[Bug 147623] Re: [EM64T + nvidia 8xxx]When booting, screen stays black.
My situation fits in with the second description Fabio Papa gives above: "But 64 bits Ubuntu, which we are discussing here, has a completely different matter. Still a black screen, but boot time is normal." I am running AMD64 Gutsy (clean install) with an nvidia 8600GT. Booting time is normal (very short, in fact), but I do not get a splash screen after the kernel starts loading. The monitor simply goes into power saving mode until the login screen shows. None of the 'solutions' I have found on the web have solved the problem (e.g. loading the kernel with vga=) etc. -- these seem to be solutions to an unrelated problem, as Fabio suggests. -- [EM64T + nvidia 8xxx]When booting, screen stays black. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 147623] Re: [EM64T + nvidia 8xxx]When booting, screen stays black.
I should mention one thing that may help someone solve this problem: After implementing the suggestions on the web, for example setting vga=795 in /boot/grub/menu.lst and updating the resolution in usplash.conf (and doing the associated rebuild), I see one change: when I shut down the computer, no longer do I see just a blank screen immediately (even before the computer has switched off), but now I see a screen with lots of random coloured 'noise' (lots of colours filling the entire screen). -- [EM64T + nvidia 8xxx]When booting, screen stays black. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/147623 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1308105] Re: Xfce resets TV mode to NULL when power cycled
Hey guys - a little help for a relative Ubuntu n00b? I'm *not* running Mythbuntu - I'm running standard Ubuntu Desktop 14.04. I don't have xfce4-settings installed, but I am seeing very similar behaviour to that described in this bug report. I have a DisplayPort monitor attached. If I switch it off and switch it on again (or switch it to a different input and back again), Ubuntu doesn't detect the monitor and it says black. I have to reboot the box to get the display back. (There may be a way of getting it back using ssh but I haven't been able to do that yet). If I change the monitor cable from DisplayPort to DVI this does not happen. I'm using a GTX660 with an HP LP2475w. My behaviour looks like the same bug, but changing xfce4-settings won't help as I don't have it installed! Can anyone verify this behaviour, and if verified, add the appropriate data in the "Affects" field? [Bug 595265] Re: Can not add Facebook account as add button not displayed after authorisation.
Hi Guys, Just to let you know I tried a myriad of workarounds mentioned above - but this FINALLY got it working. 1. Check that you're running Gwibber 2.30.2 (start gwibber, go into Help > About) 2. Run "firefox ~/.local/share/desktop-couch/couchdb.html" (no quotes). This will take you to Gwibber's settings. 3. Click on gwibber_accounts 4. Click on each key, and check that the protocol is not "facebook". If it is, click the 'Delete document...' link and remove it. 5. Repeat Step 4 unitl there are definitely no facebook keys. 6. Close Gwibber 7. Logon to Facebook and remove Gwibber from your apps list (comment #106 above) 8. Open Gwibber and try to add your account. Tick the box to always allow gwibber to log you in and allow the Gwibber app access to your account. 9. Pray that the Add and Cancel buttons appear (very important at this point) 10. If it does, click add and do a merry jig. Good luck! Just to add, that this was incredibly painful to work out - so thanks to everyone above. [Bug 1166529] Re: Creative Recon3d & Sound Blaster Z (CA0132), No Sound At All; Broken Beyond All Repair
I also have the Recon3D card with CA0132. I'm running linux mint 16 from a clean install. Sound will work on every other boot with the "sound fix=1" added. This also applies to windows 7. I use the program Pithos( a web client based player) for Pandora to record audio off the player through a program called Audio Recorder. I set the recorder to record audio from stereo out. I set the recorder to start recording when it sensed audio from Stereo out. It did record audio even when the nothing was being outputed from the speakers. I rebooted the system and checked the file it had recorded and it played perfectly like the speakers were working. I also noticed in mt Dmesg file in /var/log that sometimes it said that ca0132 didn't load or never even said anything about this card. Next boot "Dsp CA0132 loaded".
