Re: [Bug 49740] Re: Windows disappear from desktop, but continue to run
As mentioned earlier, the bug was painful enough I had to resort to using KDE instead. If there's reason to believe that it may now be resolved, I certainly could give it a try again. I just made a significant discovery on this bug. If I add a new panel and populate it, this new panel works correctly! The old panels still fail as reported and can still be revived via the killall. [Bug 68108] saslauthd forces directory permissions that prevent postfix access
Public bug reported: When saslauthd is started, it will forcefully reset the permissions of the directory that contains the socket to which postfix must open: Starting SASL Authentication Daemon: mode of `/var/run/saslauthd' changed to 0710 (rwx--x---) Given that the ownership of this directory belongs to the root user and the sasl group, there is no reasonable way for postfix to access this. However, this only represents a temporary fix because as soon as saslauthd is restarted, the directory will be forced back to 0710. [Bug 105265] GNOME Save As dialog continuously resizes itself
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome Using a fully updated 7.04 beta, if I cause a GNOME (maybe GTK) Save As dialog to open, the resultant Save As dialog window that opens seems to continuously resize itself. The window is anchored at the same position the entire time, but the right edge goes back and forth between two positions endlessly. These two positions are about 10 pixels apart and the height remains constant. If I manage to resize the window (hard) or reposition it (easy), the cycling stops and the window behaves normally. If the Save As window is closed and a new one is opened, the process starts all over. I have seen the behavior on several different feisty beta installs so I don't believe this is an isolated case. I can consistently reproduce this with firefox, thunderbird, and gvim. I suspect any app using some common library is affected. I'm not sure if this is GTK or GNOME. My two screens were both 1600x1200. I never tried using sawfish-client as I'm unfamiliar with its use. I hadn't realized until this change that kwin offers nearly all of the features that I had grown dependent upon with sawfish. The above report was under Dapper. The problem still exists in Edgy and in fact seems worse. The gnome-panel still seems to be affected the most often, however the old work around of killing gnome-panel (so that it could restart and be visible) tends to make nearly all other windows disappear. Like before, the windows that disappear still have their process running, but there is no way to make the window visible. Affected windows disappear from the desktop and the window list applet. [Bug 46856] Re: Panel items no longer available message won't away
Issue is gone. Don't recall exactly what I did to make it go away, but I believe it involved mv'ing the old home directory aside and then selectively pulling things back into a fresh one. -- Panel items no longer available message won't away https://launchpad.net/bugs/46856 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 49740] Windows disappear from desktop, but continue to run
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: sawfish Regularly throughout the day, I experience windows disappearing from the desktop. The problem seems to only occur when I'm opening a new window or changing workspaces. It seems that Xinerama is also necessary for this bug to manifest. Most often it is the gnome-panel that gets affected. I actually have 3 gnome-panels normally, and it always seems to be the same one of the three that is affected. Note that although the affected applications disappear from the desktop and gnome window selector, the applications continue to run (i.e., they are visible via 'ps'). $ COLUMNS=120 dpkg -l sawfish gnome-panel libxinerama1 Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold | Status=Not/Installed/Config-files/Unpacked/Failed-config/Half-installed |/ Err?=(none)/Hold/Reinst-required/X=both-problems (Status,Err: uppercase=bad) ||/ Name Version Description +++--- ii gnome-panel 2.14.1-0ubuntu16 launcher and docking facility for GNOME 2 ii libxinerama1 1.0.1-0ubuntu2 X11 Xinerama extension library ii sawfish 1.3+cvs20050709-6a window manager for X11 ** Affects: sawfish (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- Windows disappear from desktop, but continue to run https://launchpad.net/bugs/49740 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
