the page, right? It
doesn't detect that the computer is on line? This does seem to be a
problem in the Ubuntu network manager program; the same thing happens
with Evolution email. The techs at my ISP say it only happens with
dialup? And it doesn't happen with the (year old?) version of Firefox on
my Mac.

I have never used the work online/work off line feature on the Mac. To
me it seems a completely unnecessary feature that makes it difficult to
use both my web browser and email. But if it messes up in both Firefox
and Evolution, isn't the fix in Ubuntu?

Please fix it.

[Bug 133486] Wireless dies and requires total shutdown rt2x00 usb

2007-08-19 Thread Jonno
Public bug reported:

The internal wireless card on the usb bus of my laptop fails
intermittently. It uses a Ralink RT73 chipset and makes use of the
rt2x00 module including rt73usb and rt2x00lib.

When it dies (seems to do so more when transferring on the local network
at full speed), I can't unload the modules with sudo modprobe -r, and
even when Network Manager stops attempting connection I have to
physically shut down before it will work again (if I've tried to unload
the module I have to use the power button). A restart alone won't work.

>From syslog:

Aug 16 01:54:22 charlie kernel: [ 1084.332000] phy0 ->
rt2x00usb_vendor_request: Error - Vendor Request 0x07 failed for offset

and:

Aug 16 01:54:23 charlie kernel: [ 1085.232000] phy0 -> rt73usb_rf_write:

amongst other things.

[Bug 139501] Re: firefox-granparadiso menus/tooltips trigger Compiz glide animation

2007-09-18 Thread Jonno
Same problem with OpenOffice tooltips, Compiz assigns them the "normal"
behaviour when it should be assigning "tooltip". Seriously irritating.

[Bug 141031] ondemand cpu governor only works with ehci__hcd removed Turion X2

2007-09-19 Thread Jonno
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: powernowd

The ondemand governor previously worked flawlessly with single core
Sempron, after upgrade to dual core Turion the governor persistently ran
cores at full speed with no load. Removing the ehci_hcd module
immediately allows the ondemand governor to work as expected.

[Bug 133486] Re: Wireless dies and requires total shutdown rt2x00 usb

2007-09-19 Thread Jonno
I'm now using the legacy RT73 driver from Serialmonkey as even with the
CVS version of rt73usb + rt2x00 there are problems. So this isn't so
much a bug as an alpha/beta module in the Gutsy kernel.

[Bug 146728] Re: [Gutsy Beta] Dots on 16bit Video i810

2007-11-29 Thread Jonno
Never posted in one of these bug trackers so let me know if I can provide
better info. I have the same problem with the grid of dots.
This is my video: "Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset
Integrated Graphics Device" and it uses the i810 driver. I don't have
Beryll/Compiz/DesktopEffects installed.
Changing the video overlay to not use Xv got rid of the dots with every movie
player. However I found that the new Skype beta with video support required the
Xv overlay so I was again stuck with dots.
I saw this thread and changed the video depth from 16 to 24 bits & voila it
worked! Does seem to have slowed things down a bit though.
So I'd say this problem is a i810/Xv/16bit conflict.
Hope that helps,

Re: [Bug 146728] Re: Dots on 16bit Video [82865G Integrated Graphics]

2007-11-30 Thread Jonno
I also got the dots with the Intel driver at 16 bits. Same exact
performance as the i810 driver.
