[Bug 305828] Re: Who changed the system sounds in 8.10 to .ogg format, when the system will only accept .wav?
The problem involved having TWO sound cards, one on the motherboard and a PCI. Although the PCI card was set as default, apparently system sounds were designed to default to the motherboard card if available. the conflict between the cards was, apparently, shutting down both. I discovered the solution to the problem in the answer to another question, where it was suggested blacklisting the motherboard card was the only way to shut it down completely. I did that, with immediate favourable results! I apologise for not posting the solution. I realize it could be of help to others! -- Who changed the system sounds in 8.10 to .ogg format, when the system will only accept .wav? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305828 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67905] Thunderbird New Card panel has no Cancel or OK buttons
Public bug reported: In Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 installed in Ubuntu 6.06 the New Card panel brought up by the New Card buttons has no Cancel or OK buttons at the bottom, making it impossible to make any additions to any Thunderbird Address Book. Existing Cards DO have Cancel and OK buttons, but those cards are the result of an import via floppy from an earlier version of Thunderbird running in Windows XP. Is this a bug, either in Thunderbird or Ubuntu, or a bug only in Ubuntu's version of Thunderbird? Or something else? New info: I have discovered a thin red horizontal line in the New Card panel, just above the GUI bottom panel. If I'm very careful with the cursor, this red line appears and functions as the OK button. Not fun, but gets me out of the bind! I'd still like to see that OK button. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Thunderbird New Card panel has no Cancel or OK buttons https://launchpad.net/bugs/67905 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 821832] Re: indicator-weather disappears from panel randomly
This report is now moot. My computer now has 2 systems - Ubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 11.10, on different drives. Indicator-weather still disappears regularly from 11.04, but is steady in 11.10. We'll probably never know what small quirk in my version of 11.04 caused the problem, but 11.04 will be my backup until 12.04 is available. I'll then be updating it through 11.10 to 12.04, so I can check it in those systems to see if the disappearance problem persists. I'm still curious! Thank you for sticking with me during this investigation - it's been an educational experience! I still have the affected system and will have for at least the next 6 months, so I'm willing to do whatever I can to solve the problem. I had been thinking I would re-install the affected system to see if that solved the problem (I didn't do that when it was my daily working setup) but now I've switched over to 11.10 on the other drive, so we can keep the problem system and do as we please! -- ** Attachment added: "Aaa esign.gif" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821832/+attachment/2568959/+files/Aaa%20esign.gif -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821832 Title: indicator-weather disappears from panel randomly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/weather-indicator/+bug/821832/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 821832] Re: indicator-weather disappears from panel randomly
As promised, both my main rig and netbook were up continuously from Dec 25 through Jan 1. The main rig (wired) and the netbook (while wired) both had 'indicator-weather' crashs the morning of the 26th. (crash reports coming). Since the 26th the main rig (amd 64) has had numerous 'indicator-weather' disappearances, while the netbook (i386) has had none, either wired or wireless. Finally caught one of the main rig disappearances on Jan 1 (crash report also coming, for whatever it's worth). I have noted other problems in the 64-bit setup which do not occur in the 32-bit setup, (unexplained freezes, unresponsive icons) so I can only conclude it isn't really an 'indicator-weather' problem, but a system quirk. Then again, what does a noob like me know? I'm glad I haven't recommended Ubuntu amd64 to any of my friends! [Bug 821832] Re: indicator-weather disappears from panel randomly
June 1, 2013, Ubuntu 13.04. I have set up apport to notify every time Weather Indicator crashes - and it still does, sometimes more than once a day. With Doug's workaround, it re-starts immediately, so the only problem now is the nuisance of having to check the crash report to verify it's Weather Indicator again. Maybe, someday, Weather Indicator will be re-built and work as intended! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821832 Title: indicator-weather disappears from panel randomly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/weather-indicator/+bug/821832/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 821832] Re: indicator-weather disappears from panel randomly
I spoke too soon. After a week of solidarity, indicator-weather has started shutting down unexpectedly in Ubuntu 11.10. I activated apport and, although it did not give me a reporting window, it gave me a crash report in /var/crash.
